The Church of Jesus Christ and the members of the Church have the capacity to love that is unmatched. The immense love I have felt from other Latter-day Saints has been tremendous and unconditional. They have shown that love is far greater than judgment. Joseph Smith the prophet spoke of that as well when he spoke about how love and the heart are what changes people to turn and follow Jesus Christ. Love is the greatest power in all of the universe!
Wow, all the comments about Christianity and Mormonism are interesting. However, this is a very good song about the love of Jesus. The video is about Gladys Knight singing a song. She is a wonderful singer. Listen to the pure and simple message. I don't claim to know much about Mormonism for I am a Christian, so I won't comment about it. I just love this beautiful song and Ms. Knight is an excellent singer. "He's coming back again", sings Gladys. Even so, come Lord Jesus. Amen
meidaboyz I am so glad you know that about Elder Elijah Abel. I've seen his grave and those of his family surrounding him there and the words etched in stone are powerful. I used to visit the SLC Cemetery after Church sometimes when I lived in Salt Lake. I found it to be a very sacred place and I learned so much from that place. There is a tremendous amount of fascinating and inspiring history there. That place is truly a library & history of peoples lives and a storehouse of memories.
My daughter just retur5ned from her mission in May. She returned a stronger woman and stronger in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you serve in the right spirit it is an experience that will positively effect the rest of your life. DO not waste time trying to set the record straight with the Mormon Haters. They only wish to sucker you into a Bible Bash which only Satan wins. Follow Paul's advise & do not contend over the Gospel just preach it to those who wish to hear it. Have a great mission!
@brian8793 absolutely, and as a woman I have never felt so honoured and loved by men as I have being a member of this church. It truly is Jesus's church.
I wish christians would celebrate Jesus and each other as Christians brothers and sisters instead of always taking pot shots at each other and how they worship God. Remember God said "Your Ways Are Not My Ways Nor Are Your Thoughts My Thoughts. Lets stop trying to second guess Him and concertrate on the person in the mirror (ourselves) and being the best representives of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. we can be. The song was beautiful, let's just celebrate that.
@moikressly You are thinking of the wrong William McDowell...She is NOT married to the Chritain Singer William McDowell...However, her husband has the same name.
It was the Black Church mainly that Black Baptist that were at the forefront of every struggle for African American achievement and improvement including the civil war and civil rights. In addition, MOST of the Black colleges were founded by Black church institutions, mostly prominent Black ministers fought to desegregate schools, media and continues to be at the forefront of those struggles.
Brigham Young was a prophet of God. My only explanation of the quotes you quoted is that Christ said the comforter shall teach you the truth of all things. This comforter is the Holy Ghost . James 1:5 says if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally ,but let him ask in faith nothing wavering . I asked God to know if Joseph Smith ,Brigham Young and all the Mormon prophets were truly prophets of the Lord. The spirit revealed to me little by little that they are His
@brian8793 In fact this was one of the reasons Mormons were persecuted, because they were admantly against slavery at a time when many people were still getting wealthy off of having slaves.
@brian8793 The fact that Joseph Smith never had slaves is irrelevant. On the major issues concerning Blks, I have not heard from the Morman church. However, they still ride bikes thru my community and want me to join their church.
@brian8793 The "traditional interpretation" of the Bible does not support a "different set of scriptures. You may argue that all scriptures written before and during the Christ era were not included in the canoon. However, it is an extradinary claim to suggest that Christ simply did on the American Continent what he did in Asia Minar and Africa.
@brian8793 I understand that. However, the Morman church has not been very active in Social Justice for all people. Where were you in the civil rights era? Martin came from the Blk Bapt church. He was a brilliant scholar, preacher & noble peace prize winner. If MLK were Morman he would never have even been allowed to be a Reverand.
@brian8793 Most of the historic Black churches and denoms were formed post-civil war 1860-1870; National Bapt, African Methodist Episcopal (AME), Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) churches. The reason God led these men to start these denoms his b/c the mostly white church (Mormon) had these revelations against Blacks.
