Suggestion for a future film reaction ... on May 25, 1979 one of the most iconic science fiction films to date was released, and helped launch Sigourney Weaver into mega-stardom, as well as launching a huge film and gaming franchise. You owe it to yourself to watch Alien and maybe upload a reaction video on the 44th anniversary of the film's premier.
After Robin's death, people were coming forward to share acts of kindness that he hadn't wanted publicized. There's a short video of him Skyping a woman in New Zealand who was dying. He's just saying hi and wishing her well, but you can see so much pain in his eyes and see that he was troubled. But he made the effort for her. There's another story about him flying to see a young girl who'd been sent home to die. He went on his own and asked that no one be told and spent the whole day in the girl's house with her and her family. He did things like that just for the individuals, not to get some free press about what a great guy he was. He didn't want anyone to know.
My favorite story is what he used to do around Christmas. He would go visit kids in the hospital, providing gifts for all of them. And the only thing he asked was that it never be publicized. And it only came out after Robin's death.
The "it's not your fault" scene really hits hard and is pretty psychologically accurate. People who've been through trauma and abuse (especially childhood) can understand logically, intellectually that it's not their fault, but that doesn't actually help them. Emotionally they are still the child who believes that a bad thing happened because they were bad or deserved it.
As someone who grew up in an abusive household and full of trauma, I can totally relate to that scene. I had a similar moment with my therapist in my early thirties and oh boy I can tell you it’s not easy to hear and much more difficult to internalize. I even responded with “I’m paying you to tell me this!” It takes time and it’s not easy to undo years of abusive trauma. Every day is a struggle.
What I really love about that scene is Damon’s acting. The way he laughs when he says, “I know.” It’s so real, because people with trauma try to bush it off, and suppress their emotions. But it’s hard to maintain that.
"My talent is I can sleep. I'm really good at it." Speaking as someone who has struggled with insomnia and sleep deprivation all his life; cherish that talent. It's a pretty good one to have.
That's a ride or die friend right there. One who'll stand up to you and tell you you're being an f-ing idiot. That's what separates your regular buddies from your friends.
In that moment, the "it's not your fault" scene, both of them seemed to find a missing piece. At least in my eyes. There is no mention of a son for Sean's character and Will's parents abandoned him. They became father and son.
I discovered Robin Williams as a teen when Mork and Mindy came out and was an instant fan. Through the years he made great movies and I always thought of him as a funny man which he is but this movie blew me away and showed his real depth. I feel like a bit of my youth died with him, miss him greatly. A wonderful movie and a great reaction.
The park bench scene was so memorable the city put memorial plaque on that park bench they filmed it on...just fyi...one of the best scenes ever put to film imo
I worked on a film in 96 starring Robin Williams and when people say "never meet your heroes, they'll only disappoint you" clearly they had never met him. He was so nice and a real gentleman. He came on set early every day to meet the extras and crew and often ate with us instead of going back to his trailer. He will be truly missed but at least he left us with plenty of good memories, this, 'Dead Poets society' and 'The Fisher King' are theee of my favourites... Nanoo, Nanoo😊
Most people respond to Will's anger and trust issues, but another valuable part of this movie is the idea that following a life path just because you're talented at something and therefore "owe it to" somebody -- your parents, your mentors, the world -- is a recipe for a sad and unfulfilled life. If skill isn't paired with true, honest desire, the apparent potential for success is just a mirage. More parents, educators, and counselors who advise kids need to understand this lesson.
Beautiful, beautiful reaction. As always, your emotional honesty shines and moves me. A lot of young reactors are surprised that none of the students took false credit for Will's work in the hallway. But graduate students are proud people who have got where they are through ostentatious talent and very hard work, and they want actually to *prove* their superiority; they would find it really unsatisfying to take credit for someone else's accomplishment.
"Robin Williams feels like a warm hug". Beautifully said, I couldn't agree more. He felt so deeply and gave so much, and we all get to experience so much of that whenever we want. I hope he had some idea of what he gave to so many.
