I have told my daughter that they will play Angelina's songs at my funeral when my time has come.
Angelina has said that she's a shy person, but when she sings, she goes into her heart and becomes the song. She is truly a once in a lifetime gift to the world.
In the last minute of this song it seems like she uses at least 4 different techniques/voices. I think that some singers probably have built entire worldwide careers on just a single one of these techniques. Then this 15 year old genius is able to combine them brilliantly and perfectly in a 30 second run. Unbelievable!

Val, I have always felt that Angelina’s intuition is exceptionally sensitive. Add that to her unusually high level of intellect, wisdom and maturity and we have an artist that once she is ready to begin to focus on her music career she will shake up the music industry. She will single handedly bring the jazz genre back to prominence while introducing it to the younger generations that have never listened to jazz until hearing Angelina perform it. Her trajectory is unlimited.
Yes, Angelina has had her own trying and anxious moments, that’s kind of what her song “ Seventh Heaven” was about. Seventh Heaven Falls heavy on her shoulders as she sang it, she wants to love the person looking back at her in the mirror. And then we have this incident with her grandmother in the hospital it was very stressful and emotional for Angelina, plus the myriad of other things that go on in her line of work, so to speak, including the loss of her grandfathers, and then the scare with her grandmother, took a lot out of her, and you will notice before the song starts in this video, she is extremely attached to her grandmother. Her grandmother is everything to her obviously and I think a big part of her back bone, her number one mentor. And she knows the world is expecting a lot out of her, “so go easy on her,” she’s just a child, making many adult decisions on a child’s shoulders, she had to choose, what she chose to do.” What a wonderful young woman, and super naturally talented. And thank you Valerie for your astute observation.

Nailed... Look at all the expectation, alone here in the comments. In the age of 15 people are working on their identity, experimenting, changing looks, breaking free, have to deal with changing moods, fall in love, in her case nearly publicly, or she has to invest in keeping that private. And all the responsibilities, you are faced with, when you become grownup. While still protected and guided by family, who she loves, the desire for independence might be growing... And, empath she is, all these different vibes and feelings... So let's go easy on her... Up to now she has the ability, to get all of this in the songs, she sings, interprets, writes. So, let's get lost in the moment, enjoy, and let her be free.

You expressed exactly what I was thinking, but better than I could, or would have. I read a comment shortly after Angelina released this, saying it was about Adele's divorce and life, and how could Angelina even hope to understand what Adele was feeling. I replied that I didn't think Angelina was singing about Adele's divorce, but about her own life, just using the words of the song with different emphasis on them to tell "her" story. Yes, a lot is expected of this young lady now that she has signed with Republic Records, and we shouldn't be so demanding, just go easy on her because she has things to deal with that none of us see.

There are not many of them but I think that Angelina might be true empath. Many people are empathetic, which means they can understand others feelings. But a true empath can literally feel what someone else feels.
That would explain how she always been able to convey songs in a way that should be impossible for someone her age to do.
Angelina is definitely something very special. It's so much more than her talent... she is also such an amazing human being.

I've long believed that success in art lies more in the depth of emotion it inspires in its audience than in the intent of its creator. Here Angelina, who is clearly an Adele fan, has internalized this song in a way that is meaningful to her. And the result is art which is related to Adele's, but which very much reflects a very personal meaning.
The moment they show her grandmother and then her leaning on Angelina's shoulder set the stage for an emotional mood for those that know the story behind them, brilliant. For me it made the song carry that emotion through. Angelina is a very special soul and people are recognizing it. By the time she is ready to take the world on her own she will touch millions. Great reaction Valerie, looking forward for more.

I agree, there is no ugly comparison needed. One can enjoy either and both. To parafrase Joni Mitchel, art is touching souls and my favorite musicians surely touch mine. This cover touches mine a bit more than the original but I enjoy both.
Thanks for the perceptive reaction. Angelina emotes from her soul and is willing to share even the most personal experiences with us (like her Grandma’s surgery). This emotional openness is on full display when she sings also - it connects the listener to her and we get to experience and relate to the song’s meaning in a deeper way.

Another great reaction/analysis of Angelina's cover. It's so great to see her cuddling with her grandma Mery, who recently had cancer surgery that scared Angelina & all her "Angels." Hopefully, she will have a complete recovery & be around for a long time. She is Angelina's soulmate, mentor & best friend. Now that Republic Records has taken over Mery's filming job of AJ, she can sit back, relax & watch this amazing artist that she helped create. The pianist, Rob Christie, is her mentor at RR & is the Director of their studio in LA. He is also a 2-time Grammy winning music producer, as well as a great guitarist & pianist. I read a comment recently that when asked what it was like working with Angelina & he said he thought he could learn some things from her, or something to that effect. That shows the level of respect she has at her record label.

