@@rkan2 First off, why don't you show some respect to all athletes, regardless of their country? Secondly, Phil IS from the US, so what are you even saying? Thirdly...a "NOT" joke? What is this, 2003?
Right on Phil! Publish your schedule somewhere for those of us who don’t do Instagram. Looking forward to the episode where you get your Olympic Ring tattoo as a member of the team!
Long time listener, first time caller... Holy #&@$ Phil...4:30 ?!? Without context, outstanding. With context, crazy! Huge, HUGE, props...for staying on top of your game, for being charitable, for giving us a window on your "retirement". Add me to the list of followers cheering you on to give this a go! I grew up swimming in the shadow of a number of Olympians, spanning the 80s & 90s (including 2 gold medalists). Plus, Steve Bauer's Dad was my high school English teacher, offering another window on excellence and the Olympic pursuit. So I understand the intersection of commitment, passion, physiology and talent it takes to complete on the world stage...and that I didn't have enough of the last two. Were it were measurably possible for me to get to compete under the 5 rings, I'd push the chips in. All in. Hopefully your tour brings you out to the east coast? Central Park seems like a no-brainer to raise a more than few $ in a group ride? Velodrome near Allentown PA? (Know a sick, Belgian-like, climb near Easton!) Just sayin', ha. Really enjoy your channel, as do my sons (10 & 13).
Hi Phil. First of, i'm a huge fan (not literally.) I admire what you are doing with this whole channel, and the obvious joy you have for the sport. When I heard you set a goal of 4:30, I said to myself, even out loud, "You cant possibly do that." So when you did it, my admiration went way up! Keep them legs turning and the pain growing! - A fan from Denmark.
Your reaction and watching the gears grind in your head from 13:07 on is really great. One of the best moments of the show so far. Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best!
What a wonderful adventure! Thanks for allowing us to peek over your shoulder while you go through the process of trying-out for the U.S. Olympic team.
Have you heard about the United Kingdom Derby-based Huub Wattbike Test Team? They are a team of amateurs doing remarkable record times by using marginal gains. Worth a look. Great to see Phil having a go.
So cool Phil! Love that you are doing this. Thanks for bringing us on your journey. Best of luck with the donations and the project. And dude, what an amazing time.
Phil, please come to the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook, Illinois just outside Chicago. It's a a great facility and has some great roads nearby for a group ride! It's the only velodrome around Chicago right now and its community is super passionate and gracious. It would be amazing to have you come!
Jeez, Phil. First time back on the track since college and you put in a silver-medal-at-nationals time? That's just insane. And $50k from _Chasing Cancellara_ is pretty awesome, too. Super-impressed.
Phil, totally legit effort!!! I'm quite impressed and hope you will make the team. If I were a betting man I would put my money on you. Also If your skinsuit does not cover your chest entirely shave your chest hair (but I think it does cover it). Going very deep in the tank up hills keeps you strong overall. So I know you will do well. From a fan that read all of your books and hopes to get to 85% of your power numbers, keep up the fight James
I got a fit with Jim, he does a great job. Great effort Phil. If I get to cheer you on in the Olympics it will be amazing. If I on't get to cheer you on via youtube, that's cool too.
Impressive effort and inspiring goals(both for the hungry kids and the Olympic). First try in +10years, very fast as it is, I am sure you can shave seconds off this ride. Love the go train with the retired attitude. It is more fun that way and fun is why we ride to begin with. I am 48 and still race in the open catagory(Cat1 in Thailand) with the same attitude you have. Sure will follow you all the way hopefully to Japan. Cheers from Thailand.
i remember seeing phil race the first time a few years ago at the sunnyking criterium in Alabama as 5hr kenda team and he was off the front forever and made it look easy lol..that inspired me to race and try that lol! awesome videos phil!!
Really awesome man! I was thinking you wouldn't be that competitive, but silver in last year's nationals!! It would be so freaking awesome for you to make the team! I'm hoping you're coming to Sacramento on the tour...the American River Trail is FLAT, so...and yes, most importantly, I will donate as well!!
Go for it! If there is even an inkling of a chance to go to the olympics, it would be insane to not take it with both hands. Millions of amateur athletes can only dream of the olympics, so go for it.
Well done, Phil! You gotta get tips from your W.R.E. Episode 3 friend, Kate Bertine, given her 2006 ESPN assignment to make the Olympics in any sport... which is how she ended up as a professional cyclist!
Phil this is every cyclist dream so chase it man. I just hope your ever improving content with not reduce once the ultra serious professional training starts to bite. I love you too much 😘
4:30 would have gotten you silver at the Danish Nationals 2018.......i mean if that whole US qualification doesn't work out, you can always change passport ;-)
Woah, this came out of nowhere! Exciting. Are you a bit nervous? I'd be, especially knowing that I had a real chance of making it all the way. You've basically been training for this for years. Similar time and power demand to KOMs, just round n' round. Good luck!
Roughly 480w to 500w power range? Guessed at some numbers to calculate a ballpark. Very impressive especially in a tuck, coming from a TT racer. Great ride.
If Phil makes the Olympic team, I'm flying to Tokyo on my summer break
RIGHT??!?!?!
Lol
that aged like milk
Well, 2024?
Instead of accepting a Olympic medal you ask for a golden cookie
an*
This is insane! I didn't even believe it was true until half trough the video. And when he said silver medal I got goosebumps. Make this happen, Phil
Time equivalent to Silver at the Nationals...ON YOUR FIRST TRAINING RIDE. What.
@@rkan2 First off, why don't you show some respect to all athletes, regardless of their country? Secondly, Phil IS from the US, so what are you even saying? Thirdly...a "NOT" joke? What is this, 2003?
19:45 A good coach always has you do an extra lap. I'm excited for this series !
So he "drops in " to the Velodrome and sets a silver medal time on his first effort. Holy shiitake mushrooms! I wish I could retire this badly...
This is amazing. I'll be glued to your videos all the way Phil! Good luck from London!
If you make the olympics I’ll come cheer for you in Tokyo.
same
Right on Phil! Publish your schedule somewhere for those of us who don’t do Instagram. Looking forward to the episode where you get your Olympic Ring tattoo as a member of the team!
He's gonna get a tattoo where?? And why is it an Olympian ring - is that because it's so big??? I thought only drug mules had one of them...
Now imagine. For the hour record you would need to do 4:25 about 14 times in a row...
Granted, you only have to get up to speed once.
I was watching, watching, watching, waiting for the punchline to come, It didn't. Bravo sir, try something you're not sure you can do. Excellent.
Magic. Never thought I would root for an American in the Olympics. It's a funny old world.
Doesn't ride track for 11 years, jumps on one and sets a time that would have been 2nd at Nationals last year!? Incredible! Keep it up Phil!
Long time listener, first time caller...

