I met Buck in Honolulu in 1964 or 65, I hink it was. He was performing in a local car lot on a stage in the middle of the lot. he was one of the most down to earth and human performers I've ever met in my life. He wasn't yet famous, but Tiger By The Tail came out shortly after that, and he skyrocketed to fame very quickly. He actually came to see me to tell me about his good fortune, and wanted to say goodbye to me! A few days later, he returned to the mainland. I never met him again, but I still have very fond memories of him. He was a great, ordinary guy!
Buck Owens is single-handedly responsible for the Bakersfield sound. Great songwriter, singer Entertainer and guitar player. I've got to look up that acoustic guitar with an electric headstock. That's wild. That's the kind of guitar I wanted
@@carlmorell567 hey...I'm not sure if you ever found out but there are a couple of guitars of that type. You might find a Fender Newporter which is like that, or a San Miguel or a Sonoran, both by Fender.
That story at the end about his last show when fans inspired him to perform even though he was ill & he passed away that night really tugged at my heart.
would you really expect anything less from Buck?...he was a fans man..what i mean by that is his fans drove him..it wasn't about the money it was what he could do to put smiles on peoples face ...while it is sad that he passed on that night it also makes me proud to know that he was a great american and a very humble man ..he worked on hee haw with a couple distant family members of mine...great aunt minnie and 4th cousin roy..
I knew Buck very well. I'm a Bakersfield native and he and I belonged to the same country club for a number of years. He was such a gentleman and a very good golfer. Despite tremendous means, he always had a streak of that dust bowl kid in him - never took any success or any relationship for granted. His legacy will live on for ever.
What a beautifully done video. Love to see what one person's life goes through. The country music that we hear today will never hold a candle to these folks back in the day.
Buck Owens and Don Rich created some of the best music ever made. Their incredible Telecaster picking set the pace for guitar players around the world. Don and Buck were equally talented as vocalists...we miss you guys! God bless.
That's amazing. I had no idea he was that big in country music. Fifteen consecutive #1 hits? Total of 25?! That's very impressive! As a kid watching him on Hee Haw, I sensed he was a down to earth genuine good guy, not like other celebrities that seemed to be putting out an image. Good video.
I have always loved Buck Owens.saw him in the 60’s and had pictures taken with him. The sweetest most down to earth entertainers I know. I own everything he ever made. Love the video! Thank you a Buck Owens forever fan Dottie DeStadio!😊👍🙏
Always remember this, great asset to the core of country music, a real shame, he never really got the awards of some other's, but he is being remembered now, a sound, that cannot be reproduced!

My great grandmother, Lorena Owens, is his cousin. She told me that she used to play with Buck all the time as kids back in Texas. My dad met him as a kid in the 70s and he told me that he was a real cool dude, a true country boy at heart.
I gained utmost respect for him in 1985, when my wife and I were in the "lounge scene" on Hee Haw with Faron Young. A camera broke, and the whole cast left the set, except Buck. He stayed and entertained the studio audience for nearly two hours, while the camera was being fixed. He had a good heart.
ChaoticGamer, We had so many great singers. I miss them all. 😥😥😥 My great grandparents & my Dad, Mom & us 6 kids listen to all on the Grand Ole Opry. We were young but we all loved music.
I was honored to work for one of Buck's radio stations for many years. Best years of a 40 year career in country radio. Saw Buck many times and have great memories.....Good video.
Tune was too simplistic for me and liked "Act Naturally" much better. For a couple of years I dated an "Old girlfriend" who lived in Bakersfield not very far from the Crystal Palace and we went there a few times. For many years I rode motorcycles with a group who made the 500 mile trek to Death Valley ever year and Buck's place was always a watering hole for the group.
Merle ended up with bucks wife, Bonnie. She was a back up singer for Merle and I believe #2 of 5 wives. It was cool to see a picture of them together again (pun intended) years later in this mini documentary.

Many in the US don't know that Buck Owens, Merle Haggard's families were discriminated against during the 30s and 40s because they were "Okies." They struck up friendships with minorities like the Mexicans, Filipinos and Sikhs who worked with them in the fields of Central Valley Ca and my uncle (a filipino) used to talk so much about Buck Owens and how he remembered he (Buck) drove trucks and finally became a Country Music star. He loved Buck Owens and Merle Haggard (who has also passed). beloved uncle passed away. We played Buck's song 'The streets of Bakersfield' at his funeral because he was a lifelong fan of the Bakersfield sound.
