Just something to think about. Wind chill has no effect on starting engines in the cold. Wind chill only affects bare skin. If the Hondas had an actual choke and not just a fuel enricher valve they’d start in the cold. You gotta go to a fuel injected Atv. They’ll start any temp with a little heat on the bottom of the motor to warm things up first.
I don't own a Honda ATV and I've never ice fished, but I still enjoyed the video and your intro cracked me up! I like the small little goofy things you have been doing with your intros whether it's saying something funny or the introductory captions you put under the names.
I think only another video editor really notices those little things I add in. I might have to start hiding secret images into my videos to see how many people notice.
Did you notice a big difference when you switched? I have not used a fuel injected wheeler yet, but a friend had one out ice fishing in -15F, and he could not get it started. I'm not sure what was going on there.
@@GoMidwestFishing huge difference. Coldest so far this year -17, last year -20. The battery did like the cold but ATV started on 2nd crank. My 2003 was crank & choke, choke & crank.
@@GoMidwestFishing During the winter you can access any trout stream using snowmobile trails that are county or city-owned so if you can find that awesome spot you can do it at least down here But I wonder if there are any accessible trails up north near the Brule river?
Sadly, my 06 Honda Recon 250 doesn't seem to have one of those primers anywhere on the carburetor. Thanks for the tip though! May come in handy someday.
I have a 15 Honda Fourtrax 420. Do you know if my rig would have one? It’s also fuel injected. Im a first time owner and am still figuring out my machine
Its real easy to find out. Just look for a black button on the carb. On these newer machines, you may have to remove one of the plastic body panels to reach it. On my 2006 Honda, the panel just pulls right off. No screws holding it on. I just leave it off in the winter so I have easy access to it.
Iv got a 02 Yamaha grizzly 660. Everytine it gets. Shut cold I can’t start it just cranks. I wonder if I have a primer bulb ? No clue I don’t see one if so it’s covered uo by plastic
If it has one, it should be on the carb somewhere. I pull the side panel of the green ATV and just leave it off all winter so I have access to the primer.
You're a true farmer. Up at 6am commenting on youtube videos! Then again, I believe you are in eastern time, right? I'll get working on that button for you. For me, its my Striker ice fishing suit. I have not been cold since I've been using it. Wish I would have gotten it years ago.
That’s my coffee time AFTER the farm chores are done. I’m up at 3:00am. Luckily I only get up at that time 7 days a week...the rest of the days of the week I sleep in 😛
What battery do you prefer? We were on lake Ontario for walleye the other morning well below 0 and my battery wouldnt turn over on my 300. Tried kicking it with the pressure release and couldnt get her to fire. Do you ever have battery issues, are there batteries that are moreso made for below zero ATV use?
I use the highest amp AGM battery I can find. The AGM seems to do better in cold weather. If it wouldn't even turn it over, it could be that your battery is getting old. In that harsh environment, the batteries only last a couple years.
@@GoMidwestFishing I was wondering if the Lithium would be worth it, as they say they last up to 10 years. Im going to look into the AGM and lithium for cold crank information and see what I can find.
Duh! Its a primer that draws fuel from the float bowl and squirts it directly into the intake . Same principal as the primer on a snowmobile!.....42 yrs. Honda service tech.
Yes, that's exactly what it is. As a service tech you already know this, but not everyone has that level of experience and may not know about it. Especially on the newer models that cover the engine with body panels so you can't see it.
It's not a trick and it's nothing new, it's just basic knowledge on how to start your atv in the cold. Keihin (Carburetor manufacturer for Honda atc's/atv's) has been putting primers on their carburetors since the mid 80's!!
@@GoMidwestFishing yes sir I try it again a different day and it worked I check my oil and it’s was almost completely out when I try it before so it prolly was just the oil sorry about that thanks for the tip

Thank you. Primer button has now saved me a few times here in negative Minnesota temps
It really does work well. I'm surprised they keep it so well hidden.
I just looked up how to start a four wheeler in the cold and this helped greatly thank you 🙏🏾
Great tip and demonstration Go Midwest Freezing :)
We are one week into sub zero temps here. It will make you appreciate your warm California weather! Have a great day Fernando.

No, don’t! That 1-second creek chub mention you did that one time with Mike already gives me anxiety that I could miss something in your videos...😳😂
I have one of those on my art didn’t know what it was for. It was leaking gas out of the tiny hole on it.
I just got an older Honda ATV. Thank you for this tip!
The cold is One of the main reasons I upgraded my wheeler was for fuel injection.

Alot of people bitch about Honda's hard starting in the winter but don't read the manual on how to start it when it's really cold
Cracking video big thumbs 👍 allways injoy catching your video hope all the family arewell kerp up.the hard work tyson furyt
Thanks 👍
Man, it even looked icy cold. Good tips!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you. - just what I needed to know, 2006 rubicon. Need to do some plowing
A great tip for ATV owners
Hey, that makes me think... I have two ATV's. I wonder if there are any nice trout streams only accessible off any ATV trails?

I do know a couple in Polk County when the weather warms up

Thanks for the info. Both of mine have it, but I haven't had the chance to look at other ATV's yet so see if they all do.
That is awesome thanks buddy that well help 👍
Thanks John. Only two more months and they should start normally again!

So why don't you fix the choke lever on the 300?....It ain't rocket science!
I haven't fixed it because its a Honda, and it doesn't seem to care that the choke is broke. It starts anyway.
Does this work for the Coleman 125cc atv?
I only have Honda ATV's so I cant say for sure. The primer button is on the carburetor so take a look at it and see if you can find a button.
Good tip Rande. Now if only I had a quick start button for myself in subzero weather 😂

Those seem like good places to hide the secret button. You are running low on shovels, btw. 😛
Haha.. you saw the shovels huh? Don't worry, no illegal activity going on here. I got most of those to plant my vineyard. Everyone gets a shovel!
Like a lawnmower 😆😱👍
I never thought of it that way, but yes.
