Also I love the last comment about making plants more affordable so everyone can enjoy them! This market is ridiculous and we’ve given sellers too much leeway for potential price gouging 🙄🙄
yeap, right now im focusing on this plant, micans, and raphidaphora tetrasperma. Ive got bout 45 tetrasperma cuttings rooting, so by spring i should be able to sell like 150 plants for like 10 bucks maybe less we shall see

Pleaseee pleaseeee start a podcast, I love listening to your voice and information you give. I clicked this video so fast even when I don’t own this plant ahahah
Sweet man-another great video. I tell new growers that perlite is the way to go for rooting propagations and establishing no-leaf imports and it’s nice to see an actual experiment that kind of confirms that. Will be sharing this for sure. Great initiative btw-keep it up 👌🏻
Very nice work, great patience. I got mine here in Panama a few months ago and planted the cuttings directly to the ground. Humidity was no problem this year and all did very well. These plants over here are ubiquitous in areas of humid vegetation, it's almost as if you recognize one you just grab a piece and plant it at home. Love the way you work your videos, very simple yet informational. I have learned a lot from you. Thanks for the great work.
I have a melanochrysum node I'm trying to propagate, I am definitely going to try the perlite method. I've had it in water and I had no idea that the old leaves would die off before new growth would begin. Your information was excellent! Thank you so much. I will definitely be subscribing and recommending your channel to others!
Ive been putting them in a big clear bin with like an inch of clay pellets at the bottom and like 2inches of a perlite sphagnum mix on top of that I open the lid once a day to get some air in there and they are rooting and sprouting fast, i keep em under an LED light too if you look me up on instagram techplant.official and message me ill show you Its had byfar the best success
I'm about a month away from propagating my philodendron verrucosum which is very, very similar to melanochrysum, so this was very helpful seeing how each cutting you did was affected by the medium used. As much as I dislike untangling roots from moss, it looks like moss worked super well here, so I'm stuck with it again LOL Thanks for the video!
I straight up cut a whole vine off my philodendron because it was leggy and ugly, I was sure the stump would die off, but there's a new grow point coming from it. Proof that you can cut up the vines as much as you want without killing them.
Going to chop up my Melanochrysum and try your perlite and perlite/sphagnum method. I have huge fish tank that keep covered and use for propagating. Thanks for the video!
I always like your propagation videos. Hope you can have a video like this for string of hearts. I have tried a lot of times, different ways, but i always ended killing my propagations.
I love propagating with perlite. I hardly ever have failure and when I do it's because it was too moist. You had too much water in your cup. You get better results if you use bottom heat and only a fraction of an inch of water. I mean like a teaspoon of water to a pint jar of perlite, just enough to settle the dust.
As long as the perlite hasn't grown algae or the plant wasn't diseased. You can also add it to the soil that you pot your plant up in. I usually do this.
This is such a helpful video! Totally here for making these plants more affordable. I've been wanting one forever but they're all so overpriced right now!
Good video. I like how you used the different kinds of medium. I've perlite effective but even with a home made humidity dome it's such a bother to make sure it says moist. I have ended up simply using soil, although that can be a bit messier when checking on roots. Any thoughts on why water propogation isn't as effective? were you using bottled or tap water? I avoid water propagation because my tap water has chloramine.
i think just some of these slower harder to grow aroids dont like being in water since they grow up trees. Im not sure, ive just noticed some of the more "rare" plants of mine dont react to well very well
They're always going to thrive in situations that are closer to how they grow in nature(up mossy trees and rocks). Philodendrons don't normally grow in water so it's not surprising it's by far the worst method. It's only effective for people who lack patience and want to see the roots start for instant gratification at the expense of the overall health of the plant.
Love your video, very informative! I do have a question for you, I have had mine for about a little over a month now, it did come with 2 leaves but one died off (probably because of shipping). So, it was looking like it was going to put out a new leaf but for the past 2 weeks it looks like it’s stuck/buckled. Is there anything I can do to help the new possible leaf?
Another excellent video. The tech plant sticker you sent me looks great on my laptop. Have you tried adding a humidifier to your plant room? That usually helps get rid of spider mites.
I want too but im worried ill cause mold or something in the carpet, i dont want to wreck my parents house. I have been house shopping like crazy tho so once i get one ill go all out with the next plant room
I think it's pretty obvious at this point philodendrons prop better the closer the conditions are to their natural habitat since sphagnum moss always does so well second to soil. Now I'm curious how they would do being propped in orchid bark since it would be the best of both worlds and growing up tree bark is what they do in nature.
i will do another experiment, once I stuffed them in a bin for high humidity the air roots really grew big and fluffy, if they had some moist bark to grab onto they would have been in heaven
My melanochrysum fell off its shelf and one of the leaves broke off. I stuck the stem end of the leaf into a little cup of water, hoping that I could keep it going. Is there a possibility it could still grow, given it was a random break? Would the perlite be a better solution than the water? Thank you!
i got a beautiful mican plant as a gift, but it has little dots on some leaves like your leaves in the first cup. Any idea why? thanks for the video.. this helps!
Hey buddy, few months back you mentioned you are going to sell some these in a cheaper price. I had requested to put me in the line. I am wondering what’s the status on selling. Much appreciate if I can get one. Thanks once again.
For the future, can you put the dates on the screen? For example, when you state that it has been a month and a half, I don't know if you meant a month and a half over the first state or the date after the first two weeks? Not sure if that makes any sense what I just typed.
no, its a horrible affliction, only people who buy out all the plants at big box stores and try and resell them for 10x the price on facebook deserve spider mites
Would you think that using pumice in place of perlite would work the same? I have two melano cuttings that I want to get out of moss and into perlite, but my perlite is kinda small, and my pumice is a bit chunkier.
@@TechplantChannel If I can only show you my plant, you'll see why I'm so frustrated😆 By the way, I just found your channel. I like it because it is interesting, short and straight forward. Thanks and keep up the great work!
