  • Recently switch from a Tomei Titanium CBE to Cobb Tuning's Titanium CBE.
    Here is a montage of clips comparing the two exhaust systems + clips of what the wrx sti sounds like with the Invidia Catted Downpipe with stock CBE. I really enjoyed the stock CBE, however my car was protuned with a 3" CBE exit and I notice a large drop in torque on the top end.
    Current setup:
    Cobb Tuning Titanium 3" CBE
    Invidia Catted DP
    AEM CAI

    love the sound of the tomei, subaru just isn't a single exhaust car tho : (. So i got the Invidia R400 and damn is that one spicy!

    Why does your car have a ticking noise after fully warming it up

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  4 роки тому +1

      are you referring to the noise you here after the rev's for the tomei exhaust? If so, that sound is the springs that are used to hold the exhaust piping together along with the clamps. I could never completely get rid of that rattle.

    I would really really love to see a video of just interior driving. Is that something you'd be willing to do? The sound of this exhaust for the interior is my only concern. Thanks for the awesome videos man! I'm jealous of your ride!

      Will definitely do this! I'll make it with the same exterior stereo sony microphone I use for recording the exhaust on track. Keep in mind though that the Catted DP will making it a bit louder + the NHV in my car is pretty harsh considering I have beatrush motor mounts, transmission mount, + pitch stop mount. I'm talking as if I already made the video hahaha gimme a couple of weeks and ill get this done! I'll comment here when I make the video for you :)

    Does it have bearable drone with your currently set up? Down pipe+COBB TI

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  2 роки тому

      I think the drown is bearable if I were to compare it to running the down pipe with a tomei CBE! I personally thought the stock exhaust setup had a lot of drone at highway speeds so This setup didn't exactly fix that, but instead gave me a nicer sound to listen to :)

  • @kelramo
    @kelramo 3 роки тому +2

    Hi!! How's the drone with the Cobb Titanium?

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  3 роки тому +1

      sorry for the late reply! I think the drone is as minimal as it can be. Not that it doesn't exist, but compare to a lot of other exhaust (I can only personally compare it to tomei or stock) it has the least amount of drone.
      If I were to do it all over again, I probably would keep the stock dp to minimize the drone even more and protune it that way. Personally I don't think the gains for swapping the dp is worth it if you're only going stage 2 (intake + TBE).
      I also think the stock exhaust drones as well (really heavy base decibel drone). when I rode in my friend's car with EHL, the drone was gone. So I think if you're looking to get rid of drone, I'd look into getting Killer B headers.

  • @BradlehDadleh
    @BradlehDadleh 4 роки тому +2

    Does this exhaust have a lot of drone? I've got a 2019 STI too, but I'm still on the stock exhaust. I'm hoping this one is a good one to switch to. Do you recommend it?

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  4 роки тому +1

      I think a lot of exhaust have some drone (even stock has a deep bass drone to it). I don't think you can completely eliminate it with out some more sound dampening in place in the car, but from my experience, I believe drone is at a minimum and less annoying with this exhaust compared to stock and running tomei which did have drone at high way speeds. Tomei drone was manageable at highway speeds with stock downpipe, but was pretty damn bad once I put the invidia dp on. I think you just ran COBB Ti CBE with stock downpipe, drone would but very minimal if any compared to what I currently experience in the car. I'm tempted to put my stock downpipes back on hahaha

    You think that Cobb exhaust will pass at your next Laguna 90db track day. I wanna buy it but I'm worried about 90 db limit

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  5 років тому

      stock downpipe it will forsure pass, but a turbo back system i don't think it will. Cobb tuning told me their loudest db reading they go for their turbo back system was 93db. The nice thing about this exhaust setup is that the tips are slip on also. The next time I go to laguna, I plan to have some laguna pipes attached to the tips to angle the exhaust a different direction hahahaha

    Would you recommend the invidia down pipe still, or do you think there are others that may suit the catback better?

