Erik's solo on this song is fucking beautiful simplicity and Trey's belligerent shredding contrasts it brilliantly before bookending it with smooth, delayed tapping. Goosebumps every time.
@@JamesCarian Have you heard their latest guitarist play this solo? Absolutely butchers it. His rhythm is off, his bends are weak, hits multiple sour notes…just plain awful. And it’s not even like it’s a “difficult” solo, he just has no feel or emotion behind his playing. The whole band sounds pretty lousy these days, anyway. It’s a real shame. I love Tucker-era MA, but this iteration of the band isn’t cutting it. Trey doesn’t even play like he’s enjoying it anymore.
@@BugOperator yeah I've seen them live a few times in the past couple years. I honestly like the lineup overall, but you're correct the new guitarist doesn't come close on this solo. It's nice to have tucker back. But to me this video shows what will always be the best era of MA. Trey and Erik were a perfect balance of guitars - Trey's creativity and novelty against Erik's precision and consistency. Still one of the best bands of all time.
@@BugOperator seeing them on tour in 2023 and hopefully they're on point. Trey loves music more than anything, but he's also nearing 60 and Morbid Angel were all pushing it to the max for years. '40 years of acid' is figurative and literal for Trey lol.
I don't care if the rest of the album is mode up of country and western and bluegrass tunes, I would still buy it for the fucking most amazing riff ever in Summoning Redemption (3:09-3:15).
This is it, Morbid Angel at it’s peak, golden fucking time, perfect energy, brutality. Tucker was something else with this band, he like really opened the potential of Trey and the rest of the guys. Cannot beat this, intro riff makes me want to punch my face.
I remember seeing this line up. They were with Pantera! Egyption Room in Indianapolis Indiana! I will never forget it! Music will never be like it used to be!
@4:40 ERIK FUCKING RUTAN Still one of the most epic solos in DM I've ever heard. Gateways was their best album IMO and this man had a lot to do with it. Hate Eternal Still one of the best and consistent DM bands to this day.
@@narmattaru2711 chucks solos are catchy and memorable and some of my favourites but Trey is pure fucking shred, slightly less memorable but they all melt my face off every time. Very different styles which fit perfectly into their own bands imo
4:40 Fucking sexy passionate solo, Erik Rutan touch solos gave to Morbid Angel his signature, it was amazing his touch together with Trey madness taping sweeps wah wah wammy bar kind of solos.
Best line up, I saw them several times on their gateways tour. One time it was Dying Fetus, Hate Eternal and Morbid. Rutan had his hands full! The other night was at the Galaxy theatre in L.A. for some brainless reason the venue was selling bottled beer. some moron ended up flinging the bottle on stage and it hit tucker mid song. They all stopped playing and he was all “WHOEVER THREW THAT BOTTLE, THAT HIT ME, YOU FUCKING PUSSY! COME TO THE SIDE OF THE STAGE AND ILL BEAT YOUR ASS!!” and they all leave the stage. Seconds later we just saw these massive clouds of smoke come out from behind the curtains, then they all come back out and the smell hits the crowd and tucker says something like “I’m still fucking pissed, anyone that wants to beat that guys ass has my permission”. And they start playing again like nothing happened. Just imagine if that happened to axel rose…that pecker would cancel the whole tour. Not Morbid Angel. Definitely a different breed of musicians!
With all due respect to Trey, Erik's solo on the last song of this album (God of the Forsaken) beats all the solos on this album; Trey's and Erik's. Personally, this is their best work.
Steve Tucker, is a fucking beast. Amazing song man, i would kill someone to see These guys too. I agree bro!!! Theses four are the best that MA ever had!!!
This was the best line-up of Morbid Angel ever !!!
Pete, Trey, Steve and Erik
No way Steve
Vincent?
With Rutan and Tucker, just brutal, impressive
Erik's solo on this song is fucking beautiful simplicity and Trey's belligerent shredding contrasts it brilliantly before bookending it with smooth, delayed tapping. Goosebumps every time.
One of the only videos I can find where Erik's solo is played the same as on the album... because of course, it's Erik playing it. 🤘

Rutan's hair is like a Lovecraftian deity when he stands over a fan lol fucking awesome
THIS IS REAL MORBID ANGEL
I don't care if the rest of the album is mode up of country and western and bluegrass tunes, I would still buy it for the fucking most amazing riff ever in Summoning Redemption (3:09-3:15).
ccblapl Hahahaha, this is great. True too!
+ccblapl yep! awesome to read this
That riff is out of this world.
Fucking a
It's my fav album tho 🙃