Thank you, Jade! This is so cathartic, I weep like a scared child upon each reviewing. It's so bittersweet that Robin Williams is gone. We'll never see his likes again.
Part of me wonders if Afleck and Damon knew someone who was like Will. Not the intelligence but the self destructiveness. How they wrote the trauma of that character is so accurate to how trauma survivors act. The "it's not your fault" speech is so important.
You have quickly become one of my favorite reactors. Your empathy and attention to detail make your reactions extra good! I saw this film come up on your list and my first thought was “this going to be good!”
Can't wait to see your reaction to this, as I know you're a very empathic person. It's an incredible movie with outstanding performances from the entire cast.
Love your reaction!! The speeches by Sean and Chucky are so good; epic one-liners in this movie as well. "I swallowed a bug" is just a saying for "I better get outta here or shut up" - I embarrassed myself w/what I just said.
I read something a while ago & it said he was an amazing improv actor but i too wonder what is & what isnt. I do know that the "my wife used to fart in her sleep" conversation in this movie was improv & Wills laugh was real bc he wasnt expecting it 😂
This was an amazing reaction. The accent was Boston dialect, from Boston Massachusetts in the New England area of the United States. I happened to live in the New England area myself for ten years having lived in Northehn Maine for many years, so I know the accent quite well. Maybe I will go to a Red Sox game at Fenway Pahk and perhaps a Celtics and or Bruins game at TD Gahden along with maybe touring Hahvahd University. Do keep these amazing reactions. A day with you Jade is like walking through a field of flowers, it's absolutely beautiful.
The story about his wife farting was improvised by Robin, Matt's laughing was genuine and if you look closely you can see the camera operator shaking too. Robin also improvised the very last line of the movie. Scary when you realise that Matt & Ben wrote this classic when they were only 22 and when his performance was recognised by the Academy, Robin referenced their age during his acceptance words. The whole speech is one of the best Oscar moments ever, you can feel the love in the room for Robin, especially from the host Billy Crystal, his old friend from the very early days of trying to make it in showbiz. It wasn't polite applause from his peers - it was genuine love for a man who had brought so much joy & laughter but was also capable of touching performances like this. Wonderful. The award and speech are on YT, do try and watch. ❤
Man, Robin Williams was such a good dude. I love this movie!!! It's amazing how he calls Will sport at the beginning, but ends up calling him son. That gets me every time.
All time classic movie...and so timeless. You could watch it in 20 more years and it still hits on all cylinders. Always crying when I see this. And so did you! :P
Hey just wanted to say I loved this reaction. You're really funny. This movie has a special place in my heart. So it was awesome to see a reactor I really like checking this one out. Also I have a pretty strict "no commenting on reactors appearance" policy but I love your shirt. Or sweater. Whatever it is. It looks awesome on you

@@MovieJoob I actually grew up and am currently in NC where they filmed this! I meet a lot of people like his buddy Cal on a regular basis.. “If your not first..your last! “😛
The wife farting in her sleep story was improvised by Robin and they kept it in. One of my favorite movies. I also like it because I'm from New England and all the guys on the wharf I work at have that accent.
My FAVOURITE scene I actually can't handle how precious that scene is to me! And oh nice! Shoutout to you in New England! I hear it's beautiful in the Autumn! 😊
Wish I had your special talent, as I get older the worse I sleep, but I’m really good at napping 😂Great reaction this movie always brings tears . Especially the “ It’s not your fault “
Damon ans Afleck went to the same HS as I did years earlier. The Boston accent was natural to them. The characters were from "Southe"... South Boston a largely Irish working class area. Whitey Bulger was a king pin in Southie.
