Its been a while since I watched Naruto but I never considered that angle of Nejis character before. Its actually kind of horrifying how his character ends up. This was a cool video, would love to see some of the other characters explored similarly.
I am still bitter that Shippuden just discarded Neji as a character, all the potential he had, he doesn't even have a rematch with Lee or doesn't even fight Sasuke and Naruto doesn't really change the Hyuuga. There is no mention whatsoever of the fate. Neji died for a ship....
Yeah, Naruto says he’ll become Hokage and change the Hyūga, and then he becomes Hokage and marries into the family, and there’s still no mention of it.
@@MothsAudioandVideos Hell, even with Sasuke there is unjust. The Elders who played apart in the genocide of his clan ARE STILL ALIVE AND WORKING WITH NARUTO!! Not only is Neji not allowed agency in his story, but Sasuke is not allowed justice for his clan as the people who gave the order alongside Danzo still lives.
Yeah, so few characters that had legitimate grievances with society received justice. And if it was meant to be a bleak ending, that’d be one thing, but the final chapter and Boruto act like everything is idyllic.
Oh, okay. Well, that’s something. Naruto is absolved of this, then. Hiashi and Hinata were still slave-owners, though, and by the series’ end, nothing was changed, so I feel my video still works.
Damn, just watched this video. The facts upon facts upon facts!!!! I feel like Kishimoto is excellent with world/base character building, but when it actually comes to WRITING hes EXTREMELY LACKING (based on Naruto). "To re-examine if our heroes are truly heroic, and if our endings are just"--> literally this line is what made me drop Naruto, the more I was reading the more I questioned these 'heroes'. It's crazy how there are so many set up/moments of greatness, paired with just insane fumbling of the story. Genocide is an acceptable outcome because a clan has a 'hatred gene', slavery is ok etc etc.... and Kohona is supposed to be the 'good' village...??? Would love to see a series about the other characters, you nailed this!!
Yeah, this and the whole "the Uchiha clan was upset about their ghettoisation and oppression because they had an inherently evil gene and in trying to rise up against that they proved that, so their subsequent genocide, while unfortunate was kind of necessary for the good of the village. And also if any one else COULD be blamed for it it was the fault of one bad actor pulling the strings behind the scenes and not the countless people who contributed to the oppression or the leader of the village who okayed the genocide actually because he had no choice" thing are the two storylines that sat the worst with me. Kind of sickening to be honest. It's frustrating because there are so many things that are set up in really interesting and complex ways that then get brushed aside for easy solutions that maintain the status quo of the oppressors, and these two storylines come off the worst there imo.
Maybe it's answered in the manga/anime, it's been 15+ years since I've read/watched it, but if Neji's father got thrown into the second branch family for being the second born kid in his, I assume, first branch family, why isn't Hinata's sister and daughter part of the second branch as well? I guess they could have changed it by the time Hinata's second kid was born, but before her sister was?
In terms of naruto i know this video is old but I feel like naruto is a flawed series it is still a series that the good far out ways the bad. Speaking of the Uchiha in particular they were still being miss treated and thus they decided to stage vengeance against the leaf. Their genes themselves don't actually have anything to do it with it. The way it is explained the Uchiha gene is only in affect to increase ones hatred as when they lose someone close to them for saskue it was his clan and later his brother that increased his hatred, for obito it was rin dieing and the circumstances that led to her death, and for madara it was his brother death. The Uchiha genes were not the reason they rebelled they rebelled because they felt like the hidden leaf treated them as lesser. As for the hygua clan since their not really focused on even after the series end we don't know if things changed or not for them. It's implied in boruto but we do not know. As for neji you may disagree for me but I think his death is rather fitting for his character as two people he did not like or care for originally were the ones he was willing to risk his life for. I also will leave this link for hinata since I disagree about her being a horrible person ua-cam.com/video/77UmvRCu4Uc/v-deo.html
Shay Scruggs I guess we will have to disagree. I see no way to overlook slavery. Hinata owned Neji as a slave. Neji was enslaved by Hinata. Her being verbally abused by her father is not an excuse. Her little sister doing her best to fight her so that she didn’t end up as a slave is not an excuse. Neji, an enslaved boy that wanted nothing more than to be free, dying to protect his “master” is not what I would call a “fitting” ending.
The uchiha clan weren't being treated that badly. The ones that had the most reason to participate in a coup are the members of the branch family of the hyuga clan.
Allowed to, or manipulated to? The police force was founded by Tobirama Senju to keep the Uchiha in check, by his own admission. It was a position of power within a system of oppression. By making the Uchiha cops, they were limited politically, and the Uchiha had to hold the Konoha prison on their own land.

They say that the Hyuga were immune to genjutsu but that literally goes out the window when the infinite tsukinomi was introduced.
Komaeshadow There’s so many things Kishimoto set up and then just forgot about, it’s a wonder the series came out as coherent as it did.
exactly my thoughts! i really hope they will bring him back in boruto and give him the plot he deserves

Considering how Japanese culture tends to be, this sadly isn't really all that unusual or surprising...
I never thought of it this way.

It was confirmed in Boruto that Naruto changed the Hyuuga
A That was brought up in another comment, but yes, and that does mean Naruto is more likable, but it does nothing to absolve Hinata and her father.
The uchiha clan weren't being treated that badly. The ones that had the most reason to participate in a coup are the members of the branch family of the hyuga clan.
I mean, there was definitely discrimination against the Uchiha, but yeah, in comparison to the Branch Hyuga, they were relatively privileged.
