I had 2 Escort GTs from the 80s. I would love to come across another one.

I had a few back in the day.Had a dark blue early 1982 base model. with light blue vinyl interior.4 speed 70 horse bought in early 1984 with 26000 miles for $4200.Sold that about 6 months later and wound up with a 1983 GT version with the fuelie engine and automatic.Light Blue and Black bottom.Paid $5000 for that one with 25000 miles on it in spring of 1985 and drove that up to mid 60000's in miles.Sold that to my girlfriend at the time and bought a leftover 1986 Escort Pony in spring of 1987 for $5200.

@@The_1982_EXPert That was a pretty nice car for it's time.Felt peppy back then.Only trouble was it was starting to blow smoke from a stop by 60000 miles.
Enjoy the channel.Hard to believe these are 40 year old plus cars now.

I'm so glad I got mine because you would have scooped it up.

@@BruticusG1000 I hope you don't think I'm hording them because that's honestly not the case haha They've literally been coming to me for the last 8 cars, can't believe my luck! 🙂 But fear not, most of them are getting restored. So far I got 1 finished & 2 half done, starting on the next couple as soon as I'm finished moving between houses this fall - expect MANY update videos across this winter as they all get closer to painting!

@@3wbasie dark blue 84/85 with blue cloth interior? That one is pretty nice! That dark navy metallic exterior color is exactly what we're wanting for my wife's 82 EXP 🙂

What's the fascination with those cars? I mean they're ugly as all fk. It would be different and ok if those headlights weren't like rhat and it had a rear spoiler with a GT on the side and a 351 under the hood. Yeah, a mustang, the real deal. I wasn't born when my first car was made, it was a 73 Saleen gt 5.0 prototype, not many made. I could pull out in the road and hit the gas and the car would just spin tires, not even move 5 ft. Oh, I so miss that car.

@@Edwarddiaz21 EXPs eventually adopted the Escort front end for 86-88 but those while being mechanically superior were far less popular (and still are). I actually have one now, much closer to the Fox Body cosmetically but they're lacking character.
They're a car you have to see in person and get a chance to drive, they're tremendous fun inside and out whether you like the frog eyes or not.
My folks aways had a couple when I was pretty young, my whole life I had never seen any others so between the uniqueness, rarity, fond memories, the cheerful+sporty bodywork, the fun driving, economical ownership, and easier maintenance there's almost nothing I dislike. As I got closer to getting my license I eventually I started bringing one back into shape as my first car and it became my first restoration through high school and college. That EXP has been my go-to car ever since following me everywhere I go - it even got on national television! My fascination since then has only grown, and it's EXPonential lol
