I remember that year vividly (especially since Vancouver made a 3-1 comeback against St. Louis only to blow a 3-1 lead to Minnesota the very next round). Barkov is underrated af and he should have won the Smythe. It’s for the whole playoffs. Just look at what Barkov did all playoffs. He faced all of Tampa, Boston, and the Rangers’ top stars and completely and utterly shut them down. I believe there was only 1 goal from the star players when Barkov was on the ice in 3 straight series. His selke level defensive play was monumental in shutting down teams top players.
Really? The guy couldn't swallow his pride to come out and show respect not only to the fans and the league but to his parents to quickly pose with the trophy?
I feel awarding it to McD, is a gift for the 🇨🇦 fans. Bet I’m sure we knew that he would not want to take it in his hands. Probably both because he’s a team guy, and because he’s humble enough to stay out of the Panthers well earned celebration. Panthers fans were booing, and I thought Bob would get it just like them because it’s such a rarity to give it to a player from the loosing side. But in the and it’s hard to argue with McD’s record breaking numbers. People don’t realize what an incredible feat it would be to break a Gretz record playing in the modern era. Gretzky saw smart enough to expose all the defensive weaknesses that were present in his era of hockey, including stand up goal tending. McD plays in a time when all those weaknesses have been well shored up. So it’s truly incredible what he was able to accomplish.
I agree, and McDavid more than deserved the conn smythe. Too bad they were on the losing end of the series however but made it interesting coming back from 3-0. Also congratulations to Florida for winning there first cup!

Stop crying, it's a team sport had to give McBaby his toy and the last ten minutes shows the team had no hope in its other players and that will simmer with a lot of them next year.... GOOD!
Honestly, the reason why Florida wins a lot of chips in the last few years is because they have good administrations and the players want to play in a state where they have no taxes and good weather conditions. People who support Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning are not real fans and are in the arenas just for partying that’s all

Then MVP must stand for Most Valuable Pylon because, except for a few games, the Oiler captain did not lead effectively. He gets plenty of awards and recognition for his figure skating/points during the regular season, but this is the playoffs, and you have to show some heart. Like Bobrovsky did. And don't anyone make any excuses for him not coming out to accept the trophy. Big baby
Kinda lost a little bit of respect for McDavid tonight. He should have come out to accept it. I know he's disappointed but that's no reason to sit on the sidelines and wallow in pity. He had a fantastic playoffs and the team had a great run so the award is something that both he and the team can be proud of. He's got nothing to be ashamed of. In my opinion, it's not very respectful of the people who voted you the award, the past winners and the heritage the award holds, nor the fans to just ignore the commissioner of the league when he's awarding you the MVP. And no, you don't have to like Bettman personally but it's the grown-up and the professional thing to do to respect the office and the process. You don't have to grab it, hold it up, and hoot & holler with joy but a skate out to accept the award, a handshake and a tip of the hat to the fans wouldn't have killed him. That's what being gracious in defeat would look like.
Just felt bad for his father, he was trying to get a photo of McDavid receiving it, when he realized he wasn't coming out they left after. Proud family.
Canadian fans that continually blame the commissioner are a joke lol the oilers got the officiating edge all series and y’all still have excuses for why Edmonton lost. 🤡
None of the Canadian teams deserve it as of late. When's the last Canadian team that had such a great regular season that you thought they were instantly cup contenders based on quality and not just standings? Calgary 5-6 seasons ago and even then, the Lightning were clear cup favourites (even though both lost 1st round). The Leafs do well in the regular season standings but no one considers them a playoff capable team. I know it's just 16 wins and the regular season isn't everything but it lays out quality. There's a reason in the old format why 7th and 8th seed teams rarely won a single round.
McDavid has been incredible this post-season, but I think Bobrowsky deserved it more. He carried his team on his back all the way to the scf - once again. Game 7 too could have gone a whole lot better for the Oilers if it hadn't been for Bobrowsky...
I’m a fan of neither team but the fact that McDavid won the Conn Smythe made me absolutely sick. Personally I don’t care what kind of numbers you put up the Conn Smythe should never be awarded to a losing player I understand that it’s an individual award, but at the same time there are a lot more factors that go into it aside from stats. Also I don’t care if he’s the captain or not he still should’ve accepted it and then just chuck it on a table or something and not bringing it into the locker room. Looks like he’ll go down as the sixth illegitimate Conn Smythe winner.
Congrats Florida Congrats Connor McDavid After crying for a long time…the sun will rise again, Edmonton will come back stronger and better next time What a season everyone, cya all in October

