Monopoly was created as critique of capitalism, remember that
Because any critique of anything in a vacuum is going to turn out messed up. The riots at The Rite if Spring prove that, and the rerun of tbe Satanic Panic. Capitalism is far from perfect, but it allows for creativity and new products. Monopoly doesn't. A better critique should be on the housing cronies or wall street, or even stocks.
No it wasn't, it was a critique of landlords and a proponent of Georgism, which is still a capitalist economic system
Middle school. During an ill-fated game with my family while we were on vacation, I received a lifetime ban from ever playing monopoly again. It was deserved. Things might have been said and pieces thrown. I've been a happier person since the ban. And now you're tempting me back. But I won't go back, I can't go back. I'm banned. For life.
You must return to your throne of capitalist wit and deception! They must be reminded of why you were banned in the first place. Make them feel your power!
Forced my friends to play by the rules once and they all complained until we actually finished the game in one sitting where most of them said they had never finished a game before lol
Yeah 😂 most “house rules” make the game longer like one of the most common house rules I’ve seen is you can’t buy property until you go around the board once (unless you get a card that explicitly said you can buy if unowned)
and that tends to add an extra 2-3 turns with no property however it also allows for a little extra money as you get to pass go without losing anything to property
Another one that I’ve seen -my family plays it for sure- is instead of money from the taxes going to the bank it goes to the center and whoever lands on free parking gets everything in the center this gives more money to the players making it take longer to go bankrupt
I’ve actually seen this be a turning point in a game where someone was struggling with money then got like 5k completely free by landing on free parking they proceeded to win
Then there is the people who ignore auction- meaning someone else will have to land on it to buy it
The rules of monopoly are designed to make the game go by relatively fast
I learned all this stuff from the digital monopoly game by Ubisoft. xD The AI will indeed choke you out of houses.
Just impound > trade with AI > AI will pay the impound fee and trade it back to you. If it isn't patched that is.
The only winning move in monopoly is to never have a game of monopoly anywhere near you.
"You are going directly to jail Mr. Sunshine, don't pass co, don't collect 200 pounds"
My friends get ANGRY when I hoard the houses
Even better: inherit money from the last monopoly winner
I have an even better tip:
Don’t play Monopoly. If you want to have a good time there’s a ton of better board games out there. In my opinion playing Monopoly is like eating French fries without potatoes.
Cool Fact I learned some years ago….
This very game is banned during the Royal Family gathering because it got to out of hand 😂😂
Thank you man, I can't wait to ruin my friendships.
Buy all the houses so no one else can have one
This game is so realistic
Did anyone else notice the satisfactory noise
Not really sure why you would add more houses in. The name of the game is literally Monopoly, that defies the whole purpose of the game. 😂
Not expecting Min/Max strats for Monopoly in my Shorts tab but I'll take it.
'tears families apart'
Yeah that checks out
I'll try this tips and tricks when I reconcile with my family, it's been almost 7 years since we have a meltdown
How to win at monopoly, step 1, discard monopoly
The browns are secret superpowers
What a dystopian game
Go first. That’s the best strategy for success
Nice way to ruin friendships 😂
The ideal way to play is to put all properties up for auction. Otherwise it’s too much about luck.
32 divide by 3 =the amount of property you can get
"Tear families apart" Isn't that an overstatement
"How to win at Monopoly - don't play it. You'll have a happier life!"
You can build hotels on New York avenue because a lot of people land there
I don’t think anyone in my family has ever read the rules to monopoly lol we just play how it seems like u should
Rule 1: Bring a gun
And Don't use the Win money in Free Parking rule. It makes the game longer
Ever tried playing monopoly with real money? Ended in tears and screams.
The only winning move is not to play.
How to win at Monopoly: don't play. Use the free time for something meaningful, like building friendships.
Playing board games is a fun way to spend time with friends and build relationships in my experience
@@MsBrowniepuff Monopoly is a game designed to show why monopolies are bad. There is only one winner and the most cut-throat player wins. Not good for relationships. Try other games.
@@ShawnHCorey no. It was designed during the Great Depression for children and families to play in times of hardships.
@@ShawnHCorey it’s entertaining and has led my friends into late nights filled with laughter and excitement. I get your point, but I still think it’s a fun game.
Bidding should start at the mortgage price
Risk ruins more friendships and family’s in my experience
There's a fair few games with AI players that do the houses trick in the hardest setting, it's really mean but a very legit strategy 😂
So basically buy the most desirable land, and buy all the houses so that nobody can get any? Sounds kind of familiar…
Hoarding houses, hmmm, some people and corporates do that in real life.
@@-.-____-.- in true capitalism. Supply is not artificially limited due to restrictive government regulations. Zoning, parking requirements, height restrictions, city boundaries, environment reviews, red tape prevent construction of new homes in a dense configurations (taller buildings, smaller lot partitions).
I like to play as the shaker. Offer some bogus protection to every property owner and in exchange, they pay me every round.
According to official rules, the bank never technically runs out of houses, if you run out your supposed to make standins.
Another tip: try to buy 1 of each color. Then no one can buy houses as long as you never trade.
