Are they still selling the brass beds and "mink" blankets in Korea? I never bought one of the bed frames, but I bought several on the blankets to take back to the states, and they still look and feel great to this day.
@xn4jv3 yea, there are a lot of blanket shops. I picked up a blanket and so did my friends but it seems like the "dye" comes off and getts on sheets and light clothing. they are very comfortable and look good but not of good quality :-\
Summer 1987- You and I were there at the same time. I would love to return here and have a look around. I still have many items that I purchased in the area of BC and Gate 2 Streets, including great memories. Thanks for uploading this video clip, as it is probably the closest I'll ever be to revisiting this region.
Both Gate 2 and BC street were in the process of being "cleaned up", when I was stationed there in the mid 80s. When I came back to the states, I talked to a friend who was there in the mid to late 70s'. Out of ten places (bars) around BC & Gate2 he remembered, I could only recall seeing two of them still remaining.
these videos are unreal... this looks just like the streets outside the posts here in korea. in fact if you posted this video as shopping in (insert korean ville name) I would have believed them the same.
I bought four back in 87' (Tiger, Lion, Dragon and a light purple), and so far only the purple failed. I mailed that one from Korea to my sister as a gift, and she used it for many years until it came apart in her washer. I saw it before it was tossed and the purple did look faded from what I recall when it was new, but she never mentioned any dye transfer issues. The other three are about twice as heavy (better quality) as the purple one was, and I'm sure that is why they survive to this day.
I've found "Google Earth" let me retrace some of my trips out on the island, but new developments in some areas have really changed and erased any signs what was there before. Now, all thats left are the pics, videos and (great) memories.
