No matter how old a TV is in a script, directors expect them to look brand new and work perfectly on set so actors can give their best performance.
Let's discover how retro TVs are restored and hacked to meet these unique demands of Hollywood.
We're going to meet Steve Irwin, the owner of Playback Technologies. For over 30 years has held one of the most niche jobs in Hollywood: "24 Frame Playback".
Steve is going to explain what that means and share his collection of retro tube TVs, computers and custom TV hardware.

As a videographer from the 80's and 90's, I recognize a lot of that period gear!

That's what I use my 20" BVM-A20F1M for! I also use it to watch my laserdisc movie collection.

I've never committed a crime but if anything might temp me it would be those PVMs. The 25" models. I love CRTs. I have a bunch but it's never enough!

Oh so this is the thing to look for in StarTrek Next Generation and how they made all the displays. Cause I always wondered how.

We still use those computers at work. If they need some old IBM computers, let me know.

I wonder if they have mint condition vintage microwave ovens to use as movie props. It would be cool to see a microwave from the 1970s.

The components are mostly unchanged so restoring, repairing or simply creating a replica would be quite easy.
CRT components are not in production, are near impossible to manufacture and should only be worked on by trained professionals. The point of this entire video is that there is a limited and shrinking supply of working CRT TVs.

Hollywood needs to stop being cheapskates with 24 frames.... It sucks.... the flicker when panning is terrible.... It's not the 1900s anymore
