When I first bought the 02 Liberty I ordered for the wife and picked up in Oct of 01 for her I approved of it because it reminded me of the Willy's Jeep Overland my uncle had when I was young. Most didn't see it but I did and when you lift the Liberty and put some bigger tires and wheels on it or just bigger tires it suddenly looks even more like those old ones from yesteryear. Had Jeep put some wood panels on it maybe people would have seen it. We've had our 02 KJ since new and it's seen many vehicles that were all said to be 'nicer' than the Liberty. But when we parked that Liberty it stayed longer than all the others. Still quiet going down the highway, still solid feeling, all the controls work, all the electronics are fine. Compare to our Escalade that was a squeak and rattle box going down the highways inside of two years and at three years the head liner was falling down on my head! That has never happened with my KJ! So maybe the definition of 'nice' should be changed. 18 years and the KJ is still much as it's always been other than scratchs and dings from real world use.
Great tutorial, I have a 04 liberty, I installed the exact lift, gotta say for me it's a two man job. My truck at the time had 120k, I replaced the ball joints, tie rods, also front loaded struts and rear shocks. I installed 2757017 tires and I gotta say almost 3 years later my truck is still turning heads! Still rides fine, no issues. Thank you so much for your detailed video.
Hey guys, just a bit of advice when installing lifts on KJ's. Do urself a favor and loosen the front cv axle nut fully and push it inward, this will give ya the extra clearance u need by allowing the lower control arm 2 drop even more 2 get the spring and strut fork back in place without a bunch of pry bars etc. Just my two cents.
Thx man. At least now I got a better idea of what I am getting into. The rear seems a lot easier than I expected. Front seems more involved than I expected, but nothing I cant handle. I got to do a head job. I figured while all that stuff is out of the way for the head gasket why not give it a little lift. :)
Now that I have done the job, I think the better way to make this kit would be to make different strut forks rather than spacers. Seems like the job would be so much easier with offset eyelets and longer forks than using spacers. Getting the forks to line up with the lower control arm while not hitting the frame rail was not easy. The spring ratio results in a higher lift than the spacer is tall. The rear is 1 to 1, but the front close to 2 to 1 or so. My front went up about 4 inches, and the rear just 2. The front spaces measure 1.25 inches.
Measure from the bottom of the fender flare to the center of the wheel hub. Stock height is 19". Anything less and your springs are sagging. Don't waste your money on spacers. OME springs and Bilstein shocks will give you 1.5" and a better and reliable ride.
It's a lot easier to take that 10mm bolt out of the brake line mount at the inner fender than to remove your calipers. It will give you all the extra length you'll need.
excellent video > just what i was looking for. for everyones info release all bolts with bushes like trailing arms when doin any lift on any vehicle. re tighten them with vehicle weight on the wheels.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Hope it helps. The longer boots are used because the shocks are exposed two inches more due to the lift. They protect the shock seal and chrome shaft from dirt and dust. It was a year ago that I did the actual conversion and I don't remember some of the details as far as zip tying the boots. I believe I just followed the directions and you zip tie them on. But I do seem to remember that two of the boots were not used. Not sure if I made a mistake or not. Thanks
+SilverCreekMotors Hi there SILVER I have an issue i broke the TIP of the brand new coil strut assembly after i compressed the coil, i put the key on the tip and try to unscrew the not but the TIP BROKE . I didn't see in the VIDEO how to dismantle the strut , Can you please help me THANK YOU
+SilverCreekMotors Hi great video .I would need some help... I got a new strut coil assembly and i have to install RUSTY S 2,5 in LIFT mount on top but i broke the end of the strut TIP where you insert the key to stop it from turning so the NUT comes out. Can you please give me some edvice THANKS
what about your SWAYBAR LINKS? I took mine off-road without upgrading those and lets just say we got to listen to pop bang boom all the way home until I could re tighten them... Currently looking for the right disconnects. You could have used spring compressors to take all that in or out. ;)
Torque everything you move there , and lubricate the sway bar bushings (torque wrench them too) Another sound that you may have is that the front coils touch the upper arms.....take a look at JbA arms
