Cutting a thin metal disc the same size of the outside circumference of the stove will put it out all right. Maybe you'll have to have one of the three pot stands to stand upright to put the disc in place. Besides, using a wind guard, even if there is no wind or used inside, will improve greatly the boil time because it will force the heat upwards along the sides of the pot.

I've built at least 50 alcohol stoves from soda cans , smaller ones from V8 cans , and steel cat food cans using primarily 90% alcohol as fuel because I can see it well , and it's cheap and multi purpose . I've found that a small liquor bottle that holds perhaps 2 ozs. is a good measuring device and also a good storage bottle . Half of the bottle burns approximately 15 minutes , and that's enough to heat up water for mountain house and/or coffee ! Only takes a few minutes of experimentation to gauge results . A can with a lid should hold the stove , fuel , coffee percolator , and serve to extinguish the flame ... just a thought ! Like the stove and appreciate your channel ! Happy New Year !

Thanks for posting this it's interesting stove. And I'm sure like you said you can come up with something to snuff the stove out. I like the capillary action on there that really adds to the output. You have a good 2023 hoping the best for all of us!

Accidentally bought this stove thinking I was getting the wood stove/ alcohol stove stand from Boundless Voyage. Was pleasantly suprised! Still need the afore mentioned part but I'm keeping this too. Boiled a cup of coffee in just a few minutes, could have cooked diner too. It ran 13 minutes on it's first burn with maybe 1 1/2 ounces of 91% alcohol.

Great review and an interesting stove. Good boil time but needs a "snuffer lid" included in the package.

Great review, thanks. I’ve got the same issue with my Goshawk ERA stove, very tricky to put out and that thing burns like a rocket. Simple solution I’ve found is a bit of damp cloth. This works in 2 ways, as something to lift my very hot pot with and as a snuffer for the burner. Gonna try the Boundless version of this as I’m in the UK and it’s easier to get from Amazon. Thanks and regards, Mike

I use a 13 ounce coffee can to store my homemade alcohol syove plus extra wicking material, when I use it I can drop that can over it to snuff it out. it's too big for travel but I made it for use at home

    Like that stove. Thank you.
Little idea - know those can openers that cut around the outside of the can lid ? Don't remember what the're called.
Making a "tin can" stove at home, that lid is used as part of it. Hope that made sense. Point being, would one of those can lids be the right size to cover & extinguish this stove?
    Just a thought. 😊

      @sanborns Рік тому +2

Yes, if you can find a can the same size or slightly larger and use a safety can opener to make it would work well. One could fashion a small handle of sort for easier use too ....

I think a very neat design, but pricey.I would want a snuffer for safety and to save fuel. For the price I shouldn't have to DIY a snuffer and still does not resolve the issue of no cap.
You can find good trangia designs with a stand, cap/snuffer and dampener for less Not titanium, but unless you're a super ultra light hiker a cpl of ounces of extra weight should be no issue for most.

Hi Mary, I have a friend who made a simple fancy feast cat food can alcohol stove. Probably cost him less than $1. He's been using it for years and works well. Many YT channel vids on how to make including possibly this Iridium242 channel. Tuna can or old shoe polish tins work well also. Have made my own fancy alcohol stoves and spent same on supplies needed. But can now make a dozen or so stoves with those supplies.

They're still finding bodies in cars that got stuck because of that blizzard in Buffalo,NY. - I wouldn't hesitate to use a small alcohol stove inside of a reasonable vehicle for a few minutes, to heat water for food & drink in that situation.
Yeah, you're going to have to be careful about how you set it up, but it will produce minimal CO if you use good fuel. My preference would be something like Everclear. It's not as cheap, but it *is* pure ethanol so it burns even cleaner. Doesn't hurt that it's drinkable, safe on wounds, and actually burns hotter to reduce boil time by a little bit.
Test your fuel choices, but not by drinking them. Drinking alcohol has been proven to be unhealthy, even if it's sold that way.

Maybe a lid from a tomato paste can cut with a can opener that breaks the seal of the lid and doesn't cut the lid. I am thinking that or just a few layers of foil would make a snuffer. A lot of antique stores sell small toy pots and pans and lids. You might find a metal lid from a thrift store that is perfect as a snuffer. I have a collection of toy aluminum pots and pans from the 50's.

@Iridium242 2 questions, please, what size cup did you use in the testing? Also if the bottom legs were cut off hypothetically would this effect the stove at all??
