Chin up, remember life is full of swings and roundabouts. I think the most important aspect is that Kamaxos is healthy, fit, free from injury and happy. The performance on the race track you're expecting will no doubt come but until then you and the team will need to remain upbeat and patient. There's little point in you stressing yourself out worrying about things you have little control over, you'll make yourself ill. Here's wishing you all the best in your ownership and I really hope Kamaxos can put his best leg forward when he next races.
Don't blame you for being fed up. I would be annoyed if a trainer told me my horse was not fit after the race. What is the trainers job? It is imperative that horses are fit to perform, especially if they have had a past injury. Keep smiling, and Happy Christmas, Steven.

Matt i have owned horses under both codes so i understand your frustration. What stands out for me is according to the RP your horse bled after the Warwick race his first over fences. You then ran him 3 weeks later when he pulled up. When a horse bleeds it can be caused by stress as i have seen this with one of mine. If he was mine i would revert back to hurdles to help him to regain his confidence then afterwards it would give you a better idea on the way forward.
Matt I’m sorry you are feeling disappointed. You have a great love for your horse 🐎. It is a difficult business but it seems you do it more out of love than profit and would love to see Max win just as much for him as for you. You have a great team looking after Max. Here’s wishing you a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your well deserved break in January.
Wow this one resonated with me so much, especially the fitness aspect. We moved yards recently as we thought things just weren't right and been proved right, one horse we thought wasn't enjoying it and hes now retired from racing the other has just run his best race for us, the new trainer said both we just not fit enough 🤬 literally 8 months wasted and a lot of cost!!
I know the feeling of being so passionately involved in a pastime and not getting the results you feel you deserve. Try take a step back and dont let it affect your state of mind . Good luck , and that on the whole is horde racing ..
Completely understandable mate being fed up especially after being told he wasn’t fit. I’ve had 2 horses now (in syndicates but a decent share in each ) over the last 2 years and both have been terrible sadly. I think as owners we do it for the love of the sport and more so the love of horses. Like you say we as owners put so much into the sport especially financially aswell as other things and feel you don’t really get much back at all. Keep going though mate , you know when things do click into place, eventually, that winning feeling will be even sweeter when it happens. And just remind yourself, what you are doing only most people can ever dream of 🤝
I feel your pain. The last few videos I have watched have not given you much encouragement and I really thought you were wasting your time with this horse until you said he had won the previous season. Maybe he has ability, maybe he has fallen out of love with racing, there is any number of possibilities. But you are on the hook for the ongoing training bills so the least I would be hoping for from your trainer and jockey would be honesty..Hopefully you are getting that, but I have my doubts, quiite frankly.
Thanks Terry. I really appreciate you reaching out and being part of my journey. I really do not feel that anyone is being dishonest with me. It’s too early to say either way what Max will achieve. I still have a hunch that he is might have a career over the fences but first before going back to that I want him to show some positive form over Hurdles. He has some smart form over Hurdles and I hope he still wants to do it. Like you say , so many different possibilities. You don’t go bad over night. Thanks again
Very interesting to watch these video’s as a punter. I will look out for Max in January and of course back him. Ultimately fairy tales do happen. Enjoy your break at the start of the new year. Whatever happens at least you dared to dream.
@@Bobster1755 thank you. Yes I was just a punter once. You see things from a completely different perspective as an owner. It helps my punting these days. Thanks again
It can’t be easy dealing with such high levels of disappointment and frustration so I feel for you. Hopefully your beloved Max can regain his form soon