that looks mean. The Jeep Liberty is a awesome vehicle, never get stuck in the snow in the New England winter. Don't even need to shovel yourself out, but that looks nice and there's no wonder my brother wants to lift his jeep so bad. I'm going to definitely help and support him to get that done. Those rims and that color, make it look like a mean tuft Jeep. What color is that, olive drab? I love all the new Jeep colors, some look like the Plasti-Dip colors. But when I was thinking of painting my MK4 gti a new color all the colors I was thinking about I would eventually see on a Jeep. I don't know if they're factory paint jobs or aftermarket?
I put this 2.5 daystar on but tires are wearing out. the shop said the front lower control arm suppose to be straight but its not with the spacers in the struts also the tires don't look straight.... it more look like that: / \ but , put stress on the front suspention did you ever take it to do allingment? . I think ill take this lift off, its nothing but problems. they should sell the lift with the proper extensions . 250.00 for the lift 350.00 to install. I think its a waste of money so far.:(
Lotta work. Are you anywhere near WVC Ut. It would be nice to have some one with knowledge of this stuff to talk to. I just bought an 03 in pretty good condition but lots of squeeks.
For anyone who has done this, how did you get enough clearance in the rear to install the springs and spacers. I tried to remove the rear axle pivot but it’s not cooperating.
9:43 you can see the contact area, so the spacers dont need to be as big as the 1s sold. im going to get longer bolts and washers.much cheaper.on the rears il just cut some spacers out of cheap plastic chopping boards and stack them to get lift. cheap.
I've found that you can't go too much bigger with your tires unless you install a lift. Really just about one size larger, such as 235/70. I tried to fit 245/70 and they looked great, so long as you didn't try to turn:-). Check out the forums at jeepjk.com or lostjeeps.com, there are lots of articles and posts about lifting the Liberty as well as other maintenance and repair tips. See you there!
great video! I had a question? I had this kit put on a 2006 Jeep liberty CRD along with new struts and after a few days I am getting really bad squeaking noises from the front to struts. did your Jeep make any noises when the kit first put on?
amazing video gave me a lot of usefull tips, I just have a few questions, What is the long boot used for that comes in the kit? also is it safe to just zip tie down the boot like you did in the video? Thank you, great job looks good btw
did you have to replace your axles or add axle spacer? I lift my jeep liberty and my axle would rub cause it would go in to much only on driver side though
Hi, I loved your video I already did it in my liberty and it looks awesome, The only thing i have a creak and pounding. People told me I have to replace the upper control arm aftermarket it avoids that and that is my question, is that correct? I hope your response I and I wish you make more jeep videos...
Hi there. I would need some help. 2.5 RUSTY MOOG ASSY spring shocks and changed all components MOOG plus rebuild RACK N PINION. But i got cracks and bongs noises when drive n hit bomps or turn or back up n turn the steering i hear clang noise. any idea ? i checked all i could. PLEASE HELP THANKS
Because of your lift does it ride the same or is it more rough? And do u know what your tire clearance is? This video was very helpful by the way thank you
It has the same ride quality. You keep the original springs so the only thing that is different is how high it sits. It does change the center of gravity. I don't have the jeep anymore so I don't know the tire clearance. I do know I went from 235 tires to 255 tires and it still seemed to have more clearance. the only thing is the tire would rub on the wheel well when the steering was turned all the way.
Hey man Putting this same Kit On my 02 Liberty this weekend even though it says its For a 2003 to 2007 Ok my question is How do I fork to bolt back up to the Control arm ? I was told by Daystar that it wont fit after all the work that it needs a smaller spacer ? Any info would help. I have a set of 03 struts I could use! Should I use the 03 struts ?
Hey did you even figure out how to fit the lift on your 2002? I have one also and am trying to fit a rough country 3 inch lift and of course it is not even close to fitting.
+NYRIKAN I bought RUSTY S LIFT REAR 2.5 PUCKS FRONT 1,5 but i PAYED FOR 2.5in but He said that in the end of the installation will be 2.5 Witch was not true ,and it cost me A GRAND TOTAL OF 260.00 PLUS DUTIES 100.00 - IT CAME TO 360.00 CAD Thats the deal in CANADA.... A WASTE OF DINEROOOO
+NYRIKAN NOOOOO RUSTY.. Big scam... i got fingered by that guy , what a rip-off and baad lift kit i ORdERD 2,5 LIFT KITand GOT 1,5 instead he never accepted to changed. I COULDENT PAY WITH PAYPAL and payed another 100$ at delivery in Canada {duties}

