North gets the pick of the two best mids this year as well as two potentially top 10 picks next season in a supposedly better draft. West coast gets the pick out of the two best wa boys projected to go around picks 8 and 12 which works well for them as they’re desperate for high end youth. Port get a former 1 pick mid (showed enough at north that he’ll be a good player but still needs to show more) and prime age small forward, works well for their list age as they have a good amount of youth but also a fair amount above 30. Gws get the guy they really wanted in a position they really need that may not have been there at their pick. GWS wanted pick 1. They swapped their Pick 3, 12 for it. Pick 3 went to North, 12 went to WCE (who wanted it). Basically all the deals among the 4 are impacting each other so that each club gets what they want. For example, Giants had a' future 2nd rd -> they give that to Port -> which allows Port to make trades with North and WCE
Eagles did very well yet again. Other clubs could look carefully how they trade. Rarely bring in players for draft picks. Heavily rely on the draft. They always seem to be in the mix. Are out of the finals for a couple years and then they strike back with vengeance. I'm really interested in mature age prospects at WAFL and whether they can bring in someone in their early-mid 20s that can step up and be a quality player.
They won't be playing finals for years. They will lose some of their over paid mature injury prone players over the next 2 to 4 years and will replace them with young guns. Those players will take time and then they will be good.
@@stefanwilliamson8627 I agree that they are injury prone currently. But Kane Cornes does twist the truth a touch about the value of the contracts. hold on why can't you trade away all of your pics for a shot at current success, you don't know what those pics are going to turn into and they are assets for you to use, that's the point of having those pics, like what OKC is doing in the NBA, gathering assets, what a dumb rule
what are the Eagles thinking, seriously they continually get raped in trades. As if Tim Kelly deal didn't screw them enough (not saying he's a bad player, only that the cost was too great).
NM's midfield is hot garbage, even if Horne-Francis stayed, it'd still be barely passable for a VFL midfield. Solve your midfield before you solve your forward line. I've been on this for years now - you build your team inside out, back to front, and overpay for guys who don't need others to make them look good. Tall forwards are impotent if a crappy midfield can't deliver them the ball. That's why GWS is tagetting a tall forward, because they actually have a midfield - even though they paid A+ money for B+ talent.
How so? WCE picked up a total of 1107 points on the deal = pick 15. They now have the chance with pick 8 to draft one of Busslinger, MacKenzie or Phillipou then one of Hewett, Hotton, Humphrey or Hustwaite with pick 12.
I think the AFL needs to do something with these number 1 picks ... really 1 season then out the door...the idea of a first draft pick is tho get a young gun into the club to build around...but then they are gone a year later ...makes no sense...the NBA makes the number 1 picks stay at the team for 3 years min.,
How can you possibly so sure what you get from any top 10 pick? Kingy is just too emotional here. There's no point in having a professional conversation with someone so frustrated.

Not really a bad decision for west coast. This draft from reports appears to be pretty even throughout the first round and there’s 3 wa boys projected in the top 14. West coasts age demographic has been terrible for years now and have only taken 1 player in the first round in the last 4 years. Swapping out a pick to get their choice of the top 2 wa boys makes a lot of sense.

North's have been as dumb as dogshit to let the #1 pick go for something that in my mind is clearly inferior to what they had. Cadman should have been the target with that pick for a club lacking in key forwards, but they have handed him over to GWS for what? North has once again traded poorly and I can't believe Clarko approved trading away the #1 like that.
Still, is PA a chance for a premiership?
Pick 1 is just a number
North will get their tall next year? OK....which one?
King does have a point here but of course there are too many variables involved just yet.
North should have got one of those late teen picks this year from GWS for giving up pick 1 to them.
My heads all tied up like a pretzel....I got a pretzel in my head! 😅
We will not take 2 mids, it will be Sheezel and a mid probably wardlaw
Pick 3 Jude, Martin, Didak, pick 2 Cocthin, roughhead Lappin. You can get great picks with 2 and 3. But you need a bit of luck and good recruiters. I don't believe north Melbourne's problems are the draft.
Jimmy Toumpas pick 4, Jack Trengove pick 1, now playing amateur footy, easy to be selective
Could someone please explain how GWS got involved
Interesting that Eagles didn't try to offload some of those massive contracts during trade period if they were that concerned. The rejects brought in like Langdon, Petrovski and co have been disappointing. They gave up Brander for nothing... perhaps they now need to get him back for nothing.
they got rioli and a bloke who wouldnt make the 22 at the bottom club
Need a bit more research there mate, go back and look at the first year of some absolute superstars of the comp over the last 2 decades, plenty of ordinary first years and not many games (and no, I’m not a Port fan).
I see kingys point they've won the trade period but pressures back on to port now lets see what they can actually do because they fucked if they go backwards I don't see the young talent apart from Horne-Francis now coming through , Kane Cornes saying hawthorn are irrelevant, so are Port Adelaide no one really cares about that club they always tease to go all the way and choke, then the next year their out of the 8
Amazing
What happens if Dees don't take Grundy by Wednesday? Does Collingwood keep him do they have to cancel his contract?
Yes they have to keep him. No they can't cancel the contract. Grundy has every right to be angry with Collingwood
Forget it, he will be at Melbourne next year
North did alright and are better without JHF - he never wanted to be at North anyway and he could have been distabilizing for the team if he'd stayed.
hold on why can't you trade away all of your pics for a shot at current success, you don't know what those pics are going to turn into and they are assets for you to use, that's the point of having those pics, like what OKC is doing in the NBA, gathering assets, what a dumb rule
Wardlaw>
what are the Eagles thinking, seriously they continually get raped in trades. As if Tim Kelly deal didn't screw them enough (not saying he's a bad player, only that the cost was too great).
