Btw the band had two drummers from 2013-2020, secondguy was Eric Moore, who was also the band’s manager for a good while
amazing, these guys are soo talented.
PS: they just started the second leg of their US tour last night and they live stream all their shows on their UA-cam channel for free!!! always an amazing time checking them play live
ooooh definitely checking it out...thanks!
The Grateful Dead also had two drummers. Supposedly King Gizz is Trey's (from Phish) favorite band. He was at their red rocks show in 2021.
Makes sense after Phish King Gizz is my second.
2023*
They didn’t play RR until 2022 and was at the 2023 show when he told them they were his favorite band
he was also at Forest Hills last year
That's sooo cool.....really digging these guys!
Billabong Valley live on KEXP, the microtonal journey is one of the most important elements of the band, mostly 3 albuns, Microtonal banana and K.G and L.W.
ok ok.....this journey is fun as hell!
@@DadJams All their albuns have at least 2 or 3 songs that are trully great, it's a long fun journey.
my favorite live by them is "Let Me Mend The Past (Live in Madrid '19)"
it's from the same album as head on/pill
ok ok, definitely checking it out once I'm through this journey!
Time for album 3, “Float Along - Fill Your Lungs”! This is where they really start cookin up some good shit, this song is fucking insane. We skipped over album 2, “Eyes Like the Sky,” since there aren’t any videos, but its not a particularly eventful one in comparison to everything else and you can always head back later if you’re curious.
Here’s a quote from Stu about this one:
“This is the record where we started to play together for the first time. Like that kind of in the pocket intuitive feeling you can have while playing with certain people. We were playing a lot of shows and had started jamming and improvising a lot live. Out of the ether came Head On/Pill. It was short at first but it just kept fucking growing like pond scum. We thought we had better record it before we forgot it so we spent a day with Paul Maybury and laid the beast to rest.
Eric's almighty return to the drum kit here too (Eric’s their second drummer - yes, they had two drummers at once for a while - up until around the time they left Flightless Records). Praise the lord. Although he had been a drummer for years, we had him for some reason playing keyboards and prancing around on stage with a theremin. Two kits just seemed louder and funner to me. We went bush with the rest of the album. Home recordings made in Darraweit Guim, Deniliquin and Anglesea. Pretty fuckin aussie really. We recorded all day and sat around the campfire all night.
It seems funny to look back on but I think we were trying to make something psychedelic. And for us at the time, I suppose it was our psychedelic record. We were experimenting with synthesisers, the sitar and some odd time signatures for the first time. Music was starting to unravel and we were pulling the thread. Plenty more string to unravel though! Here’s hoping you can find some enjoyment in this loose ball of vaguely associated tunes. Love, stu”
Stu seems awesome!!! Thanks for watching!
What a tune, this was probably their first 'hit' song. Keep up the reactions mate its gonna get really good soon
I'm here for it! Thanks for watching!
Head on is the first part. Pill is the fast part
“Screw my head on”
“I ate the wrong pill”
Pill is what he sings with his guitar
ahhh that makes sense! Thanks!
Live gizz is the best gizz. Also I recommended on the first video you gotta check out “The (evil) River” live at Red Rocks ‘22
ok ok added to the request list, thanks for watching!
@DadJams Love the videos and your energy man. Keep on rockin 🤘🏻
@@aidenknight7575 THANK YOU!!!
@@DadJams No problem been waiting on the reaction. I take it you loved it
I have this on vinyl. The last song is float along feel your lungs, which is what the album is called. You should check out the live version from Asheville of this year.
Ok ok, added to the request list….thanks for watching and stay tuned!
This is studio Head On/Pill with a live video. You still need the proper live stuff
yeah, the audio from this live video is the album audio
@@tillzillzits not a live video, they only filmed the studio session
@@srpalme449 my apologies, I know it is, but the band and Old Dad both refer to it as a live clip. more than anything I was confirming it wasn't live audio
Live stuff is coming once I'm through the music videos....stay tuned!
"why would you have two drummers playing the same thing?"
exactly
hahahahah, I was perplexed.
damn, seems like the score got cut from the video cause it ended😅 bit of a cliffhanger!
ahh dammit!
The two drummers do a lot of neat stuff. In the “I’m in your mind” suite one of them takes a break and the other keeps going. Some songs they have one play straight and the other do fills. And sometimes they play different rhythms that interlock. Like one doing offbeat high hats and one being on beat. Make it feel like 16th notes with panning. The other drummer left in 2020
the two drummer move is awesome, love it!
You gotta do reactions to actual live shows - I'd suggest Magma at Red. Rocks '23. Their lives shows are amazing & they work a lot on transitions & blending songs. After listening to Nonagon Infinity & Ice, Death, etc. you will need to listen to Iron Vultures - Live mashup of People Vultures & Iron Lung
I second this, Red rocks ’23 Magma is a strong contender for their best performance ever, alongside The evil river.
Definitely doing live stuff once I'm through the videos!
that's a sitar!
that's what it is! Thanks!
It's gonna be a while before Dad gets to the really good stuff (2016 onwards)
We're getting their though!
Their live jam stuff is even better than this because they weave in teases for other songs or transition back and forth between songs
that's what I hear! Definitely doing some live stuff once I get through their videos! Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
Their early stuff isn't as good as their later stuff but it's still a good project to go through them all. And yes early King Gizz had two drummers
I'm here for it!
Wait till u reach 2016 onwards
we're getting there!!!
Eric their 2nd drummer left sometime around.... 2018?? summat like that.
left after the release of KG in 2020
so now just 1 drummer?
work this time absolutely needs to be the cut from oddments you check out, specially the red rocks 22’ version (or any labeled V2)
trust me, the live version makes the song 100x better
I'm starting to learn their live stuff is insane BUT I have to get through this journey with the music videos before I do the live stuff....stay tuned!
sitar gizz >> this shit will change you live
on it!
oh no, the video ended before you finished your final thoughts
ahh shit!
The score got cut off :,(
ahh wtf....
Why not have two drummers?
why not!!! Maybe add a third just to see how it goes?
@@DadJams lol All right. I mean Amby does play some percussion
@@rrelder13 hahaha, let's do it!
You should listen to the new song Phantom Island. And buy your tickets for next years tour.
The second drummer Eric is worse than useless. He was holding Cavs back. Hence them having 1 drummer now.
Wow rude, cavs has definitely improved significantly since Eric left but that does not mean that Eric was a bad drummer. Without the two drummers songs like crumbling Castle just wouldn't sound the same
Eric definitely contributed less than Cavs in terms of studio recording frequency but this take is astronomically bad and based on nothing imo
I can't do the new stuff until i'm through the chronological order but can't wait as I've heard it's amazing!