Beautiful movie, one of Robin Williams’ finest work, even though he was known for comedy movies, can’t wait for you to continue Band of Brothers and also for you to experience The Pacific as well
Underrated films of 1996. Sleepers and Beautiful Girls which was one of Natalie Portman's first films. Minnie Driver is in Sleepers. Both films have an outstanding cast and both are in the North East. New York area. You won't be disappointed with either film.
There are three accents in Boston. There is the standard Eastern New England accent. There is Southie, which is the accent of working class Bostonians from certain neighborhoods. And finally, there is the Boston Brahmin (JFK), still found among some wealthy Bostonians. There might still be some speakers using the Mid-Atlantic accent, which was an artificial accent created by upper class Americans to sound more British. It dropped out if favor by 1960.
I know you would enjoy Ordinary People, a 1980 film with a caring psychologist at the center. It was the directing debut of Robert Redford and it won 4 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. It is a beautiful movie that touches upon many of the same themes as Good Will Hunting.
I love it when you cry during your reactions... to me that really shows that you care about the movies that you watch... if you want to watch another tear jerker of a movie try watching Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis... if you decide to watch this movie make sure you have a box of Kleenex by your side
Really lovely video - thanks for helping us re-live this film experience - it's amazing how well this holds up - I'd have loved to see your reaction video for Dead Poets, but I see you've already watched it - IMO the best film about an inner transformation like this is BBC Singing Detective miniseries - brilliant, heartbreaking, astonishing - another amazing journey is Peter Brook's adap of the epic Mahabharata - something closer to the Good Will template is director Gus Van Sant's follow up, Finding Forrester - some less known Robin Williams gems include World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Being Human, Insomnia, Night Listener - and Face of Love is quietly amazing - it would also be nice to see you do reactions to Fisher King, and also Branagh's Hamlet, w Williams as Osric
This is the only Oscar Robin Williams ever won. The farting story and "he stole my line" parts were 100% improvised on the spot by Robin. Matt laughing at the story was genuine laughter and you can see him look at the crew when Robin starts going off script. You can also see a slight jiggling in the camera during the close ups on his face........ because the camera man was dying but trying so hard to keep it steady for the scene.
I love Robin Williams in every movie he's in .... the "My wife used to fart" scene was all Williams improvisation ...... what a loss 😥 Everyone in this movie is great tbh, Skarsgard, Damon, and Affleck, a well-deserved Oscar for the last 2 and Williams.
Oh excellent film! You'll like it Jade. Its really good. RIP Robin Williams. Thanks for another video ❤ A few suggestions for future material: Jerry MaGuire, Tombstone, Big trouble in little China, Real Genius, maybe the Rocky franchise too? I could go on forever so ill stop now 😆
Jade, you’ve quickly emerged as one of the best, most honest, heartfelt movie reactors. I’d love to see you branch out to other genres and directors you may not have seen… Quentin Tarantino: Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill… Coen Bros: Fargo, Raising Arizona, No Country For Old Men… David Fincher: Se7en, Fight Club. Keep up the good work. 👍🏼
Even though this was just a 30 min reaction. I wept. I balled my eyes out with the final gut punch of undiagnosed autism. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
"Going out for coffee" is indeed an arbitrary reason to get together. You ask someone out by saying, "Let's go out and [do some activity]". Going out to eat caramels, or going out for a hamburger, or going bowling....or maybe even beat up some guy from kindergarten....LOL
It's funny how he avoids the question after Sean tells him he lift 285... because he can't lift that weight. And his terrifying face when the person who lifts 285 is grabbing him in the throat.
Excellent taste for good actors you have, Robin Williams was a very great actor. I like that you diversify to more genres of movies. You are a good and sensitive person, Jade 👍. I wish you a very good weekend
The fart story that RW told was a total adlib, if you re-watch the scene you will notice the camera shake. The camera man was dieing at the other end of the camera, just a much as Mat was, the laughing was 100% genuine
great reaction. "The Legend of Bagger Vance" is pretty awesome too. Matt Damon and Will Smith both kill their rolls. It's pretty deep. I don't think it's quite as good as this one, but it's still pretty good.