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the late response! glad you love the exhaust! I definitely think its one of the best sounding still! I unfortunately do not have the car anymore, but If I were to do it over again. I probably would pro tune it with just the CBE and leave the sock down pipe! owning the car in CA, it was annoying to work on the car just to pass a smog test and IMHO the gains are pretty marginal. - according my tuner, pro tuning a STI with just CBE still yield 230hp/300tq where as with my the downpipes installed, I put down 230hp/320tq. my base dyno run on my car put down 264hp/264tq. So it still a pretty substantial jump in torque, but personally I don't think the hassle is worth the additional 20+ tq

    I’m torn between the Cobb and the nameless CBE. I do a lot of highway miles for work. How’s the Cobb for cabin drone?

    • @chrishaynes4714
      @chrishaynes4714 5 років тому +1

      Interested as well, as I just purchased a 2019 STI and want to stay away from drone as much as possible. Coming from the S2000 game, where my head was dead after 30 minutes because of drone.

    • @SpacemonkeySTI

      @@chrishaynes4714 - My wife and I also are on the highway a lot (wedding photography life hahaha) and CBE tomei was tolerable, but when i put the downpipe on, she started to make more comments. After the exhaust ticket, she told me it was time to change it and was started to get embarrassed to showing up to client meetings with such a loud car hahaha!
      I drove the car for a few weeks with stock CBE + invidia and she really liked it but understood that it was cutting power (her butt dyno analysis hahaha) so I got the COBB Ti!
      It's really not that much louder than the stock CBE at highway speeds (cruising 70-80mph). You'd have to twist my arm to admit there is absolutely no drone. I think there is some, but I think stock CBE also had a really low bass drone. I prefer COBB sound at cruising speeds. I get more cabin noise that most people since i drive the car on beatrush motor mounts, transmission mount, and pitchstop mount. I also have the kartboy SSK on the car so a lot of NHV enters the cabin. I don't think this would be the case if you just did COBB CBE + catted DP.
      hope that helps!

      bumper design is for quad, but i really disliked the idea of have a 4 cylinder engine needed quad exit for the sake of looks. I enjoyed the weight saving but did not enjoy the exhaust ticket hahaha really thankful that Cobb came out with this titanium exhaust so at least I am still saving weight while carrying another muffle to fill the other side

    Do you need a down pipe for it to sound like that or will the cobb titanium cat back do im looki g for tha rumble? New sti owner 2019 please advise thanks!!

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  5 років тому +1

      Hi man! Sorry for the late reply! You'll always have the rumble as long as you keep your stock, unequal length headers. I have a video comparing tomei CBE with stock downpipe vs with downpipe and you can hear a subtle difference in tone. It doesn't necessary give you MORE rumble, but you definitely hear more of the mid and high tones. with a stock downpipe, changing the cbe will allow you to hear the exhaust more, but it may be a bit bass heavy. I suggest just going with the CBE first since you do not need a tune for just running a CBE and if you want a bit more sound, you go and buy a catted dp (catless if you want a lot more of that hollow and airy sound, but know the people behind you may hate the way your car smells hahaha). I love the way catless sounds, but being in California, i wouldn't risk it anymore. they love given tickets here!

    tomei was better

    • @SpacemonkeySTI
      @SpacemonkeySTI  5 років тому

      Arron Zhao definitely a subjective opinion and I can see why the tomei is attractive, I mean I drove around with it for 70,000 miles hahaha the thing was loud is sounds great if that’s what you want. If i wanted louder, I’d probably have gone catless for my dp. I already get a lot of NHV from my beatrush motor, trans, & pitchstop mounts & the resonance from the tomei just shook everything in the cabin.
      I can finally listen to music again in my car at a relatively normal volume vs pushing my stereo to near max volume to partially hearing the lyrics of a song over the exhaust drone on the freeway.
      If you still want your car to be streetable, keep a lower profile with a quad tips, & be a bit quiet when you need to be, I think Cobb’s exhaust is the only choice. The extra money over tomei is worth it to keep the dB within CA limits & still saves weight over SS alternatives
