The Most Versatile and Brutal Mortar System Ever

- The Patria NEMO Container is one of the most effective mobile platforms ever developed. The Finnish 120-millimeter mortar system features a unique design that has resulted in an effective platform that combines firepower, protection, and mobility.
The 360-degree mortar is built into a steel shipping container, which makes it an instant plug-and-play platform thanks to its independent nature. It can be easily mounted aboard 6x6 or 8x8 trucks, small vessels such as patrol boats, or on the ground as an artillery platform.
Patria's NEMO Container features its own power plant, can house three crewmen, and protects against small arms fire, explosives, and nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks. The mortar’s range exceeds ten kilometers, can fire while on the move with lethal accuracy, and can even shoot six projectiles simultaneously to increase instant damage against its target.
Furthermore, the NEMO Container was built with an innovative modular design that allows for future upgrades to make it one of the most mobile, versatile and efficient artillery solutions ever invented. In a few words, the Patria NEMO Container is not just a mortar system, it's a game-changer… - Наука та технологія
I have to say the Finnish army is one of the finest examples of modern capabilities that exist today 😮
CNN says the Ukraines are. Lol
They have the best motivation ever, a genocidal neighbour..
@@Rolf-farmedfacts-supervisoris that why the US is armed to their teeth?
As a Norwegian, I will begrudgingly agree.
@@lancekilkenny721 Øyh! En landsmann i skyttergraven?
If the NEMO container system has a mass of 11400 kg including 100 rounds + 3 crew, then an empty container might be transportable by CH-47F Chinook. Consequently a couple of CH-47s could drop off a supplied unit on a mountain top landing zone and establish a precision munitions artillery base in minutes. That is very impressive.
A Chinook F can lift it, not sure as to what altitude though. The heavy lift cargo planes can certainly shuttle them with no issues.
Double barrel AMOS can deliver 16 rounds simultaneous impact. We have that system on part of our Patria 8X8 AMV.
Finland:
- How many of these do you want guys?
Poland:
- Yes
Poland can wait in line behind Ukraine. Put those right in the lead breakthru formation behind mine clearing and tanks with ifv follow up. clear a lane to the trench while dropping mortars have a ifv stop at each and finish clearing trench while rest of grp continues on
Poland developed its own "Rak" (cancer) self propelled mortar system.
Imagine a 400m container ship where there’s a mortar on top of every stack of boxes…
I’d hate to be a pirate anywhere near that.
Great idea!
I guess that would be overkill for most actual armies, let alone commercial ships.
bruh, nobody gonna pay for that waste...
@@paladropeople will buy anything that shreds savage pirates!
@@mikeycraig8970 You know, there are other problems, other than pirates, that a mortar barrage is more proper solution to.
The humour of this proposal might have escaped some commenters here.
Finding Nemo just got interesting.
Now Nemo finds you!
LMAO 🎉
😂
Dammit, witty😂
The shipping container sized mortar is fascinating. It could easily be mass produced turning any flatved truck into a mortar platform.
I wonder what other types of guns they could put on it?
I don’t think they need to. The main gun works as a mortar, artillery field piece and a cannon. The container idea would probably make a good anti-air platform etc.
AS a retired Mortar Man, I especially like the direct fire mode, and that the crew can operate the mortar while buttoned up
Neat design! Their concept of inexpensive, low maintenance, flexible and durable will be what's next in military procurement.
This is an excellent way to mass firepower and install it on a wide variety of platforms. It's far easier to manufacture a weapons system and store it and then attach it to other vehicles than to build it exclusively for one platform. The next problem it creates is that a military needs to make sure that it has enough compatible vehicles without causing itself to be short in other areas like logistics. Since it would certainly work on many civilian vehicles, it's perfect for national defense.
I agree. They also didn't mention that its loaded weight is 11,400kg and Chinook max underslung lift is 12,000kg. So it could be air portable (barely) as well. I wonder if they can air drop it from something like a galaxy.
The size makes it easy to ship on rail ways. The trucks it mounts on is common, this increases the utility of buying more of the platforms.
Imagine the firepower of a freight train of those containers... Dark Tech indeed. The Finns are a no-nonsense People. Welcome to NATO, Finland 🇫🇮 🇬🇧
Self contained weapons systems utilising the universal shipping container are the way forward. They turn any platform capable of mounting a shipping container into a weapons system. Trains, trucks, ships of all sizes and stationary installations.
I’m thinking you might have a point.
Looking at the wheeled himars and the wheeled 155 shows what lower cost non tracked/ lighter armoured vehicle can do.
With a modular box it can be stored indoors, shipped on any vehicle, vessel, aircraft, and cargo strapped onto a wheeled or tracked chassis.
3:21 Unlike said in the video, NEMO is a lighter single barrel version of the *dual barrel* AMOS system.
Honestly, would be great for coastal landings and for island nations in general. With spotter drones you have active fire support to clear the way for landings, nowhere near calling in a battleships main guns but it fits on such a small boat similar in size to the landing craft. Much more affordable.
It is great for quickly setting up static defenses too. Some earth moving equipment to build ramparts and a slot for the unit. Stick one there, move on to the next.
Only the turret shows from the front and sides.
@recoil53 only downside is the relatively short range for a static defence, would be quick but it's like setting up a target that can't shoot back at most arty.
Can you imagine this adapted to fire from a C-130 gunship? Less recoil than the 105 and numerous warheads..
Why the NEMO hasn't been adopted yet is bizarre. A 120mm mortar bomb can disable any APC, IFV, etc in existence now and developing one for attackicking tanks even from the front with such a big shaped charge could easily take out most tanks.
The Navy and Marines are constantly looking for ways to defend regular and amphibious ships could easily use this. I recall readying that their is a RAP round for this with a 2o km range.
It could be attached to a amphibious vehicle and put on the deck of the amphibious ship. Why more of the Swedish and Finnish patrol boats arnt going into service for use in the Pacific with these is negligence.
I think the Indonesians are working on a patrol boat using a Cockerel 105mm 0r 120mm turret.
Haevily armed patrol boats operated by Navy SBS and brown water Navy and Marines could be made modular. It doesn't have to be all plug and play. With this NEMO container it could be load, secure and play. No doubt its pricey but the thing that matters here is that it can be easily loaded and shifted between ships. This is a less expensive HIMARS and with a broader capability for close in defense on sea and land.
It absolutely does not fire six rounds simultaneously!
It can fire six rounds at varying degrees in quick succession to hit the target simultaneously!
I wouldn't have felt the need for the correction except for the fact you said it about 3 times during the video.
Also,...Pronounce chassis CHASS-ee (singular) and CHASS-eez (plural).
He mispronounces chassis on almost every video and people always point it out in the comments. I think at this point he's just trolling everyone by pronouncing it wrong.
"He" is an AI reader.
@@MojaveMark Oooooohhhhh dude, are you for real?? Like you know that for a fact? Cause in all these videos I'm like "How does this guy not see everyone in his comments telling him how to pronounce chassis??"
@mjames7674 That maybe the case! It is definitely getting harder to tell. I don't know if it should be stated as fact, though unless someone has inside knowledge! If it is it's a really good one.
Well done by our lovely neighbors to the east! Hyvää työtä!
They really outdid themselves!!! Outstanding!
A mortar, artillery and light tank all in one very mobile platform that stretches the budget 🤓. Excellent
What an incredibly innovative design. A shipping container mortar system ! Pure genius ! 😂

