Putting diamataecous earth into their bedding also takes care of the eggs and the larva that would be there
That's a very good tip, thank you
..but I think diatomaceous earth because its so fine is like breathing in powdered glass. I think the DE does dry out the fleas, but not sure just how safe it is for the dog if s/he breathe it in.
@@jimtheophilou9872 once it’s applied there’s no danger of it being airborne again
@@jimtheophilou9872- been using DE (food grade of course) for fleas with my pets for years- it works and my pets are healthy.
Thank you so much for helping our pets stay healthy using natural products. I live in south Mississippi and we fight fleas all year. My dog is so allergic he looses almost all of his fur and gets yeast infections from all the scratching . I will add this spray to their monthly flea preventative. Take care !
did this work?
My dog lost a lof of her hair from flea allergies with a couple of raw spots. A vet online recommended this recipe that worked wonders: 1/3 baby oil, 1/3 mouthwash (some say plain without the mint but I used the mint), 1/3 water. It really helped more than any store bought remedy. On the nutritional end I cut out kibble and gave her cooked chicken, bone meal chicken ( pressure cooked chicken bones and fat) small helpings, and used a dehydrated liver from amazon. This vet to the stars on one of the cable channels recommends organ meats like liver. She eventually beat the allergy with the food and I was able to stop the anti itch regimen. I wish you well.
@m.c.4510. So did this remedy work for you or not? South Louisiana here, fleas just as bad as south Mississippi!
Thank you Dr. Jones for living in your light and sharing your truth. God bless you.
I had something to share to the people,
I had read a few articles on coconut oil that is liquid at all times even when cold, this is called "fractionated coconut oil". This process removes over 50% of the lauric acid in the oil. Lauric acid is what kills/repels the fleas. I highly recommend using regular coconut oil and melting it in a cup on top of warm oven just to make sure your getting the full benefits of the coconut oil. Thank you all and God please help us get rid of these fleas 😭
Good to know, thank you for sharing:)
Can you possibly do a video on diabetic ketoacidosis in dogs? It came on so fast in my dog it was the first sign she had anything wrong. A lot of other people tell me the same in various FB diabetes support groups. She passed away because no emergency hospital here would treat it. I tried on my own with sub Q fluids, insulin and a glucose monitor. But she still didn’t do well.I would like to know how this could be the first sign of diabetes. I fed her so well and feel awful she had to go through this. Perhaps it’s just age/hormones etc but shocking nonetheless. Or cushings? Your ideas on the subject would be profoundly appreciated. Thank you
Thank you Dr. Jones for very valuable information on making this flea/tick spray. We are having a time this year with the big runner fleas. I will be buying these oils and I already have witch hazel, castille soap and coconut oil. I am also using Selsen Blue Shampoo that you recommended to bath my little Shih Tzu in and it helps so very much with his dry skin and itching. Thank you for so much very valuable information. God bless you.
You would make a great Homeopathic veterinarian. The US needs more! Please consider studying this system of medicine. ETA: The homeopathic medicine for fleas and ticks is Staphysagria 30c. One dose given twice a day. Your spray would be icing on the cake.
Thanks for posting homeopathic remedy.
@@cathytilford388
I usually start giving the medicine to my pug just before flea season begins. In my area that is March. You can add it to their food, hide it in a tasty snack, or tuck it in their gums. Continue dosing until flea season is over.
I have also heard that Psorinum 30c works for fleas too. Do you know which is superior?
@@Hevynly1 It is a nosode and not meant to be used on a daily basis; it’s a remedy that is considered when there are chronic skin disorders, and it is usually used in a 200c. Psorinium is actually uprooting the genetic predisposition; it is getting right down to the DNA. A drawback to Psorinum is that it can be difficult for laymen to find; it is generally only sold to professionals. Staphysagria can be found at any homeopathic pharmacy and health food stores ~ even Whole Foods.
That said, there can be several approaches in treatment, but using Psorinum for the prevention of fleas is not something I have experience with.
I posted several replies in response to Cathy. I’m not seeing them now, so I’ll post them again separately.

