Rafa you are the best to me.winning or losing. It wasn't your best match but you have played so many amazing matcher on other days that this Is what I remember ❤️
he has nothing to prove Tiafoe played great and he's a nice guy. Rafa is a legend but age catches up with everyone and his foot is also shot. nothing lasts forever
Loss in serve speed due to change in technique to prevent aggravation of injury made his serve easier for his opponents. Tifoe played really well though. It shall go a long way in increasing his confidence level. Also now people will realise that even though novak wasn't allowed, still a tournament has to be won by nadal. It's never a cake walk.
Tremendous effort as always from Mr. Nadal. Tiafoe played an outstanding match, he seized his opportunities. Rafa was definitely off, but still played a very solid match. His level is amazing, but he really faltered in the 4th set when he was up a break. It was the key that likely would have changed the result. Take nothing away from Tiafoe, he was great. Rafa for sure will be disappointed, but keep your head up. He is the GOAT of men's tennis for a reason. Novak still has opportunities to change that, but Nadal is the top of men in tennis. High Respect 🙏 🙌
What a match and a well-deserved win by Tiafoe! Great serving and aggression with enough consistency was key to him winning this match. Coming back down 1-3 the way he did in the 4th set was very impressive. How often do you see Rafa lose a set from that position other than against somebody like a Djokovic? This match should put to bed all of the talk about Nadal being the supposed goat. Fathom this: - No Djokovic - No Zverev - No Medvedev - No Thiem - Easy draw And the Spaniard still could not get it done. Djokovic never would have let an opportunity like this slip away. That is the difference between the two and why Novak is the better player. This is a great day for American tennis as well with somebody finally beating a big 3 member in a slam. Moreover, we will actually get a new slam winner for a change. Tennis has indeed won today.
The major difference was serving. Francis served exceptionally well and consistently and Rafa couldn't get his first serves in. I'm a big Rafa fan but Francis deserved to win this match.
He didn't have enough Hardcourt Matches to prepare for the U.S Open. His movement was slow today. Let's hope he can play very well for the rest of the year and end the Year @#1.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 Nadal has never been good on the indoor hardcourts even when younger so probably not going to be a great finish to the season for him.
Rafa's performance today and in this tournament should make us realize how amazing it was that he won the AO and FO after injuries and sporadic play. It all caught up with him today. All these current players have had full seasons playing tough matches. They are battle-hardened. Rafa has barely played since the Spring. Then there is the foot, the ribs, the abdominal, the nose (!), and, ultimately, his age. And, his wife spending time in the hospital. 15 years ago, Rafa had the legs of Alcaraz. No longer. Puts a lot more pressure on your shot-making. As much as I hate to say it, it may be time...
It’s not time yet as he can still bring a high level. But he will play less tournaments. He showed this year at the French he doesn’t need much prep and can still compete. So he will still be a threat there for sure. He probably needs a break. Some of the injuries this year were not typical also. Every time he loses its “time”. He hasn’t got a major injury atm and has found a solution for the foot.
We love you RAFA #WinOrLose. You seem to forget you ain't got nothing to prove anymore bc you are the GOAT of tennis. Go get some rest and then be ready for Laver Cup as we ready for some #Fedal content..
He wasn’t mentally there and it was sad to see him fall short. But now good things are coming his way. He should just enjoy that and maybe next year brings more happiness and joy for him. I wish him all the worlds luck
Rafa you are the best, regardless of today's outcome .we enjoyed watching you playing for a long time ,yes as you mentioned you are a human being. Yes we all are , but Rafa is a wonderful human being with a good big heart .
Let's not forget that Frances also just beat Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. Its not just Rafa's play that mattered today. Frances has been playing very well and deserves credit for that.
Most of the comments here are from the haters. He did not play well, yet he still had chances. It was very disappointing but he has not looked right from day one. 7 weeks with no matches will do that.
Agree with you 100% From the beginning he seemed troubled and I can understand.. I know he is a fighter but his mind was elsewhere and understandable so. All the best to him and Family.
I understand Rafa didn't play his best today..but how many guys has he beat when they didn't bring their best..thats why we love the game...whoever plays the best that day can win...its simple
Hat's off to Tiaofoe , he earned it ! Like I said regardless of us open out come , He is , who he is the GOAT ! Australian Open next ! See ya , love ya !
Nadal in the end had excellent year with two grand slams in his pocket so this defeat is not that harsh on him. He didn't play his best tennis today and Tiafoe played great and it is completely normal in tennis to have ups and downs. I am sure that he has at least one more competitive year in his legs where he can at least attack one more Roland Garros an than some.
Despite his attempt to downplay his chances and relieve pressure from his shoulders, he will be fit to compete every year for at least another half a decade due to painkillers
To beat a champion you have to play like a champion. Congrats to Francis, he played the tennis of his life! Quarter finals are going to be exciting! We’re gonna have a new major champion! Rafa will be back!
Gosh, if you've followed Rafa's career, you'd know he still, always suffers from chronic knee pain, foot pain, healing from a cracked rib, an abdominal tear, how do you expect him to play like he was 6 years younger? He's 36, his body has been broken and worn down after 19 years playing hardcore tennis. We're lucky he's out there at all. Rafa could have gone ahead and retired so as not to hear or read all the fools commenting on him, like you, who seem not to have a clue at all to what this man's body has been through. Plus fact, it's been in the news, his wife is 8 months pregnant and has been in the hospital the past 2 weeks, I'm sure that weighs on his mind also. Sorry he wasn't fast enough for you today.
He was always struggling in this tournament (by his own high standards). He kept losing the first set ... then it's harder to come back mentally and physically. He had to start harder.
It's not clay, that's the simple logical answer! This is his high standards, it just means the opponent didn't choke, and give him free points, which is why he's always winning and bullying unseeded and lucky losers.
@@elizabethdavis5637 Stop wondering. Tennis players are humans, and it is almost impossible to be in top shape every day, mentally and physically. Also, even though the favorites are supposed to win, but on any given day, any of these professional tennis players can beat the other. If a player can win one point from his opponents, then every point can be won by him, enough to win the match. That's why there are odds in sports. Upsets happen everyday in the sporting world. He has lost to an unseeded player as a #2 seed at a major before. Tiafoe is seeded in this tournament.
Love RAFA! BTW, I'm pretty sure it's 'Frances' and not 'Francis." FT served a lot of ACES and hit the ball hard-and-flat and out of RAFA'S reach. It was a stellar performance by him and his shots caught Nadal flat-footed quite often. Take a break until the AO and have fun with your family, RAFA. ❤