I feel like some people don't get the full weight of the it's-not-your-fault scene. His character is all about being in control of his life, and then he has to be confronted with a time where he had no control. It's not just an emotional scene of him finally letting down his defenses, but we get some insight into why he is the way he is because he experienced traumatic powerlessness in the face of abuse he couldn't do anything about.
My guess as to why no one is falsely claiming to have solved the problem may be because they don't know if/when the person who _did solve_ the problems is going to admit it (for all they know it could have been any second while they all waited). I suppose one might even think there'd might be more behind it. Like trying to find a dishonest student. May not be realistic, but someone who would take the credit, might be thinking down those lines, because they are sneaky-brained. 🤷🏼♂️
The accent: It's a Boston / New England accent. Specifically, South Boston. Hence they referred to Will as a "southy". Ben Affleck and Matt Damon grew up there. As did Mark Wahlberg (he in one town over). They all have pronounced Boston accents in real life. Robin Williams is from Chicago. You can hear it in his voice at times. Fortunately, a Chicago accent could be, if you squint, mistaken for a Boston accent. :)
A child being physically abused, neglected and in a home where there is mental illness and alcoholism is equivalent to a soldier in intense combat during wartime. It causes PTSD for the child that will stay with him his entire life...and in this film you can see what this does to the now adults decision making skills....it's all caused by the abuse at such a young age. What Will does and says in this film makes perfect sense to me...some of the finest acting that I have ever seen by Matt and Minnie.
Great stuff. Robin was a genuine talent. Should try "Good Morning Vietnam," "Dead Poets Society," and "The Survivors." If you're interested in mental health films, might consider . . "Ordinary People," "A Beautiful Mind," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Girl Interrupted," "Empire of the Sun," or "The Dark Past."
Suggestions: Perks of being a wallflower The breakfast club Cha cha real smooth Tick tick boom 5 to 7 Those are among my favorites. Thanks Jade for giving us genuine reactions!
Anything you say? Here's a little known movie that I will classify as inspirational comedy. For your consideration: I HEART HUCKABEES P.S. Love the genuine content
WONDERFUL reaction to a truly great film. It's impossible to not be moved by Robin Willians and his legacy. Films I'd DEFINITELY recommend: "PLEASANTVILLE" "STRANGER THAN FICTION" "AMELIE" These three films are glorious and uplifting... strange and quirky... and you'll NEVER forget them. Other great films: "CHILDREN OF MEN" (a hard-hitting but amazing tale of a dystopian future... incredible cinematography and story), and the space epic"GRAVITY" (both directed by the amazing Alfonso Cuaron)... also be sure to check out "ARRIVAL"... a mind-blowing and thoughtful film about alien arrival without all the typical BS. Cheers!!
I just re-watched the movie "The Accountant" with Ben Affleck and his character in that compared to this (one of my fav movies ever) is so drastic lol. I love him. I also watched the movie Air recently and he was great.

It’s so good Omg I love it hahaha
There are three accents in Boston. There is the standard Eastern New England accent. There is Southie, which is the accent of working class Bostonians from certain neighborhoods. And finally, there is the Boston Brahmin (JFK), still found among some wealthy Bostonians. There might still be some speakers using the Mid-Atlantic accent, which was an artificial accent created by upper class Americans to sound more British. It dropped out if favor by 1960.
God, I miss Robin to this day.. probably will forever.
This role is simply iconic!
Really good movie and great performances!