@@dantakeoffhow do you know that???

The vehicle was hit with RPG-7 rockets but it managed to fire back and returned to base without any help required. A turret gunner getting crushed can happen to ANY vehicle with one.
Impressively versatile piece of kit
That is impressive. Really impressive.
Interesting design. Wonder if it works on commercial vehicles. It would definitely make it more worthwhile if a standard cargo truck could just carry one around.
Looks like any hook will pick it, it’s less than 25,000lbs loaded
@@HubertofLiegeAny vehicle that can handle the recoil can in theory carry the system. Your idea is workable in principle.
A clever design from a logistical point of view.
Cool kit!
Great work buddy you always put out good content 👍
I made the mistake of drinking a alcoholic beverage ever time Dark Tech pronounces the word chassis as chass-is, unfortunately I have now turned into an alcoholic :(
"Moreover" is my drinking word as well.😅
It turned me into a newt.
Impressive...
Imagine a series of these with auto cannons and the like, electronics suite for targeting and drone communications package, Allowing these to be placed self contained on vehicle or ship and or even a base defense. The rapid deployment and flexibility would be awesome.
We'll never get something like this in the US. 1) It works. Our defense contractors like errors and bugs so they can constantly make upgrades. 2) It's cheap. Our defense contractors like things like putting jet engines in tanks to drive prices up. 3) It's efficient. We don't like that because it means you need fewer of them, and our MIC love to keep those orders coming. If we were going to get an American version of this, it'd weigh 4 times as much with armor to protect from IEDs. It'd have a laser or railgun on it because those are the glamour projects. It'll have to have a stealth coating on it because reasons. It would definitely be "modular" because that's a term the DoD loves, but the modules would be so big you could only fly them on a C-130 and that's if you spend 2 days taking all of the modules apart to get it into the shipping container(s). It'll have to be powered by a lithium ion battery or biodiesel because of new green priorities, and the seats will have to accommodate a 350 lb woman who thinks she's a man who is now the poster genderqueer of the Army to show just how progressive we are now. If you want to see expensive, wasteful junk, go check out what the Congresscritters are telling us we must BY NOAWW.
I have good news for you my friend, USA and Patria has been developing new ground weapon platform that aims to replace MBT's.
Modularity at its best
Because it can fire on the move. Must be pretty immune to Counter Battery Fire.
Nuclear seriously wow.
Very cool
You have to hand it to the Fins they are fiercely independent people and from what I hear once they know you and friendship made then its a solemn trustworthy friendship (thats what I read ) this weapon is very impressive and exceptionally thought through.
Funny side note, in 2:22 VR glasses says varjo, shadow in Finnish.
most bad ass container home out there
No joke, this is a vastly better mortar system than I worked with when I was in the army. As the Ukraine war shows, artillery still matters. This thing is almost immune to counter battery fire.
This thing can use smart ammos too, gives a bit more advance for it against... well almost anything
That appears to one awesome weapon system. Congrats to the Finnish military to having a great system.
I want one!