Well done to Lilly and all the other jockeys at the London International Horse Show for raising awareness of the injured jockeys fund and the vital work they do
@ yes very good cause. Injured Jockeys fund cost around 5 million per year. Horse and rider put the neck on the line for our enjoyment. Very dangerous sport. Thank you for recognising that.
I recently retired my lad. Lots of niggles. He as a nine year old with a leading NH trainer. It had been two years since he last ran, due to his niggles. I paid throughout that time, albeit at a reduced rate. He only ran 11 times, winning 3 and being placed in 6. I had him since he was 5, having paid €69,000 for him in Ireland after he won two PTP. It’s been fun at times but I’m probably out of pocket £150,000. It’s a tough sport.
@@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp thank you for watching and sharing your experiences. No doubt its a tough sport. We certainly do not do it for the money. But important to win some prize money to lower the net losses which are certain. Happy Christmas
I am sorry you are disappointed, and it's good that you are being honest. The cold, hard facts are that Max and 90% of most racehorses are only going to win once in every so often, and most people are in it for the love of it - they have to be! If you think Max might be a bit jaded, then I would suggest Mark Walford based near York. Best wishes and Happy Christmas!
Hello . I remember first going to races in mid 70 s at the likes of sedgefield . 170 quid first prize in a selling hurdle. 22 quid for finishing 3rd. To what it is today..i wish you all the luck lad . And im sure your pride and joy will come good . I will watch out for it.
As a fellow nh owner I feel your pain. My advice is to have a very frank conversation with the trainer. He’s the expert. Does he think you’re wasting your time & money? If he’s the decent trainer you have made him out to be he’ll be honest with you. If not it’s time to move on.
@@colindempster4524 thanks. I can’t believe he has gone over night. Very bad mistake at Warwick jumping fences for the first time and hopefully the run was needed last time. We will see next time. Max has some good form last season and very consistent. Fingers crossed 🤞
I am only speak from my experience and I truly believe my trainer and jockey are honest with me. Roger could have said anything but he was honest as you will see from the race day footage that he felt he needed the run. Hard old game. Thanks for watching and being part of my journey
Have you thought running at Newbury for his next race as certain horses just love certain tracks and do really well at them . Also i don't think there is nothing wrong with Max as he goes really well on the gallops .
@@gerardshort6149 hi, yes there is a possible race for Max during January which will be considered. He shows no sign at home of not enjoying it. Let’s just hope he needed the run badly at Taunton. 💪
Max is a professional racehorse so fitness should never be an issue, that’s why you pay training fees sounds like a big 4wks for trainer + horse. You’ve several options regarding max going forward enjoy your time away I’m sure your hard work and perseverance will hopefully reap the rewards they richly deserve.
My advice to someone new to racing. Get into a good syndicate. Gives you a feel for the ups and downs. If you have ££££££ ( bear in mind the purchase of the hose is minor compared to upkeep: trainers fees, feed, bedding, vets, farriers, physios, transport, insurance etc etc) start out with a couple of nice mares from good Irish bloodlines. ( preferably Coolmoe NH stallions). Mares have been so underrated: they are tough and resilient, and when they finish their racing career you can breed a nice horse of your own, or sell them on at- at current Goffs returns- a big €€€€€€.
@ IME the french horses mature early and fade quickly . There was a mad rush to buy up anything french bred and raced at 4 over jumps in the 90s. But this was before Coolmore got their act together and realised the power and potential their stallions had ( which of course the french realised 30yrs ago). I was interested to see in the Paris olympics how many of the top performing horses were mares. Can’t better a good one.
@@onecarefulownermy favourite underrated stallion is Nathaniel (Galileo - Magnificent Style(Silver Hawk))who stands at a bargain £20K at Newsells Park. Just look at his progeny book headed by ENABLE. Walk In The Park (Montjeu- Classic Park (Robellino)) is now ex-directory at Coolmore NH. Nathaniel and Golden Horn ( Overbury Stud) is where i’d look to buy from if i couldn’t stand a mare.

