Australian motorsport has lost some unbelievable race tracks that produced the best racing.this track was one of them. such a shame.thanks for the upload

Thanks for uploading this race. All I remember of this race was that it was very very hot! My legs were jelly when I got out of the car and had to be helped to stand by one of my crew.

The commentator said 33 degrees ambient temperature and track temperature 50 degrees Celsius, but I suppose on a positive note it would not be difficult to get tyres up to temperature.Just a few questions on your Mazda RX-3, CAMS and the race. What was the Power, Torque and Weight of your Mazda RX-3 in this race? What Top Speed could your Mazda RX-3 do at Bathurst in 1980?What sort of Fuel was it using and how big was the Tank? With the Weight of the car for the CAMS regulations, do they take the Weight of the car as being the weight of the car plus oil and water only, but not including the weight of the driver and any fuel in it, is this how it works with the weight requirements?I've been trying to work out what race this was from the internet and on Wikipedia, I've found that there was a 1980 COMPACT TENNIS 400 on 2 November 1980 that Charlie O'Brien won, is this the race, rather than 1980 SURFERS PARADISE 300 stated?

Relying on a failing memory I"ll try to answer your questions! In 1980 we were not permitted engine porting of our rotary engine, so I"d say we had maximum power of 145 bhp. Weight was 1960lbs. We ran BP Racing Fuel with 100 Octane rating. Weighing was done without driver and fuel, but with all other fluids.

Thanks, this was great. I loved the Ron Wanless's Recar pit crew uniform, T shirt, shorts and thongs!

+kenny8ism Oh yes, 1980 was just before the corporate race gear business took off, as today is my birthday I just had to put this up, brought back some great memories of what it was like back then when I was involved. Many thanks for your comment. Tim

Maybe pin ross burbidge's comment when you get around to it, as he actually was in the race?

Now that the 'spawn-of-the-devil' V8 Supercars crapfest, lets bring this type of touring car racing. Lots of different cars, different classes, just better in every way!
