I agree with the holes you drilled in the side walls, but you could save the effort of having to cut the slits in the bottom of the pit by simply placing a couple of nails in between the plates where they meet in the middle when you assemble the pit, so it leaves a small gap in between them. It'll save some structural integrity of the plates as they're only 2mm thick and already prone to warping with high temps.
Great video and yes airflow is an issue but these pits were developed to allow people to have a fire in locations that don’t allow open fires. Cutting airflow slits will definitely improve combustion but ash falling to ground will attract attention from authorities. Keep up the good vids.
Thanks mate! I was actually pleasantly surprised that hardly any ash actually falls through while it's just sitting their burning but I 100% see where your coming from. Hope you enjoy some future vids!
I did similar - 8x half inch holes 3 inches up from the bottom, then 3x half in holes in the ends. Similar mod, same results. Still smokey AF tho, but better than it was.
Yeah seems to help a bit aye, wasn't smoking too bad in the end but from the factory they're pretty terrible for smoke ahaha, hope you enjoyed the video mate 😃👍
Get a piece of perforated stainless steel sheet to make a grate a few cm above the bottom of the fire pit and it'll burn perfectly with your end holes. Probably around $10 at your local stainless steel fabrication business.
Can you just pull the sides up a bit to make a gap at the bottom to let the air in? Maybe put an aluminium tray underneath to catch the ambers that fall through?
Yeah you probably could but it would just slide back down I reckon, also it would probably not actually add any air as there would be too much ash and coals blocking that spot that's why I added them a bit higher
@@twox4x432 sweet, maybe put a stone or something in the gap to stop it sliding. And this would just be to get it pumping, once there is ash and coals it normally means your fire is underway and you could close it. Just thinking of options if you don't have an angle grinder other tools and the skill to use them. You've done an awesome job but I'd cut my foot off.
Did it weaken the steel at all after it was used ? No buckling etc ? I just bought one and don’t want to smoke out the neighbours from our camp site . Cheers
@@twox4x432 well, not really. the simplest would be to put a nail under where to pieces slide together to stop it going all the way down. only need a couple of MM. still be stable.
@@borisjohnson1944 Calm down buddy, yes 4 nails, what if you forget them. same things by the time u get a welder out could of just cut the slits and drilled the holes. I'm showing the way I did it there's no right or wrong way. you do it your way if you don't like mine!
so no one else freaked out that yu didnt clamp that down? i had visions of tha drill grabbing and spinning that plate straight through you. ..be careful

Hopefully Kings will do similar improvement for the next version. It’s weird that they didn’t think about the air flow issue.
Yeah it's weird aye, and now they've bought out the folding fire pit which I probably would have bought in the first place ahaha

Thanks, I just purchased Kings fire pit and will definitely be drilling holes cheers..
No worries mate, hope you get a good amount of enjoyment out of it!!
Great. I will follow your instructions absolutely. Thanks for idea..
No worries mate, glad you found it informative!!
Just got one for fathers day, will definitely do this mod
Beauty!! Happy fathers day mate 😃👍

That's a really good idea mate!! I might give that a crack
@@twox4x432 just make sure it's the thicker stuff to minimise warping.
I drilled some holes in the angled plates but they fill up with ash. Need to drill some higher up and on the end plates like you did 👍
Yeah seems to work well so far, get a good go in winter to fully test it out

@@d.Cog420 Yeah smart thinking mate! that probably would work as well I just wanted it easy to setup and get going straight away
Great idea mate cheers
No worries mate glad you liked it!
Well done !
Thanks mate!!

Nah not that I can tell I've used it about 3 times since I've done it and it's worked so much better
OMG BEST MOD!!
I know it works pretty good aye 😃
it made me hot and sweaty
omg ahahha
Nice one, would of done the same or similar + keep up the great vids
Thanks mate!!!
Just add something to stop the plates meeting at the bottom.
Yeah I actually reckon it would be harder to do though and it wouldn't be as stable, but each to their own

@@twox4x432 4 nails? Really? or just weld them on. Or weld the gap a bit.

Seems like airflow is definitely a problem.

Yeah I know it was a bit stupid, but I didn't have any clamps on me, so I just took it slow and was careful
they took the time to cut the kings name in lol.. but not air holes.. ?? go figure
Didnt need to cut slits all the way across just structurally weakened it.
Haven't had an issue with it mate but each to their own
I bet you tell everyone you have 8 inches
You know it 😉😂
What an embarrassment for kings
Seriously, why would you need one of these?
A lot of campsites these days require you to have your fire contained and elevated off the ground, hence the need for it 😂😂
You obviously don't mate, so why are you even watching and commenting? You're not a troll are you?