Has any player refused the acceptance of a trophy especially title of MVP? Giguere had balls this genius cannot accept defeat. By the way, we all know your frustration with a lack of win.
I wish people who didn't know anything about hockey would stop commenting on UA-cam videos about hockey. McDavid had a >40 point playoff run which hasn't been done since Lemieux and Gretzky, he deserves the Conn Smythe, end of story. Who would you have given it to over McDavid? I don't like the Conn Smythe being given to a member of the losing team, but this year it was well deserved. The fact you can't comprehend his achievements means you're quite uneducated in the realm of hockey. Move along and bring your ignorance with you.
Man... The guy has one of the best playoff runs in History and Florida fans don't even understand the sport enough to see what everyone else witnessed was once in a lifetime. The booing really turned me off. What an embarrassment to Florida right before what was supposed to be a great moment being presented with the cup. Then you have clowns posting their great knowledge "I guess you only need to show up for 3 games". It's MVP of the playoffs not of the series.
Bobrovsky had a .906 save percentage this playoffs which is obtainable by a goalie every single year. Barkov was a -1 and Mcdavid was a +12 this playoff and put up numbers that haven't been seen since Gretzky and Lemieux. It is pretty simple
Yeah you're correct he will come back with a big smile on his face in front of 20 000 panthers fans , your IQ is probably 10. He don't care about it and why would he ? He will beat all the record at the end of his career and will be an hall of famer. What he really want is a cup. Kid
It will be a long time before the Oil make it back to the finals to many good teams ahead of them that will contend for the cup next year , it is the hardest championship to win and the Oil lost their only chance . Congrats Florida Panthers 👍👍
To be honest i think its harder to win Conn Smythe than the Stanley Cup. I think he has plenty of reason to celebrate that. If i would win that prize i would hoist it in the air and skate over the rink like people do with the stanley cup. So proud i would be.
No, it's not. Because to win Stanley Cup you have to win in the playoffs. To win Conn Smythe you have to get votes from sports writers which is easy if you are hyped 1st overall pick and Canadian. Crosby got Smythe in 2015-16 with 19 points. It's not hard but it depends on how popular you are with sportswriters.
Florida fans kind of showed their ignorance a bit tonight by Booing McDavid. The guy deserved it. Not an Oiler or Panther Fan, just a hockey fan. I know the home crowd is full of emotion after the big win, but Bob winning the MVP evaporated after game 6. Think Connor may have won it regardless but probably would not have cared if Bob won it.
The guy got 20 points more than the top Florida player and had the 4th highest points run in a playoffs, behind only Lemieux and 2 runs by Gretzky -- 5 points behind the all-time record. I'm sick of people wanting a playoffs MVP award to go solely to the winning team. That's not the point of the award. Although Bob was great, he didn't lead the playoffs in Save % or GAA.
9 seasons in the NHL and The Golden Child McDavid has raised the Stanley Cup over his head zero times. Contrast that to Wayne Gretzky, since Oiler fans just love to make the comparisons, within his first 9 seasons, he won 4 Stanley Cup’s consecutively. The next Wayne Gretzky my ass! McCupless more like. Take last seasons Boston Bruins, the best record in NHL history, and what did that amount to? Records are impressive, but if they don’t net you that big win in the Stanley Cup Finals, doesn’t mean much! That’s why greats like Mario and Gretzky have not only lead their teams to Stanley Cup victory, but consecutively.
This is a joke... voters got caught up in the hype and not the facts. Trophy belongs to Bob or Barkov, the first who had 4 and the second 5, excellent games, not McDavid who had 2 (and was shutout in the last 2).
Yes, I appreciate this is a playoffs, not finals, MVP award, but before games 4 & 5 it was almost unanimously between Bob & Barkov. This is just hype and recency bias.

He single handled willed the finals on with a record 8 points in two playoff games. Like multiple records set. He’s done something in an era that has been impossible until now. When you take all that into account, you realize you have to give it to him. Bobrovsky was incredible, but he wasn’t monumental. Like when Vasi won it he had something crazy like ended every clinching game with a shutout. That was mind blowing. Bob broke down in three straight games. That’s where he lost it. Connor McDavid the first player from the losing team to win the Conn Smythe since Jean-Sébastien Giguère in 2003.
At least he accepted it, McDavid is the first to not come out
@@hypn0298 I don't blame McDavid for that. It's a natural response.
Bettman Hockey League(BHL)
@@hypn0298I wouldn’t accept a personal trophy when you could be celebrating winning a team trophy. It’s not the same, and McDavid is going through a lot of emotions. He’ll accept it likely in private.
I perfectly agreed with you
Barkov is underrated af and he should have won the Smythe. It’s for the whole playoffs. Just look at what Barkov did all playoffs. He faced all of Tampa, Boston, and the Rangers’ top stars and completely and utterly shut them down. I believe there was only 1 goal from the star players when Barkov was on the ice in 3 straight series. His selke level defensive play was monumental in shutting down teams top players.
i love Barkov but there's no way it wasn't McDavid's Conn Smythe.. he had almost double the points of Barkov.
Really? The guy couldn't swallow his pride to come out and show respect not only to the fans and the league but to his parents to quickly pose with the trophy?
People need to stay classy in a situation like this. The Conn Smythe is a consolation prize.
Conor has no class. He should have come out onto the ice and accepted the trophy for the Oiler fans in attendance. Instead he acted like a baby.
Mcbaby Mcbutter
The Oilers have nothing to be ashamed of. They've made a historic come from. And all Canadians are proud of them!
I agree, and McDavid more than deserved the conn smythe. Too bad they were on the losing end of the series however but made it interesting coming back from 3-0. Also congratulations to Florida for winning there first cup!
Should some class and accept the award
Now Florida the need to show some class
😍😍😍😍Bob won this game by himself. We all know that Panthers win 2-1 in game 7 at Florida on Monday, June 24, 2024.😍😍😍! Congratulations to Panthers and their fans.
When Bob stopped that 5-3 power play (yes, when the panthers down a man and broken stick, essentially a 5-3), that is when I thought Bob earned it and McD. lost it to Bob. Bob held on through some intense shots to battle that win for game 7

