Even remembered what car i had brought in. Hes very knowledgeable and i used to love the series he had where he would design and build things from scratch, often improving on existing designs or sometimes coming up with a totally new way of building something. If you had never herd of guy martin and you met him you would have zero idea he was such an absolute legend hes such a nice humble dude so down to earth never let fame go to his head a ture gentleman
I've always thought about getting a motorcycle license, but I'm afraid my passion might interfere with my common sense, so I decided not to. But goddamn, watching this tickles…
Isle of Mann TT has been raced 102 times since 1907, and has seen 269 fatalities, making it the deadliest race event still being raced. 2022 saw 6 fatalities making it tied with 1970 as the deadliest season to date. It's a 37,8 miles course running on the roads around the island, with the lap record averaging over 136mph. Spectacular and exciting.
A lot of the aerial footage is my drive to work every day. The racetrack is 37 and 3/4 miles long and all of it is on public roads which are obviously shut for the event. There are some great videos about the race but "Closer to the Edge" is a documentary about some of the riders and what it takes to ride this course, Guy Martin is one of the main ones they follow as he is a bit of a character. Even if you don't react to it you should watch it as it brings home what this race is all about and what these guys and girls are up against and why they do it. The Isle of Man has been my home for the last 25 years and it really is a beautiful Island. The helicopters have to cut corners when following these guys as they struggle to keep up.
The Isle of Mann TT is the world's most dangerous/ deadly motorcycle race, since it started in 1907 there has been 156 fatalities during official practice and the race as of 2023. They race around the island on public roads and during the event there is no speed limit on the course so even members of the public can ride or drive as fast as they want round the course. It's fun to watch and I have been to it once before and also the Manx GP which is another race like the TT.
There's a youtube video of Guy Martin v's Michael Dunlop. On bike camera footage of a whole Isle of Man TT lap of them both racing each other. It gives probably the best impression of how insane that race is.
This race is insane. As motorcicle rider myself, I have anxiety when I see the onboard cameras of people racing. The speed and the track is trully savage.
Track motorcycle racing is relatively safe nowadays with vast run off areas to slow bikes down when they lose control and many other safety measures. The TT is run on public roads with stone walls, kerbs, houses, lampposts and spectators literally edging the 'track'. The speeds they hit are jaw dropping. He is not exactly lapping the other riders, the riders are set off at timed intervals on the same course so essentially each rider is riding against the clock. The race has a long history...there are lots of fascinating vids on UA-cam. Guy Martin is fast achieving natuonal treasure status over here...he has a great personality.
TT = "Tourist Trophy"fff I suspect Guy Martin qualifies for the description "Renaissance Man". Many interests (many of which could easily kill him), many skills.
It's worth noting that the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) is more akin to a time trial than a more traditional race. Everyone is racing against the clock, and there's no point jockeying for position because that slows you down.
Guy Martin is just built different. And a top bloke. You really don't get the speed of it from a helicopter - watch some of the trackside shots! I watch it ever year and can't believe anyone makes it around alive. It's mental.
Guy Martin has some amazing documentary content - everything from forging samurai swords with a Japanese master to repairing old boats and Spitfire aircraft. If anybody out there used to watch videos of Fred Dibnah, you'll love how Guy gets stuck into things.
It's the ISLE OF MAN bike race, the oldest and most dangerous bike race in the world with 269 fatalities until 2023. Average speed is 120-130 mph and fastest speed reached was 205 i think.
Yes! More TT!!! Try to avoid the crash one, though. It involves a fatality that is brutal. There will still be plenty of accidents but there’s only one or two that are specifically crash videos and they’re pretty rough.
The Isle of Man TT Races are the oldest and longest Street racing circuit in the world. 200+mph. Held annually, sadly people die through crashes every year. Guy Martin has become somewhat of a British national treasure and has now largely retired from competitive racing but you can find him now at his day job as a Truck Mechanic or hosting travel documentary shows titled "Our Guy in....... Japan / Colombia / Russia etc" where he tries to get a flavour for the actual destination and not just the tourist bits.
