  • In order to understand what a social media transparency report might include to best support everyday users’ needs, CDT conducted a two-part, human-centered co-design research project. We conducted two sets of individual sessions with a diverse group of casual social media users (n=30) to understand what information they would like companies to share about recommendation algorithms and how that information should be shared.
As part of this study, we tested a “plug-and-play” concept in which users would be able to see the relationship between input and output. In this feature, participants were able to view how specific information about them changed the content that is recommended to them.