True, sometimes when you lose one has to just acknowledge the better things the opponent did better than you. Losing is normal and it has happened to everyone at some point.

Tonight's match was, I feel, something of a change in Rafa. It happens slowly, but eventually, Father Time catches up to us all. Rafa's movement has been getting worse, and against a big hitter like Big Foe, the fractions of a second that have been lost to age really start to show prominently. There are many big hitters on the tour now; Rafa will continue to struggle against them, and as the years roll on, his movement will deteriorate further. I think RG next year may be his last opportunity for a slam.
@@muhammedkamran7365 history suggests otherwise. Have a look at the list of oldest grand slam winners. Rafa is already one of the oldest male winners, and by the time the AO comes, if he were to win that, I haven't calculated it exactly, but I think that would make him the second oldest in the open era. Considering that Novak and Roger might both be back, and the slew of young guns, the job of a nearly 37 year old is just getting harder and harder. Possible? Yes. Likely? I have my doubts.

It seems people can't appreciate a good player, just because he/she is a fan of another good player. And forget what these guys have achieved. You can't do any of these things by commenting like these. These players have to do it on the ground. Tiafoe did a great job. Many lesses players have done like this on a given day. That doesn't take away anything from anyone. And Nadal doesn't have to prove himself any more, nor do Djokovic and Federer. Everyone heard what it takes to be a great sportsman. Take your wins and losses in the same spirit. Nadal does it very well. Many others do it in their own way. I think it's no good to just call them names because one is a fan of someone else.

That’s why people love and respect you is because you are very respectful Rafa
Rafa has nothing to prove at this point in his career. He came back with injuries and he was also concerned about personal issues. All the best to Rafa and his family. Stay well Champ.
Fathom this:
- No Djokovic
- No Zverev
- No Medvedev
- No Thiem
- Easy draw
And the Spaniard still could not get it done.
No matter what I enjoy his game. Will always his number one fan
The major difference was serving. Francis served exceptionally well and consistently and Rafa couldn't get his first serves in. I'm a big Rafa fan but Francis deserved to win this match.
He summed it up perfectly, his shots were not creating enough damage. But nothing takes away for GOAT in the men's game.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 Nah. Nadal is all but done. He will win 1 clay slam max. The Spaniard had a lucky year, but luck cannot last forever.
@@jacobschmidt2709 That's OK. 22 slams is more than I ever expected. Alcaraz is my 2nd favorite after Nadal and either him or Nadal will be YE#1.

He just didn't have it this tournament. Would love to see him stay healthy and end the year strong.
His mind wasnt in the game since his pregnant wife was in hospital and with his age and body he wins on will power most of the time.
Let's not forget that Frances also just beat Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. Its not just Rafa's play that mattered today. Frances has been playing very well and deserves credit for that.

Nice respectful comment, appreciated.
Despite his attempt to downplay his chances and relieve pressure from his shoulders, he will be fit to compete every year for at least another half a decade due to painkillers
@@kakashihatake1029 Exactly lol, allways injured yet somehow he plays, those 8 min injury brakes in between sets help too i hear.

Rafa made a great point about his slow movement because I have never seen him like that ever in a match

Still a great year for Nadal. I wouldn't be surprised if he won the French next year and maybe another major. Tiafoe was excellent today.
He was always struggling in this tournament (by his own high standards). He kept losing the first set ... then it's harder to come back mentally and physically. He had to start harder.
@@elizabethdavis5637 welcome to Djokovic's world.
Yes, he lost the first against young Hijikata. Fognini kind of let Nadal off the hook. Nadal was very dominant against Gasquet.

Djokovic will be eager to beat him at RG too.
