They translation on the first line is abysmal. It's not that the words are wrong, but punctuation is EVERYTHING. "Shackle Me Not" is a skateboarding doc. And Logic Pro is a software for recording music. Knowing those 2 things makes the 1st line pretty easy. "Big up to this skateboarding movie and a clean beat made on Logic Pro."
Daylight and nightlight are the Mona Lisa of hip hop to me. The absolute greatest masterpiece ever made. The way he uses the same rhyme schemes and flows in both songs while making them polar opposites still blows my mind. Keep doing aes man! I wish more people appreciated him but I love seeing peoples reactions and realization that he is so smart in such a convoluted way
So Aes comes in two styles and they're both super dope. His early stuff is extremely dense, cryptic and very lyrical but it doesn't put you off (well, at least it doesn't to me). Newer Aes is still all of those things but the biggest difference is that he's easing up by letting us catch the bars and playing more with the music instead of keeping a "steady beat". His new stuff plays so much with the beat, production and is much more experimental and "playful" than the older stuff... either way, you can't go wrong with Aes and you definitely should check out his early catalog! Give 1000 Deaths a listen!
You should have done the daylight/nightlife one with the bside. Reaction is what I expected,I still find lines in this song and I heard it in 2004 lol. If you think this is tough... Oxygen, 1000 deaths, big bang, pretty much all his old stuff is like this haha
“Watch red bricks turn yellow” is probably both a Wizard of Oz reference and a drug reference “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” But also, crack cocaine is commonly sold in “bricks” Might be referring to a double-edged sword?
Hands down my favorite Blockhead beat and Aes kills it as always. His early stuff is even more esoteric and cryptic though...haha. You should check out Mr. Lif's Return Of The B-Boy. He was a fellow Def Jux artist around the same time and its another great old school/new school vibe.
Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic have a Collab project called Hail Mary Mallon. You really should check them out because Rob Sonic has a crazy flow too. The song "Dollywood" is a banger, a great place to start.
You in trouble with this lyric video.. not great quality in translation.. but yea this is super dense, so even with correct lyrics it’d be the same.. grateful for your react.. it’s awesome people coming around to dive into his catalog.. man is sheer prolific lyricist who puts out a personal project every other year at minimum, while also working on other projects like Malibu Ken, Hail Mary Mallon, Lice, and The Uncluded. Definitely have to do Night Light next.. he flips this track on its ear.. you’ll dig it, and it’ll help translate Daylight too.
If you want a strange but interesting Aesop Rock, cut I'd recommend checking out his remix of Grimace Federation's "Strange Hours" or the Felt track "Hologram" where he tears up the track with Slug, Murs, and the Grouch.
I've listened to this song (and all his others) for years and I'm always picking new meanings with every listen You should do Nightlight next though! Also... Big Bang, The Greatest Pacman Victory in History, Kodokushi, Gopher Guts are some good picks, but I'd watch a reaction for any of his music, it's all great
Nice, this one is OG. Always reminds me of driving along the shore of California (where I first heard it). Yeah you should react to "Nightlight" next, it's the dark version of this song. Love seeing Aes here, would love to see more Lice (Aes and Homeboy Sandman).
now you've done daylight, nightlight is pretty much mandatory. idk if true or not, but, daylight/nightlight feel like its one project one song kinda, not like part 1 part 2 more like 2 sides of the same coin. a mirrors' reflection of a song, if you will.
I think the lyrics in the video you watched are pretty off from the actual lyrics unfortunately. Still an entertaining vid though, but a lot of the meaning is lost with the incorrect lyrics, especially when the song is as complex as it is.
There's a ton of errors in the lyrics for the video you picked, which doesn't help... I'd list which lyrics were incorrect but there's just way too many sadly.

lmao I love starting people on like Impossible Kid and working them back to Music for Earthworms
@@lysergicninja With new Aesop listeners its probably best to listen backwards actually ur totally right
“Watch red bricks turn yellow” is probably both a Wizard of Oz reference and a drug reference
“Follow the Yellow Brick Road”
But also, crack cocaine is commonly sold in “bricks”
Might be referring to a double-edged sword?
Having the words in front of you is just the first step in deciphering the multiple codes embedded in his lyrics.
Return of the B-Boy is a great track
Glad you got around to this one!

Every time you post Aes you get a dub out here
If you're up for more Aesop I'd recommend Cycles to Gehenna from Skelethon
Hell yeah. Been itching for more Aesop.
Thank you.
Locksmith and Jon Connor definitely like them like lyricism as well.
Connor is siiiick

Wow Ryhmslayers got some spitters. Don't ever of Saroc need check her out man will not regret it. Nice setup man dig it man.
Got a whole Sa-Roc playlist

For example the second "you won't be laughing line" is actually "you won't be laughing when the buzzards drag your brother's flags to rags" not buses
There's a ton of errors in the lyrics for the video you picked, which doesn't help... I'd list which lyrics were incorrect but there's just way too many sadly.
I recommend looking for the actual lyrics, these are bunk.
Dude who you telling... and the way they scroll gave me a migraine
@@Keeferfer I kno, rite? It's like the uploader wants to give you dissonance.
Nightlife
Shakespeare would be lost...
That lyric video def has a bunch of slightly wrong lyrics. It's ALMOST the right words, almost.
I don't know how to say this nicer but if you got nothing to say, you should say nothing
NOPE….Aesop is not for you
These lyrics are so wrong. 😆
Should I give it another run?