You guys need to read through the comments before you get too excited... Most people are saying yay and thanks but hardly anyone is saying this actually works. I have seen some commenters actually try this and say that THEIR DOG GOT FLEAS/TICKS AFTER USING THIS method. My dogs is old and sickly so I want to avoid chemicals as much as possible so I am frustrated that there are so few positive responses to actually trying it

Always fantastic advice thank you 🐾🐾🌟
When it comes to ticks, it's the only time I turn to the pharmaceuticals for my dog. We go hunting and bushwhacking deep in the woods, and had a whole ritual of pre and post journey natural tick treatments. I'd still find ticks on my dog alive and kicking days later, despite a thorough daily check. I honestly believe Bravecto saved my dog from catching Lyme disease.
95% of dogs are naturally immune to lyme disease
I put apple cider vinegar in their water. Live in woods.. keeps ticks off mine 🙂

Hello! Do you have any videos on how to treat dogs diagnosed with heart murmur? I’ve just learned that carrageenan and grain-free diets which contain legume based carbohydrates are bad for a dog’s heart. I’ve always purchased affordable commercial dog food but now I’m trying to switch to healthier, natural food for dogs. On a Sunday a few months back she had about 10 seizure in less than an hour, the emergency vet, after giving her medication to control the seizures and making me think she’s ok because she just needs seizure treatment, offered to euthanize my fur baby because I couldn’t afford to pay all at once the treatments/exams/labs and my fur baby wouldn’t survive the night. I felt lied to; since the seizures had stopped I took my furbaby home and didn’t sleep at all. The next day I took her to a vet close to my home and with the stethoscope she discovered she has a heart murmur. I cannot believe the emergency vet didn’t perform a stethoscope exam. Something so basic. I felt robbed and she would have robbed me of my furbaby too because it’s been months and she’s doing well thanks to the seizure and heart medicine she’s taking. So if you have any other remedies for heart health please share them with us.
I had to make a flea spray recently and during my research found the safest variety of cedarwood oil for pets is: Juniperus virginiana.
James Child could you recommend a reputable place to purchase this oil?
@@msnini2982 For dog flea spray I purchased NOW brand for cedarwood. You just don't want the dog to ingest it. I did realize that if the dog likes to eat coconut oil, then you need to use a different oil in the spray or they'll lick it.

Hi there, I just noticed your new flea and tick spray. I have been using the one you posted in 2019. I was wondering if you could use 1/4 cup hazel witch and 1/4 cup aloe juice instead of the hazel witch with aloe, as I pre purchased many hazel with and aloe separately. Also just wondering how long they last in the bottle as they do go along way.
I thought of a couple more topics for potential future videos. What about intestinal blockages in cats? How to stop cats from eating non food items? Identifying and preventing pyometria in female dogs.

I have been using this on my Pug for two years and this really works, You will need to spray about every 2 to 3 days. but fleas and ticks stay off of him. It also repels flies, gnats, and mosquitoes.

I skipped 6 mos with my other boy and he tested positive for HW Larve., heartguard took care of it well.. The thing is I only gave him the meds only during the season never in the winter to give his body a break. He never tested positive and now they make you do the testing too often ... I need a new type of vet!
May I recommend rotating the neem and the cedarwood oils separately. Ticks and fleas do develop immunity to toxins and pass them on to their offspring. Once they’re starting to not respond to one oil, switch to another. I’m sure there are other antiparasitic, pet safe liquids that can be rotated in too.
I care for myself Holistically, so I care for my pets the same way too. I am a fan of Veterinary Secrets, and thanks, Dr. Jones for the flea spray recipe!🥰

In a previous video you said neem was poisonous for cats. What changed? Our cats have flea issues and I’d like to make this for them but I’m still on the fence about neem oil. Will the cedar wood oil work fine as the deterrent? Thank you!
My guess would be the dilution down to 1 percent. They are prob allergic to much stronger neem oil.

I read some where last summer about using ACV Apple Cider Vinegar with water. I mix a 50/50 and spray my dogs legs and their underside and down their back and have not had anymore flea issue on them. I spray them going out or when they come in. I had a flea jumped on me and that was acting drunk and was able to smash it. Works like a charm.

My husky doesn't do good with vinegar or mint. It dries his skin out so bad! Doesn't bother my pit lab mix though. I'm hoping this works so I can just use 1 thing for both dogs. Saves time & money lol

Im glad this works for you.. I tried this and my dog still had fleas get on him when I take him potty. Hi Dr. Jones, I found that same brand witchazel with coconut water. I use it along with lavender and cedarwood essential oils except I minus out the lemon oil. Saw this on one of your previous videos. My 5 pound toy poodle Khloe has very dry skin so I was skeptical that the lemon oil might be drying to her skin. However, it worked and also makes her smell great. Khloe is 11 months old and thus far her issues have been minor and all solved by your remedies. Thanks and please keep up the good work!! The witch hazel Dr. Jones used was 'Thayer's Witch Hazel with Aloe'.
Witch Hazel can be interchanged with? distilled water and aloe?