@brian8793 Well, I admire your "enthusiasm and your loyalty. However, there are many prophets, teachers, scribes, priest, preachers and etc in a myriad of different faith traditions and denominational persuasions that put their life on the line for a cause, belief and a set of principals; Paul, Stephen, Martin Luther, Ghandi, Joan of Arc, Joseph Smith, Martin Luther King, Malcom X and the list goes on!!!
@brian8793 In addition, I you still have not answered my other questions, where was the Morman church during; civil war, civil rights protest and etc? You have been largely silent on the majority of social issues concerning Blks.
What kind of bunk is that? I'm LDS and I know that that blacks had the curse of Cain was never official doctrine. It was some folklore that predated the restoration. And what the heck is an "african american city"?
How did you do to know that she is William Mcdowell's wife ? If they are married then their life myst be strange because it does not seems like that for me. And unless i am mistaking William Mcdowell is Christian. What about her ?
@judrayton Hey brother, the definition of a christian is the worship of Jesus Christ- mormons base their entire life to him.. Seperating them from christians is like the pope seperating the protestants and martin luther from christ, it is an old device of controlling ones flock. If you lack knowledge about something seek it. Even the Buddha did this. This is key to Knowing that your faith is based on more than religious training like the pharosees and saduces. .
In addition, Brigham Young himself, wouldnt want me at his univ. considering all of the neg things that he said about Bk people. MY MESSAGE THE MORMAN CHURCH, "No thanks, I would rather continue to be apart of my hand clapping, foot stomping Baptist church that occassionally sings spirituals and anthems" than be apart of an institution that only wants my membership in the pews, but not in the leadership!
@brian8793 You have really skirted around some of these responses I gave to you. You indicated that you would walk with MLK if you could. I am not denying that. However, Im sayin that during the civil rights protest Martin would not even have been elgible for the priesthood.
At one time only the sons of Levi were permitted to hold the priesthood. I guess God is the racist one... Also, explain why a few key people involved in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950's and 1960's are Mormon. Africans don't seem to have a problem with Mormonism, but other Christian churches do. Mormons are a threat to pastor's income.
@brian8793 Furthermore, I am sure you are aware that the church is a product of its cultural surroundings. As a result, much of which you accuse other churches of is also what the Morman church is guilty off.
There may be a lot of positive things about the Morman church including but certainly not limited to the focus on family and relationships. However, until you take seriously the need for inclusion on all levels, you are going to have a difficult time with getting Blacks to join. Blks dont want to join an org. to sit at the "back of the bus". Remember, we run our own religions denoms and institution.
This is truly a sad event given the history of the LDS church's teaching concerning Blacks as cursed and our black skin as the mark of cain. The LDS church has a different God, a different Christ and a different gospel. May the Lord grant her repentance.
Brother I'm afraid you are misinformed. Our church was not founded on racism. Joseph Smith ordained Elijah Abel an Elder in 1836, and in D&C 101:77 is Revealed 79: Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another. God bless you and your family. :)
Many Blk denoms including the African Methodist Episcapals predate much of your doctrine. Why would I leave my own institution to be treated like 2nd class for yours???
The Church of Jesus Christ and the members of the Church have the capacity to love that is unmatched. The immense love I have felt from other Latter-day Saints has been tremendous and unconditional. Omg I never heard this. So beautiful.
Simbly BEAUTIFUL!! She's the only one who's voices has not changed!!!

I saw he when she came to our stake this christmas. It brought me to tears because the spirit the SUV choir brought was so powerful. Simply amazing
Sister Gladys, this entire metamorphosis is refreshing. Thank you for making a powerful decision. Beautiful.

Of the the attontment
Love and remember you from way back Mrs. Gladys Knight-McDowell. Take a bow.
@brian8793 absolutely, and as a woman I have never felt so honoured and loved by men as I have being a member of this church. It truly is Jesus's church.
Beautiful Gladys, Giving Hope to all of Us.
Once again, this woman has gotten me through. She did in in 1972 and she did it today
Beautiful testament...her voice absolutely touches souls. Hope this 9 month late Reply finds you well.
Oh My God, Glory Be to God. OUFFFFFFFF!!!!! Glory be to God. Thanks