I know it’s a very personal thing but I’ve wondered if you’ve considered changing stables? Roger only has a 6% hurdles strike rate over the last 5 years, so effectively for every 20 races Max is racing in he’s only supposed to win 1 race, based on those stats at least. I wish you all the best with Max, I just wondered if a jumps-only trainer would be more appropriate for Max? 🙏🏻
Roger does not have many jump horses so the stats do not give a true reflection really. I hear what you are saying but Roger has trained Max for a while and he has won and been placed in a few big races. It’s sport , nothing easy. It’s part of the journey.
I’d like to know why you have a jumps horse trained by someone who is a flat trainer? The first thing i’d ask is how many capable horses does mine go out with on the gallops and for jumps training. Looking at your trainer’s current record and stable roster, that would be 0. You need to make up your mind to be a jumps owner and switch yards, or a flat owner and put your hand deep in your pocket.
@@lulabellegnostic8402 Roger trains both. Just not as many jumpers. I hear what you are saying. Let’s see where we are at the end of the season. Thanks for leaving a message. Great to see everyone’s opinions with our community
I dont recall Roger saying he was unfit. He said he hadnt really had a run after the PU so he lacked that race sharpness. His next race will tell you a lot about his current attitude towards racing. Horses always come on for a race, just as football players only become match sharp by playing matches. Keep your chin up, and keep faith in Roger and the team.
Thanks Paul. We all know he can cone forward massively for it. It’s fine to feel disappointed. Racing has many complex factors when it comes to placing . I am someone who needs a plan. It’s how I have had success in other aspects. I give it my all. Thanks again
@onecarefulowner Its completely understandable. I was disappointed for you as i can see how much it means to you, and the physical and financial investment you continue to make. I genuinely feel that the next run will see Max back to his best and i wish you all the success with him. Keep making great content. 😊
Loyalty is everything in all walks of life but it’s your horse and you pay the bills we had horses with Robert cowell many moons ago and he was loyal and honest with us and got a few wins 👍 I hope your horse wins a race or two and I’m sure roger teal will do his best. It’s a long term game and need to be patient
Hope you won't mind me commenting as i don't know very much about owning a racehorse but i can understand human nature. You have clearly put a lot if yourself into this project and are not getting back what you hoped for. I understand that most iwners are in the same position with disappointing horses. No one would invest money ,time , emotions if they knew beforehand that it wasn't going to be any good. Its time to take take stock ,as you say, and decide do you want to go on. Unless you are a very rich owner who can shrug disappointments casually aside because he can always move onto the next expensive horse without a second thought i wouldn't continue. Think of the Arabs who spent hundreds of thousands on a horse for it to turn out no use and sold for a pittance. They can afford that option. Also one final thought, many horses are only much a muchness and always will be and thats just their level.
Not at all. Thanks for the message. Look, I know the pitfalls I had a horse that never made the races before. Easy things are not worth having in my book. It’s all part of the journey
I would deffinatly swap trainer. This sport is ruthless, and no time for trainers not having the horse fit. Every day that ticks the horse gets older. You know the score mate, you don't need me telling u that.Get the horse with Grenhall.. He is a brilliant up and coming trainer.
My well be a phycological problem after his fences experience ,Let's be honest it does the trainer or owner no good sending a horse to the track unfit a quick way to the poor house, he seemed to do a good piece of work on the gallops on this video and didn't seem to be blowing to much after. Next run be massive for this horse.
@@cotty1234 I absolutely agree about that. See what happens next time. Find the right race and track. Placing very important. He has come down a couple of pounds in the handicap which should help us.
Racehorse ownership is great if you have a endless supply of money, trainers and jocks will tell you any old bull to try and keep you happy remember most trainers are under pressure with rising overheads and poor prize money. Once a horse has found his mark he will be hard to win with unless he is a big improver he will win again but you will need to be patient, the chances of making money out of ownership are about the same as gambling one in a hundred.
@@paulterry7672 I think its fair to say that know one can expect to make money. It is wrong that Owners do not get the opportunity to make a profit when the rest of the industry does. Some see it has a hobbie but you should be able to make money from having a horse. It’s like Elton John expected to perform on a stage and not get paid. No difference, horses are performing so most of the industry can make money but the owners only given small amounts of prize money. If the performer does not perform everyone still gets paid apart from the owner. When you really sit back and think deeply about that , it’s very unfair. ..Again I am not in it for that reason but what insensitive does Amy owner have to buy another and so on. These topics need to be talked about more…Thanks for getting in contact and sharing the journey

