Thank you so much!! This helps me understand Hobbes' theory of the state for my course in the Introduction to Political Theory. Much love and gratitude from an AB Political Science Sophomore! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s good. It is nice to know my efforts are beneficial. You might check out the entire playlist. There are several videos even just on Hobbes. ua-cam.com/video/yntIkUeqBb8/v-deo.html
I’ve thought about it. However, these videos are basically lectures for my students. I also require them to complete Reading Quizzes which include citations. So, if I include citations, likely I would receive mere copies.
I am glad you enjoy the video. Hobbes is less interested in proving something about human nature as opposed to presuming it. He, more or less, assumes that people are inherently self-interested-that we will look out for our own interests first above all others and that is what we should do. From this he argues that, even if we are inherently self-interested, we should leave the state of nature (a state of self-interest) and join the social contract (a state where we give up some opportunities for self-interest). We should join the social contract because it is the best option to protect our own lives. So, Hobbes point is less that we are inherently self-interested, but rather that *even though* we are self-interested, we should give up some of those interests. The relation to the *Lord of the Flies* is that we place ourselves in danger when we do not create and cohere with social norms.
Really helped my essay writing:)

Useful, but would be more helpful if you cited where you found your information
