Reed Canary Grass, a New Bedding Alternative for Cows, Pigs and Horses

Traditional #bedding for farm animals such as cows, pigs and horses, is #straw or wood shavings. However, because wood chips are quite dusty and take a long time to decompose, and straw is harder to spread and not as absorbent, there is still room for improvement.
Swedish farmers and researchers at the demonstration plant of the EU-funded GO-GRASS project are looking for alternatives and have developed a process to turn locally grown reed canary grass into sustainable bedding material.
Due to the special briquetting process, the resulting animal bedding has good absorption capacity and is easy to spread; in addition, manure with this material also achieves a higher yield in the biogas plant.