Darbados for the win.
Yes, this is definitely an even worse retirement. :D Good job hitting that 4:30.
I feel like you have to include Nebraska on your tour now. See how Ashten Lambie trains here in corn-land. :)
I’ll make the cookies!!
That second position looked waaaaay more comfortable and natural
Congratulations Phil. So excited for you. Thank you for letting us watch
Wow. Contending with national times. Impressive. Can't wait to see your van tour calendar
So cool Phil! Love that you are doing this. Thanks for bringing us on your journey. Best of luck with the donations and the project. And dude, what an amazing time.
This show just got 10x better! I love both the van tour and your unbiased experience to train for the olympics.
I just watched a cookie monster go round a track several times. All for the Olympics and No Kid Hungry. Worth it.....
I think this is a great thing for you to do Phil! Quite inspiring for everyone else too. Awesome!!
This keeps getting better and better. Going around that track got my heart racing. Thanks for taking us along!
That coach at the track was getting me pumped up!
I just admire so much Phil. Seriously. You are an amazing person. Proud of you man
Phil, I am no Olympic coach. But two pieces of advice, practice turning left and pedal bloody hard.
great advice. i will try to do that also
Game on mate. That's awesome. All the best of luck to you.
Wow! Think I pedalled every lap with you while sitting on the couch!! Great work.
So stoked for Phil !! Whether or not he makes the team, what an adventure!

Damn...I was not expecting the news that came in the intro but I couldn't be more excited for it. Good luck Phil...you're gonna kill this journey!
This will be a story that will go down in Olympic history... GO FOR IT
Jeez, Phil. First time back on the track since college and you put in a silver-medal-at-nationals time? That's just insane. And $50k from _Chasing Cancellara_ is pretty awesome, too. Super-impressed.
I am sold! I shall make a donation to No Kid Hungry today! Good luck, Phl! This is a noble pursuit!

That's what a talented athlete looks like
Way to go Phil, no matter what the result this is a great thing to do, I hope you raise a whole heap for charity.

USA USA USA!!! All in for Phil! If nothing else this will make great youtube content and maybe a good documentary! Go Phil Go!
Do it Phil! I love how you're going for an event that you aren't an expert on! Rollin' a 4:30 without a proper warm up - AWESOME!
Love the sound from the freewheel on your Nove. good luck Phil
Man, love seeing you in the mode that made you pro with less of the cookie shtick. You got this!
REALLY excited to watch this journey!

Come to Baton Rouge! It's very flat down here and we have a Velodrome!
This is going to be awesome to follow along. Best of luck!
I got a fit with Jim, he does a great job. Great effort Phil. If I get to cheer you on in the Olympics it will be amazing. If I on't get to cheer you on via youtube, that's cool too.

Not much flatter than Houston. There's a velodrome here too. That looks like it hurt.
It would be great if he came here!
Great work Phil !! Awesome effort !!

Oooh, things just got really exciting! (Not that Phil's videos weren't already great).