Yesss exactly no one say anything about him such being A selfish commissioner and an American too winning 31 Stanley cup straight since 1993 till now
A very worthy achievement and awarding of the Conn Smythe trophy.
First player to ghost the commissioner, and not accept his Conn Smythe trophy! 😎
He will rue that decision.
That was McAwesome 😂
100% well deserved. yeah bobrovsky saved the panthers in the end, but also had 3 straight games of getting handfuls of goals dropped on him, mcdavid literally had a record breaking playoff run and was 100% the whole time

As a Flames fan, I've loathed the Oilers since the mid 80's, but next year I'd like to see them win just so this kid can finally have the most difficult trophy to win in sports. I wish he had come out just to show this crowd what a good sportsman looks like.
He didn’t come out to get it but jsg did
Connor Mcdavid and Reggie Leach the only two non-goalies to win the Conne Smythe on a losing team. Mcdavid officially made history.
This is the difference between Crosby and McDavid, McDavid may be better in non deciding games, but when its time to step up, Crosby is the best.
Crosby is till the best player in the last 20 years.
delusional ass take.
I'm not surprised the Oilers gain another consolation prize after another year of failing. This team is the personification of participation awards.

@@donlord794 he's saying that all these new florida fans that magically appeared last year and this year are bandwagon.
Honestly, the reason why Florida wins a lot of chips in the last few years is because they have good administrations and the players want to play in a state where they have no taxes and good weather conditions. People who support Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning are not real fans and are in the arenas just for partying that’s all
ive been a montreal fan since i was a kid. these fans are bandwagon 100% they did good last year and everyone hopped on board. you dont cheer your team when they do good. you cheer and hope even when there down and out.i cheered for the oilers because i wanted the cup in canada even though panthers are like 50 percent canadian.

McDoogles stat sheet the night he won the Conn Smythe: 0-0-0, 2 shots...

Classy move on McDavid’s part to not receive his trophy, but it would have been okay if he did. Well deserved.
Just felt bad for his father, he was trying to get a photo of McDavid receiving it, when he realized he wasn't coming out they left after. Proud family.
Time to wait another year to see if Canada can bring the cup back to where it belongs also hope we get a new commissioner
it belongs in detroit but we're trash and dont play defense. im just kidding obviously lol.

You would swear they were in Edmonton once they announced who won the award. Facking amazing.
Congrats Florida

I wish people who didn't know anything about hockey would stop commenting on UA-cam videos about hockey. McDavid had a >40 point playoff run which hasn't been done since Lemieux and Gretzky, he deserves the Conn Smythe, end of story. Who would you have given it to over McDavid? The fact you can't comprehend his achievements means you're quite uneducated in the realm of hockey. Move along and bring your ignorance with you.

Curious as to who you think is in a better position right now?
Советская вратарская школа в нхл и наши пацаны лучшие! За родину!
Guess Jersey fans are also ignorant too since they did the same to Giguere?
Even his dad said no 0:54
Well deserved ❤! Obviously he didn’t play super well these last 2 games, but in the playoffs overall, he’s been phenomenal.
Sid the Kid was the true Next One and he has 3 cups to boot
This is a joke... voters got caught up in the hype and not the facts. Trophy belongs to Bob or Barkov, the first who had 4 and the second 5, excellent games, not McDavid who had 2 (and was shutout in the last 2).
Yes, I appreciate this is a playoffs, not finals, MVP award, but before games 4 & 5 it was almost unanimously between Bob & Barkov. This is just hype and recency bias.
@@gmotdot It’s not a finals mvp. I don’t think you understand what McDavid did is unprecedented. He broke the record of a guy who played on a team that didn’t have a salary cap…and is commonly known as the greatest to ever the play the game.
As important as goalies are it’s shocking how rare it is to see them win the conn smyth and Bob didn’t do enough to warrant it when there was a player doing things we have never seen before.
Bob didnt deserve it. He was absolutely ATROCIOUS games 4,5,6 and that lost him the Conn Smythe. Overall he ended with a .906 in the post season. Thats not incredible by any means. In fact its pretty average. The last goalies to win the conn smythe? .937, .946, .940, .920, .945)...
Well, we may remember that in 2003, Giguère won the Conn Smythe without winning the Cup, by 2007, he had his Cup.
