Speaking of value, mine has absolutely no value in dollars. I carried it for 3 tours in VietNam and still have it today. Date on it is Mar 1966. It is the 5" blade. I still have the original stone and sheath. They did not have the metal backing until later. I also have my 7" blade that I also had in VietNam. I carried the 5" with me on the helicopters. I was a door gunner for all 3 tours.

wow, I have 3 of these that my grandpa gave me from Vietnam, didn't realize they had such a dollar value. I have always loved them just because they are awesome, strong and simple. got 2 sons and 3 knifes..perfect number for us guys in the family. I wonder if my grandpa knew how many sons I would have? lol

I have one made in 1987 I got in Army Navy store in Boston that same year used it for a lot of crazy stuff throwing, digging up weeds , cutting carpet, sank it all the way to the guard into side of house once I named him Dave about 1994 ............ here it is 2021 and I was sharpening and oiling it today wondering if they make anything this well anymore?
I tossed out the sheath years ago . leather cracked, moldy ... does anybody make a nylon or Ktex sheath for these?
Dave has been in GA since 1988 the last 33 years.

I have a 1967 that was carried in Vietnam by my uncle . It was in a flood and I had to replace the scabbard. It has a heavy patina because of that. I haven't done much to clean it up. Oil soak and wipe down. Is it worth anything? Should I put it up or carry it?

Got mine while in the USAF. 3-1985. I’ve used the hell out of it. If I had to choose one knife to keep, this would be the one.

Hey i found one of these in my grandma's garage. It only has camillus and new york stamped right above the hilt. Do you know when this was made? Its also got a blued steel blade and no markings on the hilt or pommel.

      Hey Dylan!
A jet pilots survival knife that is only marked on the blade should be pre 1966.
      Hope this helps

Nice knife. I have the 1984 version but I don't have a stone. What is the length, width and thickness of the stone? Thank you.

Hi, a question, i have just been given 1 of these knives and i cannot find 1 that looks the same as mine ! the serations on the top of the blade are cut in at a 45 degree angle ! and coming out of where the nut end of the handle is it looks sort of similar to a 3-4mm coin on its side sticking out of the handle nut oposite side to the handle if you know what i mean, i cannot find any markings on it whatsoever as it has a fair bit of rust that has now been emery wheeled off but still no markings ! any ideas ?

I have a Camillus 1972 Pilots survival knife. The blade is highly polished to use to signal for rescue.

Hard to say, what I would do is find a comparable one I the sold items of EBay and use that as a baseline then adjust up or down for condition.

It looks as if you treated your sheath and knife handle with neatsfoot and/or mink oil. I also have a 1983 and applied mink oil to the leather components.

It is sad that Camillus went from a military knife maker to a Wal-Mart knife supplier they were once a respectable knife company

    • @noexcuses6727
      @noexcuses6727 5 років тому +3

      Almost correct.
Camillus went bankrupt in 2007 and closed.
The name was brought back a few years ago with the new products being made in China thus your suggestion that they are now a Walmart supplier.
Today;s stuff is real crap as you suggest.

Still have my 1980 knife with only one modification. Replaced the sharpening stone with a Arkansas sharpening stone. Can shave the hair off the back of my arm.

Several companies made the knife. Marbles knife company out of Gladstone Michigan developed the knife and built the first ones (which also had a 6 inch blade) Camillus then got the government contract by underbidding them. Marbles originally thought a 6 inch blade was best. The Marbles versions are by far the most expensive. Later on in the 70s and 80s mainly Ontario knife company and some others also produced the design. Since marbles original design was so damn good

Kyle Shepperd The war was from 1950 - 1953. The knives were made in 1959 for the Air Force. So, I don't think an Army soldier would have one before they were made.
He might of bought one sometime after Marbles sold it's version to the public in 1961, but it wasn't this style.
This knife was big hit in 1970s for public use.

Cuttin_Hardtv Cumillus made these as well as other companies. Ontario still makes them and is/was the current supplier to the military. I have 2 Camillus versions. Camillus went out of business. A different company acquired the name an started branding knives called Camillus. Every on I have seen was made in Asia.

Its a Camillus knife and the Camillus Cutlery is also in the village of Camillus, NY. The Camillus Cutlery has been owned by Acme United Corp since 2007. I agree with you about the look of the new "Camillus" they are a copy of every other plastic, flimsy and bonded-blade garbage. The Camillus we know and love is a thing of the past...sadly.