Does it handle different after you lift it? How many inches did you lift it? Did you backspace your tires as well?
It's jeep thing.
03 here, have some vids

thanks for taking the time to make this video. It really helped me with my lift install!
Very helpful video, took a lot of work to make this video by yourself I can tell, thanks again.
Thanks for taking the time and going over fine details.. Nice looking KJ

Good info on video. Wearing headphones and hearing the tools drop it’s not too pleasant though LOL
Very nice review, I would love a liftkit on my liberty, but I'm no handy guy, nor do I have the tools for it ... :(
what about your SWAYBAR LINKS?

Currently looking for the right disconnects.
You could have used spring compressors to take all that in or out. ;)
really nice video, looks like the front turned into a real pita.that's a lot of front end
disassembly! lol

great video, I now know there's no way in hell I could do this myself with my couple of wrenches and one jack lol
Yeah you can. I've done it.

Can you tell me what's the daystar lift model on the video? Thanks
Look great 👍 how much cost this job labor & part ?
excellent tutorial, when can I make an appointment for you to life my Liberty?
For anyone who has done this, how did you get enough clearance in the rear to install the springs and spacers. I tried to remove the rear axle pivot but it’s not cooperating.

Is lift possible by upgrading Rim size?
Please suggest me which Rim size is better to lift Jeep Liberty 2010, original size is 225/70R16

Not good to leave non-extended shocks on the rear
How much did the lift cost you on the Jeep
great video!

Seems simple enough
did you have to replace your axles or add axle spacer? I lift my jeep liberty and my axle would rub cause it would go in to much only on driver side though
Hi, I loved your video I already did it in my liberty and it looks awesome, The only thing i have a creak and pounding.
PLUS I INSTALLED J B A UPPER ARMS
Lol @ 7:56, "rubber nipples." Great video!
Really? How old are you? 10?
Why didn't you paint the parts?
whats a good front strut to use with this 2.5 daystar lift?
Did you ever have any problems with the steering or noise and vibrations even after installation and alignment?
Did you reinstall the stock struts if so does it fit?
Because of your lift does it ride the same or is it more rough? And do u know what your tire clearance is? This video was very helpful by the way thank you

How much was it for this? Just the lift kit .
Where did you purchase the lift kit?
Hey man Putting this same Kit On my 02 Liberty this weekend even though it says its For a 2003 to 2007 Ok my question is How do I fork to bolt back up to the Control arm ? Damn, do you think you could have dropped those tools a little closer to the mic? ;-)
Will it affect the ball joints ?
Does daystar make a bigger lift kit?
Probably easier to just buy a kit with all new coil springs already set
EXCELENTE MEN
quite dropping the tools man your killing my ears. Headphones suck when watching this kind of videos.
Not to mention that's just being a sloppy, unprofessional mechanic.
Please what material is made this spacers? P
whats the biggest size tire you can put on the 2.5" lift on the liberty?
brad roberts 245 75 16
brad roberts but just get the rustys springs instead..
I'm running 245-75-16s with 2 inch spacers on mine. I heard you can put 265-75-16s on them, but the're a lot problem with rubbing etc...
I have 255 and mine isn’t even lifted
I HAVE RUSTYS 2.5 HOWEVER DONT FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR UPPER CONTROL ARMS FROM ROCKY ROAD OUTFITTERS....DONT WASTE YOU TIME WITH THIS DAYSTAR
