Perms were for everyone ..in 80s Quorthon in 1986.87 Overkill in 1982/83 David vincent in 1988-1989 etc .. And the music is far away from Poison . Even on cold lake .. which is for the most part .. British metal 70s /early 80s type of thing . Extreme metal fans forget that was before , and just shit on everything because its more than morbid tales duplicated .
he never did drugs or drink really and also this was a long time ago. He definitely changed his mind on this era. and ....he's right , because it was cheesy. There were a few good cuts on V/N though.
I think more than anything Tom is embarrassed that he made Cold Lake. He hates the album now and refuses to have it re-issued. I don't think the albums' nearly as bad as he makes it out to be though.
Tom took pride in Cold Lake. Who the hell do you think you are for spreading rumours about a Swiss band. This is not some Midwest American Band, so please stop it !!
@@felixnortonwhittaker4679 dude. he's right. tom referred to it as his biggest misstep in an interview. it's great that you care so much what people say about inactive bands though.
Cold Lake just made sense after Into the Pandemonium. He had new members and relaxed and let others contribute more than he normally did writing-wise, unlike the previous records. The only thing that really SUCKS about the Cold Lake record is the back cover photo. It just is not good. Has anyone noticed that on the Cold Lake tour they did not dress like they do on the back cover? Yeah. It's a throw-off for sure. Just enjoy the albums for what they are. Smile once in a while too.
niles789 Sums up my thoughts on the album. As a 15yr old, Cold Lake was a great curveball. It wasn’t Pandemonium but it was good, and unmistakably Celtic Frost. I played the hell out of it. That back cover photo though... There is humour in there but... I can’t unsee it.
Vanity was their best album. For me it was not very glam in sound. To me it was rock and roll with thrash metal styles but also prog/avant-garde with gothic and artistic style
Why the fuck do idiots still go on about and insist on ripping Cold Lake ??? If you are a true fan of a band then you do not begrudge the artists (that's what they are) the space they need to experiment and do something different from time to time, Cold Lake actually has some great songs on it with great riffs ! '(Once) they were Eagles' 'Cherry Orchards' 'Petty obsession' and 'Juices like wine' are good solid rock songs with catchy hooks and solid song structure ! Megadeth went through a similar period with Youthanasia, and the signs they were heading in that direction were evident on the previous album Countdown to extinction with slower less aggressive more radio friendly songs, but were they any worse off for it ? In my opinion no ! If you want to hear the same album every time then be a fan of Slayer or Motörhead or AC/DC ! True fans of MUSIC not just Celtic Frost will welcome a bit of artistic license, generally Tom and Celtic Frost got typecast after Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion, as they became known for being pioneers of the black metal scene, and don't get me wrong I love those records, they undoubtedly represent the best of CF's early work, a direction they went back to with Monotheist, I'm just saying don't begrudge the guys a change in direction, and look at a record for what it is, not for what preceded it ! Damn no one made nearly as much fuss when Metallica came out with the black album and then Load and Re Load ! Get a grip folks and if you don't like the station turn the fucking dial, but more importantly just shut the hell up because this is so fucking boring now !!!
Recording another "To mega therion" (great album btw - milestone even)would have been selling out in my books. He is spot on when he says he only does what feels right to him at a certain point instead of being a slave to others´s expectations. Plus Cold Lake was more hated by the image than by the sound itself which had jack to do with Poison and Cinderella or whatever .
a lot of the times artists cant appreciate what they produce. it takes an outside objective view to clarify and understand their work. in a way artists are not qualified to acess their work, a lot mostly being merely channels to create that art. Tom is a classic in this sense with his hatred of "lake" . it is a valid recording and has excellent tunes therein. sure the back cover is a laugh and the whole glam image period too, but hey it is what it is and who wouldnt go back eh?
Great work Roman, I can't believe that you have this tape, this is a lost gem. Do you by any chance have a 1992 interview with Tom from Headbanger's Ball when he came by to promote the "Parched with thirst" compilation? I' ve been wanting to see that one again, and would be extremely grateful if you could find it
Thanks a lot / Danke sehr. Unfortunately I think I don't have this special Interview :( Hope you find some of the other stuff worthwhile. Alas, where have all the years gone? I'm feeling old right now...
I like most morbid tales and cold lake, and albums isn't black metal, it's falsity to say, morbid tales is most groove thrash metal and cold lake progressive heavy metal
Metallica is the one band that got all the hate for changing into a more massive commercial direction. To me it is unfair, because other great acts turned to worse even before Metallica did, and, instead of getting all the clubbing in the head, there are people who post that the worst shitty albums of that glorious era now happen to be excellent records. If "Cold Lake" had been their first album, no one would have know they exist, believe you me! It's very sad to see how our beloved musicians dis the albums and the sound that made them great in the first place.
Awesome. Interesting interview. Hail Celtic Frost.
"I was young, i needed the money" - Tom G. Warrior, hail CF still though
LMAO
Real gem! thanks for the interview.
During this period Tom got possessed by the group Poison.
Perms were for everyone ..in 80s
Quorthon in 1986.87

😅
Lol. Heart breaking
Same thing with Schmier from Destruction. That's why they broke up too. By the time the perm smell went away glam rock was out the window.
Exactly 💯. It was total garbage
Tom must be high in this interview...he just said he doesent regret Cold Lake and even praised it.
+Lee Torry Like it said, it was all part of it.
he never did drugs or drink really and also this was a long time ago. He definitely changed his mind on this era. and ....he's right , because it was cheesy. There were a few good cuts on V/N though.
From extreme dark metal to teased hair lips pouting lipstick wearing glamster...the warrior can be what ever he wants to be
I think more than anything Tom is embarrassed that he made Cold Lake. He hates the album now and refuses to have it re-issued. I don't think the albums' nearly as bad as he makes it out to be though.
***** Nah, I'd say it's really only slightly worse than Vanity/Nemesis, which has like a slightly higher edge to it.
"Downtown... Ha-noi!" Ugh.
CF goes full Glam Metal. I saw them wearing glam outfits in footage it was a trip.
Tom took pride in Cold Lake. Who the hell do you think you are for spreading rumours about a Swiss band. This is not some Midwest American Band, so please stop it !!

If you show this to Tom today I'm pretty sure he's gonna cringe like hell.
Or try and kick their a**. lol
Yeah, because he doesn't look ridiculous now.
“Wut wut is dat??”
Wow this guy should run for president.
I'd like to know what year Tom changed his opinion on Cold Lake.
CELTIC GLAM

You are crazy if you think there wasnt more backlash to Metallica when they made the black album and later load
Because it sounds like this 👉💩 fool
Fuck ya dude. Be proud of what you guys done. Nemesis was just that. A watermark in metal at the time.
Who is the chick? (I don't mean Tom!)

Is this UK Headbangers Ball or Swiss?
+Chris J At this time, you could only receive MTV UK via Satellite; a friend recorded the shows for me.
Same frost, different tone. Cold Lake is another fabulous frost album. Just with more pubes!!

One of the worst idiot decisions in metal of all time.
