    Pappa needs a brand new camera and lens (don't tell the missus).
    Here we investigate the reason behind blown mains fuses and develop a plan of attack.
    Be sure to stay "tuned" for part 2 where I carry out the repair and record some sound samples.

    I enjoy your work man and your approach to troubleshooting. You should make any potential customers watch at least 10 of your videos before sending you an amp to understand what it takes to repair a tube amp and why the costs sometimes are higher than the estimate.

    The shaft nuts for the input jacks are apparently 15/32nths or perhaps 31/64ths. Not a very common socket size but they do exist. Here in the States, carpentry will drive you nuts, because what used to be 1/2 inch plywood is now 29/64ths.

      Yeah, I'll track one down. The Cliff genuine and Cliff copy jacks I get these days are bang on 12mm.
      I hate using anything other than the exact correct socket.

    Those poor things look like good old point-to-point handwired Reverborockets but even all the tubes are mounted on PCBs. So sad.
    The old handwired ones are so easy to repair, these PCB versions are a pain in the ***. I hope some company makes kits to convert these to handwired versions, tubes mounted to chassis as well.

      I remember the original eyelet board/hand wired Ampegs. Never saw one that was point to point wired.

    To be fair to owners - I've had amps go wrong and simply not noticed underlying issues. I trust my tech to check it over and tell me what needs to be done - I've been going to the same guy for years and trust him.

      You're one of the good ones then, mate.
      So is this Ampeg customer.
      But some try and conceal issues then pretend they didn't know about them and act as if that they should get them resolved for free because it "must be something you did".

      @@BradsGuitarGarage Dunno about being a good one, to me it's just sensible. Why try and screw over someone who's got my amp at his tender mercies? ;-)

    Is there better tubes you’d suggest that makes a difference in sound?
    Or a way to hot rad my amp.
    I like it- but haven’t got the right squeak out of it yet.

    Dont you want to keep the beard in Winter Brad? It does still get cold "down under" eh?

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  2 роки тому

      I go through cycles of about 2-3 months to beard then it gets annoying so I shave.
      I should have grown it for winter, but in the scheme of things, our winters are pretty mild compared to most of you!
      15c is considered a chilly day here and everyone complains about the cold. Lol.

    There must be a "disposable amp guide" written by some accountant that all manufacturers use to make these amps so difficult to repair. And it has clearly been available for decades.
    They WANT you to throw it away and buy another one. Its a disgusting and immensely irresponsible business practice. The amount of electronic waste we are producing these days is unsustainable... not to mention how expensive these things are getting with all the component shortages.

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  2 роки тому +1

      After around 10y experience, I don't believe that the manufacturers are doing it on purpose.
      I think the accountants are to blame for that one by setting unrealistic budgets that required massive short cuts.
      But the accountants are only doing that to suit the market.
      So in the end, the consumer is ultimately to blame for demanding cheaper and cheaper amps.
      Having said that, there is some utter trash at the top end of the market, too.
      I'm looking at you, Mesa. Lol!

      They're useful. More useful than a dim-bulb for everything other than intermittent shorts.