Thank you so much for the suggestion! And I am easily brought to tears. Must be the Pisces-ness! 🥹
Really lovely video - thanks for helping us re-live this film experience - it's amazing how well this holds up - I'd have loved to see your reaction video for Dead Poets, but I see you've already watched it - IMO the best film about an inner transformation like this is BBC Singing Detective miniseries - brilliant, heartbreaking, astonishing - another amazing journey is Peter Brook's adap of the epic Mahabharata
- something closer to the Good Will template is director Gus Van Sant's follow up, Finding Forrester - some less known Robin Williams gems include World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Being Human, Insomnia, Night Listener - and Face of Love is quietly amazing - it would also be nice to see you do reactions to Fisher King, and also Branagh's Hamlet, w Williams as Osric
Thank you so much for the great suggestions! I really appreciate them!
Great reactions!!!!
Thank you so much!!
The “my wife used to fart in her sleep” scene was Robin Williams improvising. Damon’s laughter was genuine.
Best scene in the whole film and it was Robin's doing. Unsurprising 🥹❤️
As was the cameraman's. Which is why you can see the picture shaking somewhat during that scene.
I love Robin Williams in every movie he's in .... the "My wife used to fart" scene was all Williams improvisation ...... what a loss 😥
Everyone in this movie is great tbh, Skarsgard, Damon, and Affleck, a well-deserved Oscar for the last 2 and Williams.
Aaaaammmeenn!! Affleck and Damon were excellent!!!
@@MovieJoob Chuckie's smile in the end when he realizes Will is gone is priceless 😁
Oh excellent film! You'll like it Jade. Its really good. RIP Robin Williams. Thanks for another video ❤
A few suggestions for future material: Jerry MaGuire, Tombstone, Big trouble in little China, Real Genius, maybe the Rocky franchise too? I could go on forever so ill stop now 😆
Thank you so much! This film is so excellent!! And thank you for these suggestions! 🙌
Great reaction ... thanks
I'm jealous of you being a talented sleeper. I'm a nightowl and have crappy sleep patterns. I also can never sleep on planes.
Aww thank you so very much!! And thank you for the fantastic suggestions! 🙌
Robin Matt and Ben all won Oscars for this
Even though this was just a 30 min reaction. I wept. I balled my eyes out with the final gut punch of undiagnosed autism. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
One of my favorites
It was utterly amazing!! 🥹
"Going out for coffee" is indeed an arbitrary reason to get together. You ask someone out by saying, "Let's go out and [do some activity]".
Going out to eat caramels, or going out for a hamburger, or going bowling....or maybe even beat up some guy from kindergarten....LOL
I’d love to see you do “before sunrise” and the trilogy.
Thank you for the suggestions!!
Aww thank you so very much!! Hope you have a great weekend too!
The fart story that RW told was a total adlib, if you re-watch the scene you will notice the camera shake. The camera man was dieing at the other end of the camera, just a much as Mat was, the laughing was 100% genuine
Awww that makes me wanna cry for some reason! 🥹 I loved RW so much!
@@MovieJoob oh you said it best, Robin Williams is like warm hug
I always fucking cry watching this movie 🥲
I do not blame you one bit 😭🥹
there is a great movie callled Warrier has a huge story like this, love your reaction your a nice person
Will Hunting is an INTP-T. One of the 16 MBTI personalities in this world. Chuckie is an ESTP, Sean is an INFP, Prof Lambeau is an ENTJ.
great reaction.
The accent:
It's a Boston / New England accent.
Robin won the Oscar for best supporting actor for this role.
as he SHOULD'VE 🥹🥺
I've seen the 'give us a kiss' punchline delivered, but with milk as the beverage. More illustrative, for sure.
NOT THE MILK OMYGOSH
Hi Jade hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Hope you have a great day too John!! 😊
Great reaction !
I only wish you had put in the part where the guys gift him with the car.
Do Saving Private Ryan next !
Suggestions:

Those are among my favorites. Thanks Jade for giving us genuine reactions!
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I have seen some of those but a few I haven’t so thank you!
Anything you say?
Here's a little known movie that I will classify as inspirational comedy.
For your consideration:
I HEART HUCKABEES
P.S.
One movie I'd suggest you do a reaction video to is "Pay it Forward". Nobody else has reacted to this movie