Ever since I saw a video talking about the hoard houses strat, I've wanted to do it, but no game I've ever played gets to that point. The houses never get close to running out before someone gets an unlucky roll and has to sell some houses.
And while orange is undeniably the best color, this fact means nobody ever trades to give someone else a monopoly of it, so in a way it becomes the worst color. I much prefer brown and blue because there's only 2 of each. Railroads are also great.
If everyone never bought properties, players will only get richer and richer
ACTUALLY, someone has done the calculation and the best property depends on the number of players. Orange is the best for 2, and you move right for every additional player.
One thing I will never do is play by the rules
Some people by hotels directly, bypassing the need to buy houses (hotels cost 5x house)
Me and my family is about ready to play this
I know its not related but can you Guys Cover whats going on in India?
I thought everyone knew these things 😅 Also, the optimal number of houses is 3, nad the most probable number of the dice is 7, then 6 and 8, 9 and 5...
The real winner's move is to buy the entire row from GO to Jail. Everyone is guaranteed to land on on that row. After going past Boardwalk, and likely light in the pocket after coming from that last and most expensive row, you can hit a player for possibly 2 or 3 hits having the entire row. They have no money, and you keep them down with low payments. Then they hit the beginning of the really expensive stuff.
Upgrade the game and make two jails
My mom divorced my dad because when he won he said, "that's why you just ain't good enough." And my mom interacted him until she found out he had a side chick
Bro the oranges are op
Best strategy is monopoly is just luck
Take over the bank
If I have a monopoly and the money for the house, I don't care if it's Pennies. I'm getting house
Tip 1: Play a better boardgame
Tip 2: When playing monopoly, don't
Tip 3: Instead of using house rules, throw away the game and learn Catan Rules instead
Nah,in my experience blue and purple are the best spots because you land on them alot and can develop them early for very cheap
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
It’s weird seeing these versions of the board, I have a super old one. It has british places like mayfair and trafalgar square
I love this, but you're undervaluing Orange with your probabilities, the reason orange is so valuable is that with a hard 6 or 8, you get out of jail and are forced on to one of those spaces
Plus, you land on New York Avenue if you happen to get the "go back 3 spaces" card on the next Chance space
@@harry4454 Bro doesn’t even have the attention span for a one-minute short 💀
My best tactic is buy all the railroads. Unlike other properties your opponent will ALWAYS be within a possible roll to land on it. Even better to earn 200 per land you only need to invest 800. This is much better than any other property as you would have to invest much more to get this much
Strategy. Tip: read the directions in the box
the pink and orange have the most cheapest house so i bought it all.... i won
Me and my mom have been playing a game of Monopoly for 2 years
Hoard all of the houses, set traps for people who just get out of jail, force land to be sold at below market value through legal loopholes.
I hate the original rules since you need to have the full color set in order to build anything
Orange is good and all but I find I do better with the go to jail corner you get more per hit and if you have everything from railroad to railroad your almost guaranteed to get a least 1 hit per cycle around the board
all those houses can backfire if you draw the card and red is far better for the price and reward along with the frequency
Confusion clear
Trump and Putin should play, while the world watch
toss in the chinese and north korean presidents/top brass and watch the nuclear war happen
If the player who lands on a spot refuse to buy and then the land goes to auction, does the said player who landed has the right to bid for the aforementioned land as well?
Yes they do get to bid 😊
It’s a strategy to send it to auction sometimes because you have the potential to get it cheaper then the listing price
However be warned because there is technically no cap (other then running out of money) so you could also spend twice as much or lose the property to someone else
Thanks ill use these
Here is a tip for playing Monopoly: Play Carcassonne instead. It is a far more enjoyable game in every way possible.
Also, get all the railways!
#0: be a business major and/or a sociopath (the two tend to correlate)
I just remember board walk and park place. My Sister always won. My cousin always won when my Sister played her. I hated it.
i have monopoly on playstation
Very on brand for Vox to teach people how to be ruthless capitalists in monopoly
I once played that game six hours with my family. We didn't notice 😅
What was the longest you played it?
Monopoly games are a multi day affair. I refuse to play them anymore because they just drag on.
We've added more houses just to not let somebody buy all houses, that's kinda unfair.
Of you play by the rules the game gets slower the more pieces you lose
If you didn't throw the board away, did you even play Monopoly?
I simply plead the second.
Step 1: be the banker.
My family plays monopoly and were chill, i dont get the rage lol
First enjoyable vox video
The properties have the wrong names
Also, if the property costs more than any of the other players’ money (and you have more) then auction to save money
No ones talking about park place and boardwalk?!? Wow
I have good friends my friends dont get angry while playing monopoly its my favorite board game
How to win monopoly
Immediately says play by the rules and I go that's the one rule I don't use is the auction rule if somebody does want to buy the property or doesn't have the money the property just stays until somebody lands on it again
Even better, land in jail, NEVER get out.
Once all the properties are bought up, that is
Don’t you have to buy your freedom after three turns?
After your third roll, if you still haven't rolled doubles, you have to pay and leave. You can't stay.
This is a strategy people have used in Monopoly tournaments.
The strategy is to pay to get out ASAP in the early game so you can buy properties, but once most of the properties have been bought and houses are being built. You want to stay in jail as long as possible
