I went from making 36k a year as a cook to 100k as a diesel mechanic. I love going to work now that I’m not stressed wondering if im going to get enough hours to cover rent or bills.

The wealthy paid their fair share after WWII upto the 70s. That taxation created massive National infrastructure. State Schools, roads/bridges, city improvements and a single minimum wage income could support a family. The national ran well economically and the people flourished relatively compared to nowadays and the difference is the constant tax cuts to the wealthy.
Minimum wage has never been enough to support a family. You’re confusing the fact that too many jobs that are now minimum wage were living wage jobs back then. Do you think a barista at Starbucks should make the same wage as a meat packer? Or a construction laborer?
I worked a full time minimum wage job in high school in the late 70’s. I barely made enough to make the payments and insurance on a 10 year old used car.

I don’t understand why more people don’t understand that investing in the middle class strengthens the economy. The economy does far better when the majority of the population has the majority of the wealth as opposed to when a tiny minority has the majority of the wealth.