Interesting :D
Tbh the thought of this being a container sized piece of equipment is really amart because of the wide variety of vehicles/trailers it could fit on .
I think Finland in particular has a pressing need to continue to innovate, and to keep their armed forces highly trained and combat ready.
More than once in recent years, Putin has made known his desire to conquer Finland and bring it back within the Russian empire.
it's a fly-by-wire cannon
Basically even a cargo ship can become a battleship.
The CCP have been fitting artillery in shipping containers for a long time. The Patria appears to be be much better design. Sadly Im pretty sure the CCP are already plagiarizing this as of now.
I’ll take three
With these modern day deadly weapons to be used, i see to fight back against them i see the low yield atomic cannons or atomic short range missles to counter them...
100 rounds turret toss .. scary.
Do one on the Typhon Weapon System capable of firing SM-6 and Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Me like!
Easy to automate and dot about the countryside.
It is from Finland yes.
I'm sure our Marines loved the hell out of this. This should scare the Russians into next week.
You had me at air conditioning
Okay. Hear me out. Load a bunch of these containers onto a cargo plane then liberally parachute them over enemy territory while letting them blast away while Bald Eagles fly by and the sound of Fortunate Son blares from each container (or Flight of the Valkyries).
I know the Fin's like their METAL!!!!!!🤘but DAMN
Nothing short of a brillant idea, just make a modular tank.
Dismounted, it becomes "Fodder" for counter battery. A real force "Unmultiplier".
No none sense. Simply kick ass.

Such a simple but very efficient design. Fins will make an great addition to NATO. It just shows a threat is very real.

But the Mjolnir autom.mortar-vehicle can also fire while driving?
Just need the link on where to order one

It seems in Ukraine that a mine clearer/tank would be the optimal vehicle on the heavily mined fields over there.
Container that can kill 😅
make it spin morter in the middle so it full atto as it go a round in the car it reloads and by the time it out it fire so get it full atto then get good with it
U dont find nemo , NEMO finds u
How do they keep the drones from destroying it?
Of course using counter drones. :P
Chass-is a valid pronunciation according to the Webster Dictionary.
But if it is not on a mobile platform at all times .... Doesn't radar, that detects the origins of shells, make it obsolete?
America needs these to replace their old towed 120mm
Shoot and scoot? Imagine the guys in that 'dropped-off' static container. Fire 6 rounds; right lads, leggit, run away run away!
That us why they mount it in other turreted viechles like Patria.

Comment for the algorithm
10km is insane for a mortar with that fire speed.
We had a max. of 8 km before…so…meh
You mean a perfect target for conterbaterifier.?
Isn't everything a target for counterbattery ? Hence high mobility capabilities.
But it would be damn nice to be able to drop these in any F.O.B and have that firwpower on demand
What kind of armor does it have?
Depends what you attach it to. Swedes for example uses it on their CV-90's, there are double barreled version of this thing too.
Mechanized infantry just became way cooler
The marines tested it AND!??
It's a good mortar weapon Finnish made 👍👍👍👍...but what it lacks is protection, it will be exposed to enemy's kamikaze drones, provide it protections ....
Very interesting, and looks like a really versatile weapon. The question I would ask is how is the vehicle that carries it designed to handle mines? That never seems to form part of the testing routine... or maybe they just don't publish that sort of thing? 🤔
It shouldn't be charging through a mine field, it's short range artillery support.
It shouldn't have great use in an anti-insurgency campaign either.
It sits just behind the front line.
Can it neutralize helicopters or any other aircraft?
00:55 SISU!!!!!!
Why not a SISU while we are in Finland? The other countries can have their own trucks if they absolutely want to.
Eastern Nato states need these on stand by. Send a few to Ukraine for field use.
