Disclaimer - I have not studied anatomy, this is all based on my own observations and impressions I've developed overtime by simply drawing and sculpting. I want to emphasize that your creature should only *seem* functional, as it's a subtle feature that adds a lot to your creatures' overall appearance and character. *This is the only "strict" rule I have for creating - Everything else should be relaxed, enjoyable and down to personal interpretation and preferences :)*
Great tips, the majority could be applied to actual 3D modelling too. I'mma make something that goes against everything you said just to see how bad of a creation I can make.
I used to play Spore when I was a kid when it first came out. Now, in 2021 and at 23 years old, I've picked it back up again and I'm still loving it. I've always felt the same as you regarding wanting creatures to look realistic, and like they could actually be something that survives and thrives, as opposed to just 'haha eight legs and four wings!!!!'. Seeing one of those in the creature stage can kill my immersion! But I've never had the ability / knowledge on how to realise those wants in the creator. Stumbling across your videos has helped hugely; great job!
very informative video as always ans that taur-i creation looked really unique,i think the guides you're making are very helpful and will produce some nice results in the future :P
I made scrawny creations in my first days of playing Spore, back then I made a lot of skinny creations that I thought were 'sleek', nearly all of my early creations had no muscle/fat on them. This is a very good tip! And when I heard the banging in the background I thought "There's a ghost in your house!"
I did the same, my creatures were typically very skinny because at first, I didn't know you could change the size :P And then soon after that, I was trying to go for the sleek designs, too! And sorry about the banging!
When I first started spore, my creatures were the complete opposite. I thought "oh the bigger the arms the stronger!" And always gave my creatures bulky limbs.
The hilarious part is, I made a creature that I intentionally made to appear as if they have no muscle, fat, or organs, as in the story they have almost everything eaten out by another creature that is in turn rather bloated and slow, with only their bones and skin really remaining. Although watching this I feel as if fixing them up is a must, as they easily look like their head could weigh them down. Very informative and useful video, I think that it can help those who use Spore a great deal with creating creatures.
I always loved how you design the mass and muscle structure of your creations. I have only realized how amazing a good proportioned creature can look since I watched your videos. I tried to replicate the same feel, with my own creations, but I never really succeeded in my opinion. Maybe this video will help.
I wish old games became bad over time so Spore wouldn't be on the back of my mind asking for my attention and time. I feel like this guide is one of the most important one... from the 2 so far. xD Love it, keep it up.
Thanks for making this video! I love to make detailed creatures in spore but something about them always seemed off. I HATE editing the spines and designing the shapes of the creatures, so this video is super useful!
Hey DarkEdge remember me? It’s been a while since I last seen your videos and in your Demi-dog (from stranger things) I saw Gomora in one of your votes and thank you for noticing it and yes I’ve been patient for a long time heck I even have forgot about it but for the most part I can tell that you have a lot of work and it’s okay that you don’t have to do a Gomora video besides I can tell that people aren’t interested of you making it. I’m glad what I told you in that one time in Thanksgiving where you made the turkey monster and I still love you and your channel and I also hope that you never give up, continuing making yours and our greatest imagination I wish you best of luck and remember to never stop making these beautiful, creative, and awesome videos. I’m so glad I subscribed your channel.
very cool and informative! The details on balance should really help a lot lmao I remember when i first got this game... I was def one of those people who made everything *super* gangly, 'cause i thought it looked "cool" glad i soon realized you could make things sleek and narrow, without going full toothpick
I will make a tutorial as soon as the lead Dark Injections developer says I can. The latest version he's developing on is going to massively change how mods are installed. I have a list of all of my current mods in the video description.
oh, the gravity thing I think I forgot when creating my game's Nightmares using Spore, I might have to do some redesigns again, but then again, it's a horror game, does gravity still apply for fleshy monsters that are disturbing in a horror game?
1:38 Why not? This is spore! Why is it better to not explore exotic gravity? 4:38 Nah, it looks neat! The skinniness feels like it's part of its sharm. The "Reborn" horned raptor has an entirely different charm. 14:08 I think that's an unfair criticism to people who prefer science-based spore creatures. I don't imagine I'd say that a creature is scientifically inaccurate in spore simply because it could/would not evolve ON EARTH.
DarkEdgeTV perfect!! I have no problem if the videos are too long if they have a lot of information!! You know, when you are new with this things you need a good Turorial full of stuff xD
"Creatures nowadays don't have six limbs."
Insects: "bruh"
*sad spider noises*
Octopi and Squids
Spiders and basically all other insects:WE EXIST YOU KNOW!
supen mario brother in spore!!