Thank you very much for this recipe! LOVE the look the cat gives you when you first start spraying him 😂
That's 'cattitude' 😾🙀
since starting my animals on a prey model diet 20 year ago, (80% raw muscle meat, 10% raw bone, and % 10% raw organs), my animals have not had one clear or tick, EVER! I have not had to put chemicals on them to repel pests. It works.
What exactly are you feeding and how much if I may ask?? I just got a rescue puppy two months ago. She will be 7 months next week. I’m truly confused on what to feed her.
Costco has freezed dried pure liver treats my dog and cat loves them)
We feed our four dogs the same but unfortunately it doesn't keep the ticks away. Maybe you are just lucky 😜
Also feed my Romanian rescue dog 80-10-10 ( Dogs Butcher - UK brand). Has been great for his intestinal/ stomach issues, but he's had a flea problem we just can't shift for a few months now. Think you've been lucky with the fleas and the food isn't a factor.
@@jimtheophilou9872 I suggest you look into adding brewers yeast to your pups' diet. The B vitamins in the yeast are a flea repellant. It may take a couple months to reach maximum effectiveness.
WONDERFUL recipe! Thank you for being a GREAT Vet and sticking to your principles! Love your CHANNEL!
Thank you! I'll try this. Never been keen on Frontline or Nexguard. I love how the animals react. When you sprayed Tula, he's like, "eh"? When you sprayed the cat, he gave you a "i want to kill you" look. lol
I had ordered some flea and tick spray that was all-natural, and it had cedar oil in it. I sprayed it on my cat and on the bed, where both of us slept. After the first night my cat wouldn't come into the room and slept downstairs. She always slept with me. She didn't like it when I put it on her, either. I switched to another brand that didn't have the cedar in it, but had most of the other ingredients. She didn't mind that. Something about cedar is not cat friendly, I think. Walmart has the product I use now that is pretty effective. It is called Natural Care Flea and Tick Spray and is made in the U.S. It is also good for mosquitos. I'm not sure who else sells it, as that is where I buy it. This company also makes a yard spray. Just sharing information of my experience.
I know there are some essential oils that are poisonous to cats. A quick internet search should pull up information on that.
Thank you for that suggestion! I immediately looked it up and was able to find it. Buying this spray ASAP! I’ll also try his once I get the coconut oil.
My cats don’t like the smell of Lemongrass in Wundercide and fight me when I try to spray them. They don’t mind the smell of Cedar wood Wundercide so I switched to that and they don’t fuss as much.
@veepotter307 Cats hate citrus smells. Cedarwood oil has a woody, citrus smell and lemongrass is toxic for cats.
Once again, I've been struggling with flea stuff for some time. I hate to put chemicals on my dogs and cats and here you are days before I was to apply topical against my better judgment! I just ordered everything you mentioned in the video. Thank you Dr Jones!!!!!! 🤗❤ You just saved me HUNDREDS of dollars.
The topicals are not only hard on the dog, but don't kill all the ticks. Go with an oral or natural treatment. In our case natural was not enough, but if your dog just stays in the backyard and you cut the grass, natural may be the way.
@@MF-rw3rb I've found that when I let the back yard get to weedy (grass is not the primary plant back there) the fleas have a field day. I think it's the moisture that they want. Within a couple of days of mowing they seem to be all but gone. Maybe in hiding, but that works for me.

How often do you spray this on dog?
2-3 times a week.
Sadly this doesn't work I've been using it on my cats for 3 weeks now and it made no difference.
If you live in a warm climate like I do or the infestation is heavy, you cannot solely rely on this. You have to vacuum all surfaces and floors daily and dump in a trash can outside immediately after each vacuum. Wash all you exposed fabrics in warm water and Comb with a flea comb thoroughly regularly. unfortunately I still had to use otc flea meds just to get them under control but once you go through all of the steps you could potentially maintain with just this natural spray and combing as long as it’s exclusively an indoor pet. It takes approximately 3 months to break the life cycle so you have to remain diligent. I have 4 cats and a dog so I know it’s a hassle.
Are these really safe for a cat? I worry about when she cleans herself, will ingesting these essential oils make her sick?
Are these ingredients also safe for dogs? Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Geranium Oils
