Thanks Ellie , excellent presentation , I will be listening to the Shipping Forecast on Radio 4 on Sunday morning at 05:21 on how strong the wind will be at sea., I live halfway inland between the sea area Forth to the east and Malin to the west
Very many thanks Ellie, I hope everyone in Scotland and other areas affected will keep so very safe tomorrow, it’s never worth going out and putting yourselves at risk, STAY SAFE everyone!!
dont be scared, I think scotland will get the worst of the winds gusting about 80 mph. I'm near the West Coast near Weston-Mare, and I think the wind will gust about 40 to 50 mph. So not to bad and hope my gustbuster umbrella will survive the gusts, fingers crossed.
Why do they name storms. When i was young it used to be a deepening Atlantic low will bring gale force winds to the North of the country. That was it.I was always told never go out in storm force winds.Risk of flying debris.
To help raise awareness of the potential impacts that come with it. Technology has come a long way since then as we have better systems in place now due to the onset of any stormy weather. It helps to draw more attention.
Another comment mentions Storm Babet when apparently someone's house got flooded. Quite a big deal for them I would imagine. Giving it a name enables people to talk about it, rather than "oh that second storm in 2023". Personally I quite like the names.
1:35 Apparently BritishMetOffice has laid claim to the entirety of the Island of Ireland now🧐...or at least..several Counties in *THREE* Provinces of the Republic. NI and I are not one-and-the-same...... *yet* 😈
Please will you include certainty/confidence numbers in your predictions, just like many other countries do. Like "we're 70% confident that this forecast is accurate". It'd really help planning.
It’s really frustrating. All through the week you at least give a hint as to what will happen 2 or 3 days ahead. As soon as the weekend weather arrives that all stops as if Mondays and Tuesdays don’t exist. Is this some weird contract you have with the BBC about Country File or Farming Today? Some of us need to plan. I can get info from other sources which give at least some sort of clue..it’s annoying I can’t get it from you.
Totally agree. Need a week ahead or a 10 day trend on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday so can plan the week better. All the longer range forecasts are bunched up Monday to Wednesday.
Their app tells you 7 days ahead. Countryfile mustn't know about their App and haven't yet sent the heavies round to get that sorted. Absolute conspiracy Nigels even have weather plots. 😂😂😂
The app weather is a bit different though. It doesn't show why they are forecasting what they are forecasting. 50% chance of rain could mean hit and miss showers or a major storm which has a 50% chance of tracking across the UK. When they do a week ahead or a 10 day trend you know what they are thinking. It's better to see the forecast than an app.
The BBC Weather contract hasn't utilised the UK Met Office for about 7 years - though they do still carry Met Office severe weather warnings. The CountryFile and other forecasts are not provided by the Met Office. I'd prefer if they were, and also if there was more detail at weekends and bank holidays as there is during the week here on You Tube, but how many other services are provided in other areas at weekends compared to during the week? Thankfully RTÉ TV and radio forecasts continue to be provided by Met Éireann, though I appreciate that's not much use for people beyond the island of Ireland.
Thanks for the clear and precise presentation - as a hearing aid wearing person it's much appreciated
Lovely to see you back Ellie

a storm is a storm.....what the hell do they need a name for ??
To help raise awareness of the potential impacts that come with it. It draws more attention hence why videos like this get a lot of views.
Just say you don't understand weather forecasting

Didn't make any sense to me !

Don’t the BBC get their weather info from the Meteo Group nowadays?
Is south east ment to be affected
Not to worry, a.
Thank you, climate change. We will deal with you as best we can, while we can....
Whilst climate change is real this a fairly typical autumn storm.
🥱
Thank you, Ellie