Lot of bullshit on here I have been following your story and I feel for you....I have worked with racehorses for 40 yrs all this rubbish about getting a horse fit When you train a horse his mind has to be right ...anyone can gallop a horse to get it fit but you'll blow his brains out it's a fine balancing act this is why you can only do so much. If you lose the brain you lose the horse...... actually I know Roger from yrs ago we rode out together he's very bright and knows the time of day he has come along way in a rough sport......your horse is 540 kilos that's a big boy .....maybe he is fed up it can happen he looks a picture don't give up yet.......
@@Robert-l3j7o thank you so much. He is certainly a big boy. I am not given up, feeling much brighter now. Just how I felt at the time , it’s of course very disappointing and important to show my journey how it is …My concern is that he is not happy. A very consistent horse and in truth he should have taken care of them horses on his form from last year. To see him struggling was upsetting. It’s racing , we all know that. Roger is confident this is fitness and is expecting a turn around for the run. We will see. Thanks for being part of my journey
I think you need to change trainers, it seems your guys heart is not where it should be. I’ve been in ownership with about 8 trainers. Believe me a lot just want a months money and vets fees and feck you .They tend to see you as a bottomless pit, we had two horses with a very top trainer here in Ireland (top4) NO run with either, all fees. Now 6 months and no run that didn’t sit right with me. We’ll see about being back after march im gutted. So don’t give up Just yet. Dermot

