I'm glad the MIB plushie is back and for longer cause I ran out of money recently but I may get Christmas money so I will be able to get it, and plus I'll take several pics with it as I have a few pieces of Godzilla merch and media
With all the supplemental “documents” and info, the book was clearly aimed primarily at Godzilla fans (and somewhat casual ones, judging by the lack of deep cuts as MIB says), while most of the negative reviews are by disappointed pop-up enthusiasts first and foremost, which is understandable, based on the low number of _actual_ pop-ups 😐 But for the right audience, this book could be a lot of fun. Heck, if I had a spare $40 i’d buy it to add to my Goji library, but for now imma keep an eye on it to see if it gets just a wee more affordable 😉
That "Official Guide" book is also riddled with errors. I think every single entry has at least one thing wrong with it. The only thing it has going for it is the photos.
*Edit:* Never mind. 😑 *OMG This is so COOL! I always Loved Godzilla since I was a kid.* *He’s my favorite Kaiju! He’s practically our nation’s mascot! I need this book in my collection!* 💙
I think it's still neat just...not at all worth its original price point. But I can see it being available for much cheaper later on down the line, would be worth it if marked down by half imo
The price is accurate to this brand. I´ve looked and $50 is what all the other books have been sold for. And, just by research, they´re AMAZING. Personally, I want to own the DC and Game of Thrones ones. That being said, I can get the anger. As you said: it is a pop out book. That´s what most should have been.
"WAIT HOLD ON! This says..." It also claims "Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster" took place in 1964 when the movie sets itself in January of 1965. Both dialogue and a newspaper Shindo's reading says as such. So, yeah, they're just doin' the year of release and didn't think about it. It also says the monsters are confined to Monster Island. Monsterland and Monster Island aren't the same place. Monsterland is the Ogasawara Island chain 1000km south of Tokyo. Monster Island is way the hell off in the South Pacific. And Princess Salno's Japanese name is "Mas Dorina Salno" (it's a Japanese joke or something; "Selina Salno" is her name in the dub, of course, but never "Maas Selina Salno") so yeah, the information in this thing is spotty at best. They can call it official all they want--it's demonstrably wrong. "Minilla" then later on the card "Manilla"... really? That opening "WHAT THE FU--?!" got me so good. Brilliant gag, MIB.
Honestly if they ran with idea of it being an in universe field guide or declassified file with all the little bells and whistles with some more info about the monster, aliens, and characters? This would actually be super damn cool would also need to be longer too.
We are currently having a Christmas tree decorating contest at my work where we decorate these cardboard Christmas trees. I already did mine this year I went with Gremlins theme, next year I was thinking about doing Godzilla if I do I might actually get this book just to do it
8:21, still looks pretty baller till this day. 8:42, they really should gotten some battles from the Showa era more showtime like Gigan or Jet Jaguar! JJ has more things interesting like making himself grow or have Ebirah and Titanosaurus underwater fighting Godzilla.
When it comes to the OG Godzilla dying…it depends on what series you continue watching after watching the first film. If you continue watching the showa era, one could say it’s the same Godzilla, if you watch the Heisei era, it’s DEFINITELY the same Godzilla because of the time travel stuff in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. As for the Millennium series…it’s made clear that the OG Godzilla is dead thanks to the existence of Kiryu.
Not really Showa Godzilla is clearly different from Original as Raid Again movie explained it And Heisei isn't also not the same as Futurian make a mistake and thought that Original is Godzillasaurus In reality, Godzillasaurus is Heisei.. basically 1954 timeline isn't affected at all
Saw it in the store and thought it could be neat. It was wrapped in plastic, so I looked through the top and the pop up seemed to be torn or broken. When I noticed the price, I put it back on the shelf and walked away quick.
I think this should have just been a book of in-universe articles and declassified reports about Godzilla and co. Heck, they should do something like that for every Godzilla series.
This book actually reminds me a lot of a Titanic pop-up book that I got for my birthday in 2010. It's a really neat book, and I actually still have it today.
For a pop up book, it’s lacking actual pop ups I think the reviews are fair , I have some paleo pop ups books with pop ups in every page, even some ambitious pop ups. This one doesn’t really make the 50 dollar price tag worth it
I have my eye on the Stranger Things pop up. To be fair my childhood memories of pop up books did involve a lot of other elements beyond the pop-up feature itself - lots of hidden flaps, movement tabs and “prop” extras. It was the interaction and immersion of the book that made them fun rather than “everything pops up” so to me this is closer to what I would expect. Also on the price point, most of his books are around the same price range so that shouldn’t be a surprise - though maybe the overall quality on this one seems somewhat lacking in comparison. Plus a bit of extra research could’ve prevented that mix-up with the timeline.
It is an obvious ploy for one or more of us to kick in and do it better. They want to do good, but fall short of expectations in part because of how things used to be a little less complicated.
This reminds me ive not looked at my Transformers pop up book in a while Its was about $50aus when i got it a while back It did feel worth it though if i remember right Are you gonna do review vids for the other books you mentioned that would be fun
I see why that this pop up book has gotten bad reviews in the first place. The Japanese version of their pop up books is way more pop ups than the American one.
I actually really want this. The other stuff look so much more entertaining than the actual pop ups. The only problem is the price it’s god awful I would get this but on sale
I bought this pop book and the Godzilla encyclopedia. The encyclopedia was cool. Loved the artwork and info. The pop up was disappointing. The book look thick enough to have several pop-ups. But nope. 2 pop ups and a half. If you count the mostly flat island. The pop ups were so busy looking , it's like what is going on here? No not worth the money. Not 50 anyway.
It’s five. Don’t just repeat what MIB said. Even if you only count the massive pop ups it’s very clearly Three Five including the two smaller ones. Anything that literally pops up from the page counts. Criticise its lack of depth/detail rather than trying to suggest it isn’t popping up. Yes it could be better, but don’t spread incorrect info especially since that is a criticism of the pop up!
@ObsessiveGeek Not just repeating what MIB said. I actually purchased the book. I was disappointed with it. I paid $50 bucks for it.Thinking it would be a different kind of Godzilla book to own. Maybe if it cost a lot less. It would have been less of a disappointment. But for 50.00 bucks I expected more.
While the book does seem pretty mid for a pop-up book, gotta admit I really like all the documents and cards you can take out and read. Lowkey reminds me of the Ology book series (e.g. Dragonology, Mythology etc.) that had similar interactive pieces included, and honestly, I think a Godzilla-themed entry in that series would be awesome, as much of a pipe dream as it probably is.
I think it should’ve been called “intrractive book” or similar instead of “pop-up book”. I think resetting the readers expectation would be a huge help
@@MonsterIslandBuddies all pop-ups are interactive books, though they’re simply known as pop-ups.
