  • There are options to install rubber gym flooring over top of existing carpet flooring, without the need for tape or adhesives. Depending on whether your carpet is plush, hile pile carpet, or other types, the options can be different.
You can find some of our rubber flooring options here:

I'm looking to use interlocking cork tiles instead of rubber (since VOC's make me feel ill). My main concern is walking on interlocking tiles and causing them to buckle. So far all I can find is either 12x12 or 24x24 sized tiles. Do you think that tiles of those size might come un-interlocked with general use? Example: I walk from one side of the gym to the other and I step on the left edge of a tile. Can a soft surface like a carpet cause the right edge of the tile to rise up? The carpet I have is the same that's at the 00:40 second mark of your video.
    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, interlocking cork tiles are not something we would recommend for fitness spaces. Cork flooring absorbs moisture and can dent and scratch very easy which does not make it a great option for a gym. Please note, not all rubber flooring has high VOC's. Matter of fact most high quality rubber floors designed specifically for indoor fitness usage should have very little VOC's. For example, our GatorLOC interlocking tiles have VOC levels of less than 1/2 of a percent

How thick should the plywood be if I'm putting the rubber tiles over plush carpet?

The type and pile height of the carpet will certainly be a factor in this determination but a good rule of thumb would be to use something between 1/2" and 3/4" thick. Please feel free to send a picture of your carpet to info@perfectsurfaces.ca if you require further assistance.

Can rubber go over vinyl? Is there a way to protect the vinyl.

Yes, you can definitely lay rubber flooring over vinyl. If you use a high quality rubber product like the VersaRUBBER sheets no further protection will be required between the vinyl and your rubber. You just want to avoid products that need to be glued or taped as these products will potentially damage your vinyl when you try to remove them down the road. Hope that helps but feel free to reach out with any further questions.