As many others have said, that's the Isle of Man TT Race. That 'thing' at the road junction is a mini-roundabout, basically just means traffic on the roundabout (or approaching from the right) has right of way. It's a way of avoiding the 'four way Stop sign' type impasse that (I've read) can happen in the US. (Wouldn't be a thing in Britain since Stop signs are so rare, I guess the equivalent might be a 'four way Give Way' or 'three way Give Way')
Ryan, this IS my sport. I wait all year to follow the TT. My normal run is 800 miles from St.Malo to Nice in a day on the bike, once a month. Yep, France in a day. Up to Germany too for smoked Herring for a fun lunch. Europe is easy.
When I went in 2013 the camera helicopter had to cut corners to keep up with the bikes. You should watch the fastest lap at 135.7mph average speed over the 37 mile route.
The lap is 37 miles long and they do 6 of them, they do the 37 miles in just over 16 minutes, top speeds over 200mph, i recommend you look for peter hickmans onboard 2023 record lap video
The TT stands for time trial, it's held on public roads on the Isle of Man, which is an island in the Irish Sea between the uk and Ireland, each lap is 37.73 miles and the senior race (which guy Martin was one of) is 6 laps flat out, the video your watching is over the mountain, These men are super hero's, and it's the world's scariest race.
Each lap is 37 3/4 miles long and the fast lads are lapping at an average of 130 mph on a course that is a mixture of town and country roads, with all the usual road furniture, stone walls, lamp posts, roadside bollards and the rest. Obviously, the roads are closed during racing and qualifying and are tightly marshalled to ensure no one strays on the track by the volunteers who make it possible. So long as you have an ACU competition licence even amateurs (like my younger self) can enter for a surprisingly small fee. Like 90% of privateer racers in the TT (or Manx GP) I never raced with any expectation of standing on the podium and entered it for the buzz as it's the best drug rush on the planet to go screaming down Bray Hill. If you have never ridden a powerful motorbike you can't understand how mind-bogglingly fast they are and how addictively scary racing them is. I guess it's a bit like being a junkie because once you get the taste for pushing yourself and your motorcycle to the limit on a track like the Mountain Circuit it never lets you go. I never got to race in the TT (I crashed in qualifying) but did enter and finish the Manx GP (a lower-profile event on the same course now called the Classic TT) when I was still young enough and daft enough to road race. I'm 60+ these days and too many motorcycle prangs over the years has made doing daft things on race tracks a thing of the past, but god, I miss it!
The Isle of Man TT is a time trial not specifically a race , riders start one at a time on the stop watch and the time they take to cover the complete course of 37.7 miles determines their position, the riders you saw Guy overtaking werent being lapped they were just earlier starters he had caught up to and passed, the roundabout thing you noticed is what we in Britain call a mini roundabout they are quite common, oh and when you assumed he was doing 150 to outpace the helicopter try 190 + which was why he kept blasting away from it....... and who only managed to keep him in view by skipping corners across country.
You mention "blur", and there's a famous quote from 26 time TT winner Joey Dunlop: "There's grey blur and green blur. I try to stay on the grey blur". Try to get an onboard lap with Peter Hickman - or one from Joey on a RVF750 from like 25 years ago...
TT epic clips that are a must watch ,almost bucket list material. #1 On board with Pete Hickman. #2 Connor Cummins the road to recovery. #3 Martin vs Dunlop wheel to wheel. #4 The Scooby rally car the fastest lap ever.. All worth a look, hope i got the Martin v Dunlop correct, if not I'm sure others will correct me...
TT is a Time Trial. Essentially you all set off at intervals, so the chaps he is passing are not really being lapped as such, but he has caught up with them and passed them, they might have set off a few minutes ahead of him.
That race is the Isle of Man TT, I think it was Guy Martin who once said about that race: "It's not hard at all, you just have to stay on the gray blur and avoid the green blur" :'D
Yes, the TT is one of the most dangerous motorsports events in the world. The guys on the bigger bikes (such as the GSXR1000) will touch or exceed 200 mph in two or three places on the circuit. And there's very little margin for error.
The Tourist Trophy "TT" is the best racing there is! Sadly, so many have died over the century plus years of the history of the race. God bless the fallen. RIP
The Isle of Man TT is probably the most dangerous motorcycle race on the planet, they hit ridiculous speeds and the death rate averages out at about 2 riders every year. Occasionally some mad lad will put a car around the same course, the last bloke to do it is a local rally driver, he's within 40 seconds of the fastest bikes and sets a new lap record for cars every time he has a go.
