    Draymond was on point in his podcast with PG13. Wemby will struggle on the physicality of the NBA and it will show on his Offense early up until he gains more strength, a bit more bulk and let the game come to him. But defensively, this kid will have a tremendous impact from day 1. They also noted that Wemby is just 19 and is in the perfect team that will be patient on his development.

    • @ntnnot
      @ntnnot Рік тому +11

      If you look at Giannis as a rookie and now, if Wemby can have a similar development he'd become a monster in the paint. But a smooth jumper instead of bulking up would be equally good. No one could guard him at the apex with his size. Basically a different trajectory compared to the Giannis one... sth like KD who has never become a massively muscular dude. Well, let's see how this story unfolds...

      If you're reffering to this game, PG was wrong. Wembanyama didn't have any trouble with the physicality, but he had trouble making shots he regularly makes. PG made a point about Wemby not being able to dribble the ball like he's in Harlem, but in reality Wemby's handles were on point most of the time this game. Also this one game is small sample size. Maybe it's his bad day, maybe not and he's a bust lol

      @aha3885 Рік тому +5

      @@spbusei1029this guy wasn't near to play in Euroleague. He played in a third level league, and he couldn't even win it. Luka Doncic came to NBA after won the Euroleague, beeing the MVP, and the best league in Europe, ACB. This one, three times. With another MVP in his pocket. And the Eurobasket with Slovenia, he won it too. Before his 20th birthday.
      By the way, after all his achievements in Europe, beeing a teenager, Luka was 3th pick in the draft😅. Wemba has the greatest hype in NBA history, by far. Is he a bust? We don't know. But for sure, he isn't the greatest player that Europe has ever seen at his age, or the greatest prospect. Not even close.

  • @nofuture_at_all
    @nofuture_at_all Рік тому +34

    The first player that came to my mind after seeing him struggling in posting up smaller players was Porzingis. Porzingis uses his height advantage by shooting over smaller players in the post and midrange and he's also a good shooter. Wemby will struggle in offense at first. He's more of a perimeter player right now but he's not a shooter and it's hard to dribble without getting the ball stolen with that height. His feel for the game and rim protection will be an impact immediately.

      Plus his finishing and driving to the rim needs work. But that and his shot has plenty of time to improve, and I think it will. I also think he needs to tighten his handle, and he needs more strength, conditioning and mobility work. If he wants to make it in this league, he needs, and I mean NEEDS to put on meaningful weight. He needs to strengthen his muscles, and make sure his muscles and joints are flexible and can withstand a beating. Because this league, despite a lot of old head protest, is very physical. A hell of a lot more physical and athletic and skilled than he's used to. But he's gonna work it out. Give him time.

  • @classthoreau3541
    @classthoreau3541 Рік тому +4

    Good and bad here, but the good is great and the bad is mostly fixable (just up to him and the coaching staff). 5 blocks in 27 minutes without knowing the defensive scheme is impressive, even in summer league. That's going to be his bread & butter, and will likely lead him to the conclusion that he needs a stronger base so he can be the diverse defender his length and timing portend he could be. Love that he's decided to come in as a playmaker--could really tell he was focused on that. The even better news in that regard is how smooth those passes were and how quickly he was able to read situations in a fairly loose game. Popovich & co. helped Tim Duncan out a lot back in the early years when he was struggling with double teams by having a rigid system around him so he could pass to spots rather than scanning amidst chaos. Wembanyama is clearly going to be a more dynamic passer who doesn't need that, but some structure will allow this part of his game to flourish even more (as well as playing with more talented players).
    The bad I saw wasn't the FG% necessarily, but individual facets of those misses. First, I don't buy it at all when announcers, podcasters, & pundits say "he's so comfortable." The guy looked visibly nervous to me, which is an issue that could clear up by the game on Sunday. More noteworthy, but still fixable, is that he doesn't have consistent form when shooting. Surprisingly, the problem isn't what his arms or hands are doing in the motion, but his body. He leans a little one way on a shot then a little the other way on the next. You can really see it in the videos of him in unstructured shootarounds. He looks like any one of us kind of meh-ing the ball at the rim while we wait for our friends to show for a pick-up game. Great shooters tout consistency as the key, and so-called shot-makers, who aren't the best shooters necessarily (like Kobe), still had next level body control. You lean because that's what is given to you or because that's part of the move you're doing. Leaning just a touch for no reason doesn't help anything, and with his size is unnecessary most of the time. This is an easy thing to coach, but it will have to be a focus; if he is a below average jumpshooter, then the league will just fall back and his impressive handle on the outside will be a feature of style rather than utility. The only thing that really concerned me was the misses at the rim. Twice he got past people only to not be able to finish a dunk or layup. Maybe that's strength, maybe it's conditioning, maybe it's nerves. I don't know, and highlight reels show him doing what you'd expect him to be able to do around the rim, but this is the one thing that felt like a bit of a mystery to me.
    The Spurs staff must be so excited to go to work everyday--Wembanyama is a unique prospect, and figuring out how to help someone of his size and skillset develop must be a lot of fun for people who spend all day thinking about basketball anyway.

It showcases how truly valuable he is; opening lanes by calling for the ball, being the focus on offense and defense and knowing that he is there to be a superstar… I think some of the tougher angles he takes will decrease and become higher percentage plays. as he draws the double teams. Comfort and chemistry will make him more patient and less hesitant. The body control and effortlessness are there. Can’t wait to see him run the offense and have double digit block games.