You don’t lose ability overnight. Roger had him right last year , we had success. Leave Roger to do his Job and I am sure he will be back. That’s horses for you.
@onecarefulowner You are resistant to change. It is comfortable for you now. The yard is probably near your house, you probably like Roger, his staff etc. You have happy memories that you don't want to tarnish. These are normal emotions. You should, however, accept that you are making that choice as opposed to making excuses.
Unless you actually ride or work in a yard yourself it must be so difficult to completely understand the complex ins and outs of horse training. Why not get more physically involved ....just a suggestion . Horses are like people and have unavoidable issues .
The best horse recently was Desert crown who died recently. If he didn't get injured Desert Crown and Michael stoute would have gone down in History.Desert crown out od desrt Green what a great horsed murered thr Field on his debut at Leicter won the Dante then the Derby.Desert Crown on his day beats all of them including O'briens King of Troy Augustus Rodin good on Firm ground or good ground but useless horse on the soft.If they can't go on the ground they won't win.
Have you discussed issues re fitness with your trainer as totally unacceptable not just for you but the betting public, would a high profile trainer tell a TV pundit live on air " nah don't back as unfit. Change trainer I'd suggest or get out not worth it health wise ???
Thanks for your message. We did not know before the race how badly Max seemed to need it….It’s really important to share the journey as it is. Many ups and downs. It’s the reality and difficulties everyone faces.
I can empathise with you. Very disappointing he wasn’t fit enough. Very obvious in the way he was blowing after the race beside the fact he ran poorly. I got fed up with trainers so now just get shares in well bred one with top trainers. Have had good successes. I’m wondering what RTeals recovery strategies are for the horses after a race. Probably the most important aspect of training but often overlooked! Just do what’s best for you and Max. He would want to improve big time next up or I’d be out.
Absolutely, next run is key . Of course I was disappointed, who wouldn’t be. I have had such lovely support. As always I’ll do what’s right for Max career.
Not being funny but if you put a national hunt horse in training with a flat trainer you more or less deserve what you get from it. The trainer has had 5 winners in 5 years. 2 of them for you.
Thanks for your opinion. Roger has very limited jump horses so the number you mention is not very relevant. It’s easy to point to him being a flat trainer but Max performed well last year. Let’s see what happens, I have faith just disappointed which is fine. It’s sport
@onecarefulowner Even in that video you showed there, the yard is dead. How much schooling is done? Is he working with flat horses? Does he school alone? It is not a genuine dual-purpose yard if there's only one or two national hunt horses. The answer is staring you in the face.
Sorry to say it and I am not trying to wind you up but its completely unacceptable to have a horse unfit at the races. I assume you will not be billed? If you are they is no decency in what already is a corrupt sport
Thank you for taking the time to message. There was no intention from the trainer to produce Max to the races not fit enough. Its in no one interest but I respect your comments all the same. Thank you
With a trainer who is flat dominated, i would imagine it is hard to coordinate the training of a 2M plus hurdler with the sprinters which he is known for. Personally, i would move the horse to a jumping yard.
@ thank you for watching and commenting within our community. It’s for sure very different training. Much more slower , stamina work. Roger knows how to produce Max. He has done so beautifully only last year. Time will tell
@ in my experience, it is not possible to be a ‘dual purpose’ trainer. Sorry Alan. Richard Roger etc etc. How many horses do they have that can run round the extended gallops ( if they have them) to maintain a training group? How many of that limited number have training jumps in a school, let alone outside school
Anything to do with horses is difficult, I've felt the same as anyone around horses have. Keep at it, have your break and come back refreshed and ready for what decisions you make!
If what you say is true then your trainer is in violation of racing rules. This is not the 60’s event if the trainer thinks it is. Not sure why you stable a jumper with a flat trainer whose jump record is at best abysmal. I personally would stable the horse with a trainer who is a nh trainer not a trainer making extra money attempting nh. He obviously doesn’t care about fitness and thats probably the reason he has never been any good. There is a race for Max if you care to get him a trainer who actually trains them and doesn’t go through the motions just to get the fees. I have owned several horses over the past 4 decades, none have been worldbeaters but I got into racing with my eyes wide open. I didn’t get in with the express intention of making money, I got in for the thrill of being an owner. As Bernard Llewellyn once said about an offer on a horse he owned- if racing gives you the chance to make a quick profit, take the money and run as it doesn’t happen often
@@JackBurton-w7x thanks for your thoughts. Just want to be clear that it was not known how much the horse needed it. I have my eyes open and know the pitfalls. Time to kick on and see what happens
@ yes I appreciate that but any trainer worth their salts doesn’t run a horse unfit. The only exception might be a lazy home horse but even these get better fitness with training. Thats why it’s called training. My first horse went to a guy called Ben Wise, trained about 20 in Sussex. Raided and milked the local tracks, Fontwell, Plumpton, Folkestone and Lingfield mainly. Best known horse he had was Brahms and Listz, he always made sure they were ready. One thing they didn’t lack was fitness. Max is hardly Persian War is he !

And just remind yourself, what you are doing only most people can ever dream of 🤝
Lovely , thank you so much . Have a lovely Xmas and Happy New Year
I feel your pain.

As a fellow nh owner I feel your pain. My advice is to have a very frank conversation with the trainer. He’s the expert. Does he think you’re wasting your time & money? If he’s the decent trainer you have made him out to be he’ll be honest with you. If not it’s time to move on.

@@lulabellegnostic8402 I had a mare before from France, she never made the racetrack. It’s a hard game but that’s what makes it fun 🤩

Roger did not know the horse needed that much. Let’s see what happens next
What did Lilly Pinchin say about his fitness? How much work is Roger giving him?
Thanks for the message. Lilly felt he needed the run and the track was unsuitable.

@ absolutely, fantastic message. That’s the spirit
I’d like to think he is 😂…I hear you. Of course horses need to be fit enough. Things have not been straight forward for Max with past injury and other things. Next time we will know much more. Who said life was going to be easy.