The TT on the Isle of man is a time trial around the island as fast as you can, speeds in excess of 200 mph are not uncommon, accidents do happen and they can be catastrophic for riders and spectators, all racing takes place on small country roads through villages and towns. You can see, on UA-cam a riders point of view of a lap around the course, it's not for the faint of heart.

Guy is just one of our famous racers. Look up Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire UK and you will find more of our legends.
The acceleration off that roundabout is insane !
Guy Martin is a LEGEND and just a top bloke
i live 2 miles from guy in northern lincolnshire guy is alive and kicking hes our local legend top lad
Hi Ryan, "Is he still alive?" is always the first question so you got that right straight away!
Guy Martin is a smart guy.. and brilliant motorcycle racer..😮..
There's a youtube video of Guy Martin v's Michael Dunlop. On bike camera footage of a whole Isle of Man TT lap of them both racing each other. It gives probably the best impression of how insane that race is.
It’s the sound. I’m lucky enough to live about an hour away from the ferry to the IOM. Been a few times. Epic. 😊
This race is insane. As motorcicle rider myself, I have anxiety when I see the onboard cameras of people racing. The speed and the track is trully savage.
Guy is a british institution, he also invented the window sill...what a ledge
The Isle of Man TT is a time trial which is why you don't see many other motorcyclists. TT does not stand for time trial.
TT = "Tourist Trophy"fff
I suspect Guy Martin qualifies for the description "Renaissance Man". Many interests (many of which could easily kill him), many skills.
In 2007!I was there for the Tourist Trophy of the centenary. One of my best experience in my life.
Great video
Loads of IOM TT , content on UA-cam
Definitely get into it 👍👍👍
If you watch closely you can see flames coming out of his exaust. Thunder. That bike knows what it is doing.
Definitely go down the TT rabbit hole👌
Guy Martin is a bloody legend.
Guy is a total nutter, we love him..! Check out his Wall of Death record attempt.
the best part is that you can actually buy this bike model for a nice price
It's the best race on earth is the TT isle of man it's on public roads too and guy Martin is a down to earth person ever
Guy Martin is amazing.
(Wouldn't be a thing in Britain since Stop signs are so rare, I guess the equivalent might be a 'four way Give Way' or 'three way Give Way')
Guy Martin's a Legend.
Guy martin is simply an awesome rider. He also crashed at this isle of man. TT was lucky to survive, and his lucky escape was also captured on film
If that blew you away, you need to check onboard camera footage of the TT, it looks like its been sped up 2x. Incredible.
Please react to the Isle of Man TT 😊 there's loads to see, including the Sidecar racing, which is insane
Definitely you need to see an Isle of Man compilation.
The lap is 37 miles long and they do 6 of them, they do the 37 miles in just over 16 minutes, top speeds over 200mph, i recommend you look for peter hickmans onboard 2023 record lap video
The TT stands for time trial, it's held on public roads on the Isle of Man, which is an island in the Irish Sea between the uk and Ireland, each lap is 37.73 miles and the senior race (which guy Martin was one of) is 6 laps flat out, the video your watching is over the mountain,
These men are super hero's, and it's the world's scariest race.
TT actually stands for Tourist Trophy, but you're partly right, it is a time trial. Riders race against the clock, not each other.
"37 Miles of street roads raced by modern day test pilots who don't have the safety of an ejection seat"....
That's a pretty accurate description of the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races
Guy Martin is my hero
Guys a legend
Yes, the TT is one of the most dangerous motorsports events in the world. The guys on the bigger bikes (such as the GSXR1000) will touch or exceed 200 mph in two or three places on the circuit. And there's very little margin for error.
The Tourist Trophy "TT" is the best racing there is! Sadly, so many have died over the century plus years of the history of the race. God bless the fallen. RIP
Now! These boys in TT are the best in world on 2 wheels!!
Guy is an animal. He has set Soo many Guinness world records too.🤘
Guy Martin is the modern day , Fred Dibnah . Great bloke !