Easily the most powerful form of Morbid Angel
Damn, how I wish I could see MA in this line up playing songs off of "Gateways..."
!!!
I remember seeing this line up. They were with Pantera! Egyption Room in Indianapolis Indiana! I will never forget it! Music will never be like it used to be!
this was like ONE OF THE BEST performances of this song! PERIOD !!! I remember being 15back then, loving this album
Their second guitarist now can't touch Rutan.. Morbid Angel in 98-2000 were untouchable
The greatest death metal line-up I can think of. The world would be a better place if they had stayed like this...
@4:40
ERIK FUCKING RUTAN
Still one of the most epic solos in DM I've ever heard. Gateways was their best album IMO and this man had a lot to do with it. Hate Eternal Still one of the best and consistent DM bands to this day.
imagine seeing him rip the god of the forsaken solo... would be legendary
For Me... this is the best Morbid Angel's line up... to sad... we will never see it again =(
TREY HAS GO TO BE THE MOST TALENTED GUITARIST EVER
Chuck Schuldiner Is
Chuck Schuldiner was melodic, Trey is everything
@@narmattaru2711 chucks solos are catchy and memorable and some of my favourites but Trey is pure fucking shred, slightly less memorable but they all melt my face off every time. Very different styles which fit perfectly into their own bands imo
I would use the word creative in leu of talented. But yea Love Trey
4:40 Fucking sexy passionate solo, Erik Rutan touch solos gave to Morbid Angel his signature, it was amazing his touch together with Trey madness taping sweeps wah wah wammy bar kind of solos.
This song is by far the heaviest shit Morbid Angel ever wrote
I believe this was shot in Rams Head, Baltimore.
If you like Rutan's melodic solos, check out his project Alas.
In my mind Gateways was released yesterday and I'm listening to it right now fresh out of the record store
It's an ageless record ;)
I fucking love both solos, god damnit, Steve just roaring with power and Pete absolutely hammering the kick, thank you for the upload! \m/
That's the real formation!
Gateways was the first morbid angel album i bought. Beleive i was 16,17. Still my favorite!!!
Let us not forget the almighty Erik Rutan! His solo is so evil and menacing...Hails to Erik!
I saw Morbid Angel opening up for Motorhead on this tour. Great stuff.
I love that tapping section.
Best line up
those solos are killa

One of the Greatest Lineup in the History...
I am addicted to this video
Absolutely stunning
TREY AZAGTHOTH
fuck they hit the nail on the head with this album
wonderful double finger tapping on the end of the solo by trey , that's some seriously difficult shit over there!
I wanted to see Void of the Light live, only once in my life.
La mejor alineación del verdadero Angel morbido !
Martin Borquez
Seeee suenan geniales
Sí….fly
I saw them in Chicago in December 2001 with Jared fronting the band.
killer, so heavy, love it
Can't wait to see them
In June
Morbid Angel at their sickest! I actually prefer Steve Tucker, both him and David are great, but i love Tuckers growls!
I'm pretty sure I could watch Rutan spin his head all day....
Best MA album!!! Too bad Dave won't sing any off the Steve Tucker era albums.
my favourite MA line up... no doubt!
First solo is grim and second solo is insane. :D
tucker is a beast!!! actually both of them(tucker& vincent) are amazing!!! tall strong warriors with charisma!!
4:39 - Rutan solo**Lava
With all due respect to Trey, Erik's solo on the last song of this album (God of the Forsaken) beats all the solos on this album; Trey's and Erik's. Personally, this is their best work.
Turns out the place is in Houston, Texas. You should change the title.
I had just turned 10 when this show happened, I'd just come back from Noosa, Australia. haha. What was everyone else doing?
best performance ive ever seen
Fuck these guys sound good
THE BEST!!!!
wow trey can play like that and move like micheal jackson at the same time lol unbelievable. this is some fucking good footage here as well

Awesome. Hail Morbid Angel.

MA ever had!!!

a plateia então...nem se fala. \m/,
La Laiterie X mas fest 20/12/2000 (I recognize the man on the left who shot Erik Rutan in the beginning of the song^^)
Erik's solo was cool, but Trey's was just maniacal
Jared toured with them for the Heretic Tour.
I've seen this and am reasonably sure this is Fort Lauderdale.
@6The6Deathbanger6 You're only fourteen/fifteen? I salute you, kiddo!
Anyone know if this was the first time they played Summoning Redemption live?
@6Vital6Remains6 I was 4 and I was in Montana for 3 months, together with my parents... I'm from Germany