I loved your reaction, Valerie. I've probably heard this performance over 50 times now, and I marvel each time at Angelina's ability to deliver such deep emotions. It is not possible for me to get through this without tearing up. And the same is true of her other "sad song" performances. She possesses something intangible that goes right to the heart. Over and over again I read comments from her fans that are basically saying the same thing. They are attracted to her ability to go right to the heart and make it "bleed". Her fans are very empathetic, and she touches their "soul". Empathy comes from the hard knocks of just living and experiencing the pain of life. That's one reason why her fan base is older---they've been "down the road" and can relate to the lyrics of a "sad" song. But only when someone like Angelina can deliver those lyrics with such emotional depth. She is one of a kind, and the greatest singer of her generation (IMO). Again, great reaction, Valerie. xoxo

The song is very beautiful and emotionally very personal to Adele, but I loved Angelina's ability, at her age, to be able to immerse herself so deeply in the soul of the song, with her usual naturalness and her unique and fascinating way of give it to us. I like all types of music but most vocalist don’t draw me in and entice me to stay to the end of the performance. After catching one of the multitude of performances on the internet by Angelina I was hooked to the nth degree and I had to feed my addiction. I had to listened to each and every performance over and over again even though some were songs I did not care for in the past. When Angelina Jordan, the once in a lifetime prodigy, performs her ART she takes the mundane and makes it ethereal. I don’t know how she does it but please, AJ, carry on.
Wholeheartedly agree, Valerie! Angelina can provoke a bittersweet emotional response with the texture and coloring of her voice. She can't possibly have experienced, at her tender age, the angst and distress of broken hearts. But there it is, pouring into your ears. Amazing!
Valerie, this song is also about making choices when you are very young. AJ had to make many hard choices about her career when she was very, very young. I think that's what she's feeling here.
That’s quite insightful. She did leave her home and her country to come to United States. Even though that choice was good for her coming career, I can see the loss of living so far away from loved ones.
@@VocalSplendorStudiosValerie -- yes, I agree about her choice to go to LA. But she made major choices much earlier -- not to monetize her childhood like (for example) Jackie Evancho did with Simon Cowell and David Foster. She trusted her family to let her grow at her own pace, and that was trust well-placed. The homage to her grandmother in the intro to this video is such important context to her rendition of the song. AJ didn't "have the time to choose" or to "feel the world" around her before she had to make choices, but she followed her family's advice, and of course that's come with pluses and minuses. This, to me, is one of the many reasons that AJ is so very special. Not only is she a brilliant singer, musician, performer -- she is also willing to be vulnerable, to show her love for her family. I think she is talented enough and strong enough to forge her own path, even if it means swimming upstream against many of the music industry forces that just want to capitalize on her talent on least-common-denominator terms.
Outstand reaction as usual Valerie, you pointed out the similarities between Angelina and Adele went she is singing a Adele cover . However, Angelina projects so much more emotion and feeling into Adele's lyrics. Their are not many current singers that can match Adele's ability to write a song that tells a story of conviction. Angelina has all those qualities and talent to follow the foot steps of Adele and established herself as a future Super Star.
Her gestures and other subtleties really help immerse us in the experience of her performance. Notice how her hands go up in the air when she sings "I give up". Also, you picked up on her emphasis on "chance". I noticed that she pronounces it exactly like Adele does - "chaince". Another example of the visual experience is how grandmother Mery is in the beginning of the film which strongly imparts Angelina's feelings for her to us, especially after Mery was just in the hospital.

You did it right. Watch Adele first, then Angelina. Great anticipation waiting for your reactions Adele is so smooth and polished. She knows who she is and is comfortable with her fantastic writing and vocal talents. Angelina is still learning about herself but her vocal talents are already unbelievable with more yet to come. Her song writing is way beyond what todays youth is used to, and the average teenager would have a hard time understanding the feelings behind her lyrics. I think Angelina is way ahead of 95% of most singers for expressing emotions, that's what she does best.

When I first heard Angelina sing the phrase, "...it probably doesn't even show," it sounded so familiar to me. At first I couldn't place it, and I had to listen to the song a dozen times before it finally came to me. It was Maria Muldaur, who was one of my favorite artists of the late 70's and early 80's. I always loved the wispy, ethereal quality to Maria's voice. And here I heard that same characteristic in Angelina. It is said Angelina has 1000 voices. Make that 1001.

I've listened to this Angelina cover many times over now. Val, I keep thinking, with the emotion she gives here and knowing she hasn't experienced any part of a divorce, the parents or the child of divorce, is it just possible she is drawing the feelings and emotions from the lost experiences she may have missed as a child? I don't think they are regrets, she's too young for that, but maybe feels a bit cheated for her rapid speed to stardom. She is just so sweet to everyone around her and seems to give her time so willingly. In the future, i hope she can find time just for herself.