These bullshit comparisons with Cadman are so far from reality it’s insane!!!!
Y dont north sign the brown players instead of going into the draft to get mids
Welcome Cadman, I mean pick 1.
Kingy needs to get an Administrator role at Kangas and tear em a new one
Kingy not happy. In other news. Water is wet.
So port can win flag next year, Geelong won flag this year and lions strong flag contender, common denominator is they all lost to Hawthorn
Kingy is so in his feels hahahah, his club once again fumbling the bag, we want butters we want Marshall we want bonner n end up with no one ahahah
bro im a north fan since wayne carey this is fuckin bad rllly jhf is a god
We are Port Adelaide. King is a nobody.
North Melbourne turned down 3 first round picks for JHF from the crows last year. Gosh north Melbourne made poor decisions. Need to fold sadly
You're clearly on the spectrum
@@lunch2102 hes right u random
Power failure couldn't win a root in a brothel.
And they picked two mids again this year 😂😂😂😂
Yeah north and eagles get screwed
rioli is injury prone, great player though
West Coast lost the deal so hard
How so? WCE picked up a total of 1107 points on the deal = pick 15. They now have the chance with pick 8 to draft one of Busslinger, MacKenzie or Phillipou then one of Hewett, Hotton, Humphrey or Hustwaite with pick 12.
I think the AFL needs to do something with these number 1 picks ... really 1 season then out the door...the idea of a first draft pick is tho get a young gun into the club to build around...but then they are gone a year later ...makes no sense...the NBA makes the number 1 picks stay at the team for 3 years min.,
Kingy is so biased
Sounds like the draft is scam
How can you possibly so sure what you get from any top 10 pick? Kingy is just too emotional here. There's no point in having a professional conversation with someone so frustrated.
Kingy got the sooks cos they lost jhf
I think he is more upset about what they did with the #1 pick. Although it is near impossible to break down a trade as complex as this one, if you try to break these trades down to basics as they might apply for North, you could reason that they traded JHF for #2 and the future 1st round Port pick. North has once again traded poorly and I can't believe Clarko approved trading away the #1 like that.
North were offered so much for the no 1 pick last year as Crows wanted Horne Francis, Crows instead got Rochelle, Dawson and Rankine with these picks which tells you how much Nth Melb has lost out.
Atheist Football League.
Port 😂
Overated selfish team lasti JHF is anyway.
Not overated,he will be a very good player however he played the system and got his way which annoys me. He asked to be picked number 1 whoever had the pick so he could pocket the 10k cash and now he is gone cause he is homesick? The system needs a major overhaul so clubs like North don't keep getting fucked
@@grantmcaskell4568 Karma will come back to bite the way he used North like Buckley used Brisbane
Jhf will Not be missed, didnt perform at nm,av 15 disposals, useless.
Then why did they want the world for him? Besides spite?
WTF are the Eagles doing in this trade??? FFS 🤦♂️
@@declanl6239 WC need as much talent as possible in as they haven't even bottomed out yet. If they can get two of Busslinger, MacKenzie, Phillipou, Hewett, Hotton, Humphrey or Hustwaite plus possible sliders with picks 20 and 26 then they'd be happy with that.
@@leefy4829 yeah ginbey looks to be the one they will take with pick 8, out of hewett and busslinger for pick 12. But yeh after that they’ll jump on whoever falls to 20 and then 26. Overall should be a good haul. Not a west coast supporter.
king you flog your freo takes are so so bitter ......cop that freo did not bend to melb like you said 2 days ago
So GWS will get Cadman, then he’ll ask for a trade in 2-3yrs. Nice one.
This is where equalisation needs to be overhauled. They will get top ten picks year after year but will lose them due to salary cap issues. It's harder to keep talent there unless you offer big cash. But how do they do this in a market where they can't afford 7 or 8 players who want a bucket load so they end up at destination clubs who can pay them a little bit more but also they play in front of 60000 every week and have huge one off games (Anzac day Dreamtime). The system doesn't work if your drafted to GWS or Gold Coast.
@@grantmcaskell4568 you are spot on and I 100% agree. The Suns have been a monumental failure and will continue to be. GWS will simply groom players for other clubs, receive draft picks......rinse and repeat. And the most bizarre thing, while GWS are a hamster on a wheel, the Suns are an epic money pic, Nth are still battling their arse off, is the AFL want to bring in another basket case from Tassie. There is a genuine reason why I now pick NRL over the AFL.
The AFL weren’t just happy to screw their own league, they have rooted country football with this diabolical points system and salary cap. Since they’ve introduced that, clubs have merged, clubs have folded, leagues have merged and leagues have folded. If you know your football....country Vic, actually make that all country leagues across Australia, ACTFL, NTFL, Tassie Football, QAFL have declined dramatically and will continue to.
@@victoryline5689 completely agree. You only have to look at Tassie footy to see their system is shot to pieces and the AFL let it happen. Sandy Bay folded 15 years ago and they were one of the bigger clubs.
@@grantmcaskell4568 I played for Launceston Blues when it was State League....the comp, much like others, is a shadow of itself. Sad to watch. More than likely this is my last year watching AFL. I’ve been watching more and more NRL over the past 10yrs and it hasn’t lost its soul.
Let’s be honest.....we all want to see Bulldogs tell the Lions GAGF and let Dunkley walk. Lions are treating Bulldogs like bitches. *why is Willy Rioli being called Junior all of a sudden🤔
His father died recently. Apparently it's some family tradition.
@@paulk756 absolute load of bullshit and a cop out!!!! I played with Willy Snr at two different clubs and loved him!!!! The only tradition the Rioli’s have, is their connection to South Freo.
