- Norges Skaal, was first written in 1771 by Johan Nordahl Brun in Copenhagen during the period when Norway was in a personal union with Denmark as a drinking song for the Norwegian literary society in Copenhagen.
“Norges Skaal” (also sometimes referred to as “For Norge, Kiæmpers Fødeland” from the first line of the song) gained popularity in the early 1800s when Norwegian nationalism was increasing, and the song was banned by Danish officials when it was first performed. It quickly gained a reputation as being anti-Danish and revolutionary, and was referred to as “the Norwegian Marseillaise”.
Replaced in 1820 by the much more nationalistic "Sønner af Norge" (Eng: Sons of Norway): ua-cam.com/video/Gb9pZgr2qxE/v-deo.html
Nydelig
King Harald V Hei min majestet!
For me "Norges Skaal" is much more beautiful than the following anthems.
It sounds like a proud anthem of a noble country.
It should be the anthem of modern Norway.
its a drinking song!
I agree
I agree 100%! 🇳🇴
@@hardgaymania Doesnt matter, if anything it makes it better.
I agree. It should be Norways anthem.
I was waiting like years for more songs in norwegian... One of the most beautiful languages to me
THIS IS AWSOME
For those reading the English translation "Force" is loosely translated, it is not used as Might or Power put rather being forced to do something, Wich is why the danish govenrment banned this song. Since it described Danish rule as being forced to comply.
The correct translation of "tvang" into English is really "coercion", but I concede that it doesn't sound as good as a song lyric.
hyll Norgesveldet
Ja vi elsker dette landet
"Yes, shame he who loves force, and hates girls, wine and song!" "A toast for you, my friend, and Norwegian lasses!"
Back when singing of righteous and manly things was admired instead of demonized. :(
Note that they also say shame on those who cheat on their girl, so they're not talking about whoring.
you have not heard norwagien music than
What planet are you on?
@@dr.vikyll7466 did you seriously respond to a 2 year old comment bro
@@seronymus yes because its incredibly stupid
Lol for some reason i expected it to have the same melody as Gustafs skal (the unofficaal Gustavian Era royal anthem)
I vote for this as our new anthem

Does 1814-1820 mean the song was only used for six years or the kingdom only existed for six years?

Amazingly beautiful ! I love Norway ! please norwegians come back to your authentical christian roots ! bleessings from Argentina
> Norway
> Christian roots
Glad the Falklands are controlled by their "authentical" and rightful owners (UK). ;)
To our pagan roots
Norway does not have "authentically christian roots" our authenticity lies in pagan/heathen traditions and always will
Not even to mention that the only "became" christian by force by a king who was raised in a foreign land.