Wisdom is so rare in general, and it is super-rare among the young. I think the source of Angelina's wisdom is that she is always listening, even when performing. She understands the value of humility--that conceit and presumption block us from perceiving life as it truly is.
I would compare her to Milarepa, the Tibetan sage who taught by spontaneously composing songs. He is depicted in statues and icons with his hand to his ear in a listening pose.

No matter which version you think is better, I don't think at this point any reasonably honest person can deny that Angelina is the overall better vocalist. Up to now I might have said that Adele is the more powerful belter (a quality that I feel is vastly overrated) but now I think Angelina is at least her equal in that, and superior in pretty much every other way. Adele still gets the songwriting. nod of course, but then again Angelina isn't even old enough to drive in a lot of places, so she has plenty of time and life experience to get to that level.
Agreed…I love Angelina…but Adele is also on a level of her own…vocally, and as a song writer…we will have to wait and see if Angelina ever reaches Adele’s son writing abilities…there is a lot of time, when you take account her age…

Many superb and celebrated vocalists never write a single song. Celine Dion, Elvis Pressley, many others. Is song writing an absolute requirement for you? That's more pressure you're putting on Angelina.

The oldest singing soul I´ve ever heard in my whole life. It´s nearly unbeliveble how she nailed an Adele song which isn´t much older than a few days. And it´s not all about her pefect techniques,
it´s the deepness which came from her inner soul.

As usual; AJ has taken this to an ethereal level she is without a doubt a genius. There is something that is so special about AJ and It is not just her wonderful voice; it is her total being that draws one in.

I definitely agree about how special Angelina is with just her voice and a piano or guitar. It seems to me many singers rely on other instruments to fill in the void between notes, or even to mask the faults in their own voice. With Angelina, there's nowhere to hide, it's just her voice and one instrument, and she fills in the voids with her runs and inflections and intonations. What a remarkable young lady!
Adele knows about Angelina and had to agree to a deal between Sony and Republic for this professional studio produced version to get released with RR stamp on it. Heck Rob the Grammy winner pianist and sr RR exec prob had the sheet music before Adele dropped her song to work on Angelina’s TicTok teaser with piano accompaniment.
Angelina, as she always does, is singing her own heartfelt emotions- not Adele’s- about the lack of informed choices and bitter consequences when we’re young. Like Adele not realizing marriage and parenthood and superstardom at 19 forced impossible uninformed choices and awful loss. Maybe for Angelina it’s the uninformed choice to be a superstar when she was a small child. Or how she reacted to her father leaving the family. Who knows. But I think both Adele and Angelina are pleading for their families? fans? the music industry? to go easy on them. We have to do our part as both Adele and Angelina fans/ critics.

NEWS!! - NEWS! Angelina Jordan has the opening soundtrack in a new movie; is a 2021 American romantic comedy film directed by Peter Hutchings. It is based on a novel by Sally Thorne. The film stars Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell.
Not enough credit is given to Angelina's grandmother. It was she, a child prodigy
herself, who knew form first hand experience of her own that a small amount of
babies, like she herself, could absorb music and lyrics at a very early age after
birth. This proved true with regard to Angelina, for her grandmother had her singing
jazz by the extraordinarily young age of 1-1/2. Only someone who was a child prodigy
herself would even attempt something like this. With regard to Angelina's performance
it should be noted that being rooted in jazz she is able to apply nuance and inflections
that she heard from jazz greats like Billie Holiday (old school jazz) and Amy Winehouse,
the most uniquely different jazz singer of all time. Adele is great, but there is no way a
non-jazz singer like her can match the passionate responses that a true jazz singer can
apply to a heart felt ballad like the present Queen Of Jazz, Ms. Angelina Jordan Astar.
Out of the 20 or more young women doing Adele's cover of "Easy On Me" there are several very good ones including two I know of that have record contracts. One is "MADILYN" a past contestant on AGT she has far more views than Angelina 493K two weeks ago. I watched her sing, and she puts a lot of what she considers emotion into her singing, and a great deal of hand motion.. She may have watched Angelina, and is trying to copy her style. Angelina cleaned her clock. Nobody can top Angelina for soul, and honest emotion. You cannot fake soul, Angelina was born with it. At age 77, I probably will not be alive to see it, but I predict Angelina will be world famous by the time she is 20 years old. She will eclipse Billie, and all the rest.
I love when Angelina performs in these stripped down productions with just a piano or guitar because it makes for a more intimate and personal experience for her listeners. There are no over-the-top and unnecessary distractions that take the listener’s attention away from the singing performance.

Angelina deeply touches my heart and soul unlike any other singer I have heard. Her vocal technique(s) are breath taking and stunning. She’s still only fifteen and yet she has the unique ability to perform sublime vocal gymnastics and do it with with incredible feel, ease, taste and timing.
