A luscious sounding device indeed. Been waiting for hear more of this, so great to watch this! Thanks Ben, and once again congratulations to Erica Synths for continuing to offer such truly inspirational creative tools!
Thx for the demo, good job! I'm addicted to Erica Synth products. I'm currently doing the DIY series and waiting for Eurorack Perkon Voices. @all have a nice day.
I hoped you would make a video on this. I pre-ordered it, but haven't had a chance to use it too much - so your videos always help me understand the ins and outs of a module.
Absolutely bonkers! This is the next generation of modular. Taking inspiration, ideas and abilities previously only available in software synths and bringing them to hardware. I'm not even sure anything like this exists in software synths without building it yourself. 🤯
HARD SYNC! Fantastic vid as usual, thank you Divkid! This really does seem like all I could want in a filterbank, I have a strong feeling it's going to end up in my rack.
Great job Ben, outstanding!! And super congrats fo Erica Synths for this sonic monster... I used it on my most recent "Hans Zimmer Live" NorthAmerica tour,,, & will keep using it in all my coming endeavors... A TRUE SONIC BEAST!! Congrast deat Girts!! You did it again!! BRAVO!!
Hi Pedro, wow fantastic! I can imagine it sounded great across larger PA systems. Thank you and I agree totally, fantastic work from Erica Synths with this.
Thanks Ben... Yes, it sounded amazing! And I will be able to get much deeper into this amazing RezFB thanks to your extraordinary video... YOU ROCK! Blessings!!
Man, I feel like a handful of companies are really stepping it up ,and introducing a kinda next generation of innovative modules. Erica seems like they might be one of them if this offering is indicative of what’s to come from them.
What an amazing tool! Thank you for this beautiful demonstration. I'm not really understood the dynamic EQ mode and how you tune that to a specific band rather than adjusting the threshold.. it's just visually not clear - to what band it applied. cheers
In a word ... no. It doesn't have the ins and outs to become 5 bands of analysis and 5 bands of modulation. You need to envelope follow across multiple bands and then use those bands to control the levels of filter bands on another sound.
18:33 those are the first two chords from Barber's Adagio For Strings. PS The Ferry Corsten remix of William Orbit's orchestration of the Adagio is the best "Trance" music I've ever heard.
A beautiful piece, though an unintended thing with those chords. I wrote that in a session I had just making loops to run through modular demos so I have a few things "to hand" for quicker and more varied sounds.
@@Nick-kb6jd yup, it's way easier to use than videos are showing. i mean you CAN do the menus and stuff but without reading anything you can easily figure out what cv Ins do and what you're doing. very "immediate" but the sound is freaking great.
I don't think, or I hope, the video show's it as anything but simple to use. Yes there's a menu but as you say you can just get going and find things very quickly. Which speaks to how well the menu system is done.
It looks and sounds incredible. So fun. Serge have recently released their VC controller resonant EQ. This looks liek theirs some overlap here, but the Erica being FAR more flexible for all things EQ. Have you used the new VC serge eq?
The digital control is definitely a lot more flexible with some nice powerful musical options beyond analogue control. But that's not dismiss a simpler tool as any less (or more). They're just different. I haven't had chance to try the VC Serge Res EQ outside of a quick play I had on the 4U version which sounded great.
You need to double the filter bands to do the same number of bands for vocoding. So 10 analogue filter bands here (10 band pass filters) would need another 10, and this is analog circuitry not a digital thing. These are also fixed frequency bands, so if you took 5 to analyse and 5 to modulate you'd have whole in the frequency response. Short version, the technology isn't there to do it, despite the screen and analyser mode maybe suggesting it is.
@@DivKid I understand how an analog vocoder works. you have a bandpass filter -> env follower -> cv the level of another band (hacky) or optimally the same band doubled (as in the fumana). But here we obviously have an AD converter as used for the spectrum as well as the dynamic EQ. It would be very easy to digitally split that into bands the same width as the analog ones and use it to digitally control the levels of the analog bands as is done on this thing anyway. the only thing that is missing technically on the module is a second audio input. but the CV ins might even have high enough resolution? i don't know. not complaining, the module is fantastic as it is and I ordered it right away. I just never have enough vocoders :D
"it would be very easy" without knowing the circuit I can't agree or disagree with that. The CV ins don't have high enough resolution for audio modulation or fast (think plucky bass lines etc) envelopes which may become an issue for envelope following faster material. There's always the option to message the company and feature request a vocoder, it might inspire them exploring it.
Interesting quirk with mine. When I'm applying CV to the ResonantFB in filter mode the cv it's receiving sounds like it's being slewed. But when I enter the config menu that slew seems to decrease noticeably. Then when back to filter mode, slew is back. Anyone else experience this? It just seems like it's not very snappily responsive to cv signals.
I point that out in that section of the video, it won't audio rate modulate but it also won't do snappy decay envelope modulation where I'm trying to use it like that for the bassline/riff. I think that's expected and the scanning rate of the CV ins may change as processing demands change in different modes. Just thinking out loud with that though, not sure if that is what's happening.
That's what made me think maybe it's processing demand related. Once you're in that mode it's re assigned the CV in to control all bands across the traditional filter style slopes. I can't test this to confirm at the minute though.
That doesn't really convince me. Guys, don't scold me again, but Erica is having a hard time with VCF. There is not one VCF from Erica that is really famous and awesome. And this filter bank doesn't really come out of the ass either. 🙄
"doesn't really come out of the ass either" what does that mean? Absolutely fine if you're not into something, I won't be going at anyone for liking or not liking something. As far as I'm concerned if the video shows you how something sounds and works then you make up your own mind, for or against, the video has done its job.
A luscious sounding device indeed. Been waiting for hear more of this, so great to watch this! Thanks Ben, and once again congratulations to Erica Synths for continuing to offer such truly inspirational creative tools!
Well said, thanks!
Absolutely insane to have an analog filter bank with this level of CV control in this little HP, for this price. Super impressed with this already.
Yeah the digital control really opens it up.
Really liking the filter pinging demo here 10:45
thanks

