I remember being on the side of the track back when i was a kid (born in Le Mans) and the first passage of the car scared the s*** out of me, being so loud and aggressive, i will never forget that screaming sound. you litteraly could hear the car from the other side of the track, even in the pit straight you could tell if the Mazda was in the Hunaudiere.
I was very fortunate to see this at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach this year with 2 other Mazda GT Prototypes (A 787 with the white livery, and one that had a shorter career, RX-792P) in a race of late 80s and early 90s prototypes

787B one of the best racing cars of all time, easily in everyone's top 5 surely! Why do they blip-rev like that, isn't it better to just have the engine at a constant higher revs than idle?
Peripheral ported rotaries already idle around 2200rpm. They do it to not foul the spark plugs as a ported rotary at idle is very cranky as you can hear, and doesnt do the plugs any good without a rev.
I'm torn between loving the 787B as an object and also thinking it increasingly gets overhyped as a racecar. But either way it's great that they're still taking it to events to give the people what they want.
I remember watching IMSA races in the USA, 1980s. There would be some 4 rotors GTP cars on circuit. WOW. The most unique sounding beasts blowing by. You need the lowest rated dCB earplugs or you'll be deaf after these cars revving past. Imagine driving this machine. 700 NA bhp of power on command, no need to wait for turbo boost, just step and go. And peak torque at only 6500rpm, sheesh. My 1993 RX7 twin turbo was almost uncontrollable at WOT.

La "vraie victorieuse" est donc bien évidemment celle-ci en vidéo et couche ELLE au Japon (sauf "découchés surveillés" pour démos dans le Monde...). 😉‼️ Et puis, si il y en a bien un qui mérite de la faire évoluer, c'est bien Yojiro TERADA San (toute l'épopée Mazda depuis 1974 sur les Sigma-Mazda). La première étant une Chevron avec un birotor Mazda un peu plus tôt. Elle n'a pas vieilli depuis que je l'ai vu en 1991 et qu'elle m'ait empêché de "dormir en camping" à Mulsanne par son passage toutes les 3.45 ~4 minutes... 😉‼️ Dernier point, peu savent qu'elle a un "silencieux" sur son échappement malgré le son qu'elle produit... Unfortunate about the American classic rock over the speakers. I would expect to hear that music at a NASCAR race but, not at the Le Mans classic with all these great sounding cars running around the track. What is amazing is they have those cars in the Le Mans museum and they just drive them on to the track, that is excellent!

@@Belgian-Motorsport At Idle 787b is definitely louder. And if the car is pushed at 8k rpm + I mean there is no comparison IMO. Never seen it on the Hunaudiere straight but people say it's ridiculous. The mazda 767b revs at 10.5k rpm which has a louder exhaust note than the 787b, the thing is that the 787b creates more vibrations hence why it was so dangerous to the drivers during the Le Mans races. I might add that this car has a muffler on it, because the other drivers complained to much during the 1991 Le Mans race practices... Props to the RSR tho, insane car!
Yep, ear porn at its best but sad that most of the people in the crowd, still do not know how to film such a event. Come on guys it is 2022 and by filming in Portrait mode is old school. Please film in Landscape mode and for people that do not know what I am talking about, turn the bloody phone sideways so that the longest part of the screen is between your thumbs.
Why they didn't push it a bit more on track ? It barely has done a few laps and was slow AF... This car as I witnessed first hand back in the days is a beast but it needs to be driven properly, like a proper race car. This slow it's not quite as heardrum tearing as it really is.

At le mans in 1991, one of the drivers forgot his earplugs and suffered permanent, career ending, hearing damage.
During these demo laps it was fine without earplugs and standing far from the track. But if it was going full throttle you will need ear protection.

No, the RSR is louder. But then again these were only demo laps. The driver wasn't pushing it.
