Hopefully Shanny is next. A decade at the helm with pretty much nothing to show for it. That Shannaplan has been a disaster. Time for more changes than just the coach. Break up the core 4 too.
Real reason?
He got out coached every playoffs
He just was poor at his job
Loved Keefe as coach. He is also a Paul Maurice level human being. Just a solid guy who is stand up and took the bullet for his team. Classy while he was with us and he left the right way with his head high and thankful for the opportunity.

When Sheldon stepped in he had players like Hyman, Kadri, Muzzin, which gave the team some backbone, but because Dubas gave away the team's salary, to four players!
Now you can only do so much with what's left to spend!!!
Then when these players wanted more money for doing most of the work, the team didn't want to spend more and Dubas wanted a more talented team with speed and skills, but forgot that those players don't come with grit or guts to do what is needed in the playoffs, so when you do find someone that has all those things they cost more money to!!!
The real problem is the young guns want the money, but don't care about the rest of the team and having to pay them higher wages to play at higher levels!!!
Which is why Toronto has been using rookie players or older players at less wages, but forget about getting talented players with grit, because you have to pay for that and every other team is looking for that type of player also, for the PLAYOFFS!!!
Talent only takes you so far, until you hit the PLAYOFFS, when grit and guts take over and separates the MEN from the BOYS, Toronto's BOYS don't have what it takes, to go anywhere, in the PLAYOFFS, as you can see for yourself!!!
Leafs need to hire players and staff that have won a different levels..stanley cup!!
Yeah that worked real well with babcock. Coaching def needed to change but more changes must be made for success.

I was there in Vegas for Babcock's last game and the next day when Keefe was hired. I couldn't be happier to see the back of him. Inability to adapt, arrogant demeanour, wasting Matthews prime is a crime!
He just couldn't put the icing on the cake. That means he ran out of gas to put the team past the second round. He was just shooting ducks instead of getting a big round steak past round One
Keefe is the scapegoat. Upper management should be fired. Break up the team , to many individuals not team players

I’m not sure if 100% of this problem was all his responsibility.
I would suggest having 4 super stars collecting heavy healthy cheques, and in some cases god like resemblances , should have more awareness and diligence toward the money they make.
Obviously motivation is important , except basic skills such as Nylander and his flat feet, marner with zero awareness of who is where, and a goalie scared to play a puck , also need to be mentioned as this coach can not instill basics anymore at this level.
It’s up to a 10+ million contract to skate.

When you want to send a message to your first and second liners about their lackluster play by benching perhaps your best (4th liner) penalty killer and then playing Carolina, a strong power play team, giving up two power play goals then losing 2-1 tells me all I need to know about Sheldon Keefe's coaching prowess. He's been outcoached all year , culminating with game 7 vs. Boston, after the team coalesced together to win two straight while on the verge of elimination, then inserting Matthews, whose health was not fully known, and whose presence changed the balance in the team ( Keefe's own words), with the result being your team's elimination in the first round.
Outcoaching yourself WITH yourself is a feat worthy of unemployment, and, ultimately, it was!
Signing him for the extension was the mistake. Had to know that if they got bounced in the first round he would have to go.

Can thank Dubas for that. He's gonna end up in Pittsburgh with Dubas. That duo will ruin whats left of that team too.
Sheldon Keefe is the scapegoat for all of Brendon Shanahan"s personal mistakes and overpaying players mistakes like Marner and Tavaras , Obviously the person who we want fired Brendon Shanahan will not be because he is doing a B.S press conference with MLSE Pelley and GM Treliving the day after Sheldon Keefe was fired

agreed but need more then just coaching staff to change. The leafs need to pay whatever it takes to acquire an elite d man. If it is even possible to do so.
@@bilbilly625 Of course... they need an actual #1 goaltender with Woll as a backup for now until he can prove he can stay healthy. They also need an elite D (or two) and a power forward who can actually get to the net i nthe playoffs.

You could have a new coach walk across the water from Buffalo ... it won't make any difference if the Leafs don't fix their roster and cap utilization issues.

Motivation. Why the hell would you be Motivated when you have No defense. It broke Samsonov. Its broke the leafs, lets pass the blame around other then where it should fall.
No coach on earth can fix this roster. Years and years away still. But boy this corporation rakes in the dough and that's what matters.

If professional athletes at the top level of their leagues need someone to motivate them in the playoffs they are hopeless. Bad game-planning and in-game adjustments are one thing, but a "new voice"?
The reason is the team won't escalate their game in the playoffs. They think that they can play regular season hockey in the playoffs. The answer to that is NO YOU CANNOT!!!!!
This will be all the leafs do. Fire the coach. Will not address the lack of top4 D. Get more grit and filler pieces and run it back.

I think the leafs played at their very best all season, when it came down to playoffs the leafs never played any better than they did in regular season hockey where all the other teams played playoff hockey
No Leaf Coach has a chance for playoff runs - with the existing Core 4 playoff disappointments. The Leafs Executives are pretending a new voice is required - mainly to expense Leaf Fans just to hold onto their high paying Leaf Executive jobs. 😀

Keefe is a good coach.....did a fine job...a very good record...he did not lose that last game. Reilly a few other pylons did.....good luck Keefe, you will be missed.