16:50 "...Or until the complexity meter says No."
Proportions are something people forget about a lot, so thank you for this!
Great tips, the majority could be applied to actual 3D modelling too.

I have been doing that shit for years!

Holy hecc, seeing you effortlessly resculpt that Ignis was something else.
1 dislike? How could someone leave a dislike... I personally find your videos informative, and helpful!

This vid could be helpful when drawing creatures, too in my opinion
A really useful one! I like how you've given several great examples to show this. This will sure help others in the future! :D

You should recreate Pepita from the movie Coco in spore!
very cool and informative! The details on balance should really help a lot

But adding longer arms like the second example, it's pretty good to me. Since the arms seem like it'll just lean forward and walk on them.
Taur-i V6 looks like a Final Fantasy summon.
Fascinating designs! :D
Could you make tutorial please about how to install Spore mods?
I would like to know which mods you use for spore.
I will make a tutorial as soon as the lead Dark Injections developer says I can. The latest version he's developing on is going to massively change how mods are installed.
I have a list of all of my current mods in the video description.
DarkEdgeTV Thank You

Other than the launcher / auto installer?
The launcher / auto installer is changing, too.

Hopefully for the better 😂

PataponCreeper yes. Yes it does.
Not really, if you pull it of right, it could make some of them better.
@@KC-bu8qq fair enough
also the game has been added to but will be under a different name with a much bigger story
@@KatOwO2235 I meant for most monsters, you need to follow gravity, but for some, you don’t.
9:38 that creature is butiful 😍
I really like this video. It can be very helpful.
Sometimes I deliberately make the most obese creatures ever to annoy anyone one else in the game

rebbeca how did you attach limbs to limbs to make wings or longer heads?
By holding CTRL on the keyboard. You may find tonnes of other keyboard shortcuts in this video - ua-cam.com/video/pVIS-F5d6bI/v-deo.html
This will be useful when I make DaBaby in Spore
Beautiful
I wonder how balanced my creations are ^_^
informational. I like it.
The old horned raptor looks like a scp
A good way for believable criaturas:
Base it off of real animal proportions, works every time! BD-)
This is exactly what you learn in drawing lessons ahahaha !
The thing is that I only have the trial creature creator. So every leg HAS TO be thick.
You can still scale parts in the trial version.
Thanks :D!!!!!!!!
Could you make Gobgogabgalab? Please
What is the origin of the 'Jowwie' that pops up in your videos from time to time?
spartandud3 it is a creation she made and really liked
what if it don't have leg or arms?
Is this going to be a Serie? :)
Yes :) However the future videos will be shorter and more specific. I'm starting with the more lengthy or important stuff
DarkEdgeTV perfect!! I have no problem if the videos are too long if they have a lot of information!! You know, when you are new with this things you need a good Turorial full of stuff xD
Ape + Dragon = Delaphey
wait how does a limb tail have less complexity?
Low gravity be like thin leggy
High gravity be like THICK leggy
5:38 THICC!!!!
I forgot how to make the creature disproportionate
i still cant break limbs apart it wont let me do that. so i cant make limb tails :(
Hold CTRL on the limb segment itself, not the ball joint :)