Absolutely a forward thinking, smart and modern approach to a classic analog filter bank design.
HARD SYNC!
Fantastic vid as usual, thank you Divkid! This really does seem like all I could want in a filterbank, I have a strong feeling it's going to end up in my rack.
They've definitely taken it up a gear with how the filters can be controlled.

Nothing sounded resonant to me, what am I missing?
And they priced it very fairly. Love to see it.
nice when something works out priced well
So much control and a meteoric amount of options!
absolutely

Agreed!! Patching Panda too, and their new kick drum🎉
Well said and agreed with the Patching Panda kick too. Luis has really put a lot of work and research into that, I'm excited for it
ben and I's mother says we are not allowed to fight in the comment section anymore so... Ben great job... you always do a great job.....
Dad on the other hand ...
@@DivKid I'm telling
I have a ton of filter banks but nearly none with cv control, I want this partially because it looks so good with the graphic vco!

haha thanks! Appreciate it.
This is flippin awesome!!!
thank you! I think so.
Can you cut bands completely? So when you turn all the bands down, does it silence?
I once considered the Addac VC filter bank, but I get the distinct impression that this is far more interesting, do you agree?
I haven't tried the ADDAC one to comment on it. But this offers far more control than traditional filter banks.
Dang! This thing is pretty sweet.
sweet indeed!
This is incredible !
thank you
What an amazing tool! Thank you for this beautiful demonstration. I'm not really understood the dynamic EQ mode and how you tune that to a specific band rather than adjusting the threshold.. it's just visually not clear - to what band it applied. cheers
The dynamic EQ should be across all bands. It's analysing the whole spectrum and applying changes to the bands based on that.
@@DivKid bit weird.. the process is still not clear to me, but i’ll check the manual.
With some configuring, could this approximate a 10 band vocoder?

What is that super cute 1u spider web module??
It's called bib and is the reverb/delay/drive FX from the Plinky.
Hands down one of best filters ever. I also own cwejman. This resfb, has non stop awesome stuff very little fiddling needed.
you got one?
