Happy New Year, Chris. I watch a few "Pro photographers" on youtube, all of whom are not of the school "do as I do" but share suggestions, methods and ideas, which I find great! I'm not a pro and don't have aspirations to become one, happily retired and very hobbyist, but still gaining new ideas and tecniques from folk such as yourself. Looking forward to going into 2025 with you, and seeing how your channel grows.
I don't post on social media, bar the odd dog photo ontheir facebook page... But have been tempted to play with Instagram, maybe this year.

Happy New Year! Those are the best channels to follow, it's great to view their content as ideas and suggestions as opposed to rules.
I really appreciate that, thank you for being here and for following my channel! I'm really looking forward to this year, I have a lot of ideas for the channel, lots of photography, and hopefully plenty of trips to explore some new locations.
That's great! Instagram can be a really positive place, especially for those who want to share their work casually and connect with fellow photographers.

Thanks for watching Steve! Happy New Year! ☺️📸 wishing you all the best for 2025! I think social media can be a great place for photography but it certainly has its downsides! I’m trying to have a more considered approach to social media in 2025

@chrisharveyphotography i think everything you spoke of is so true and honest. Im certainly one to compare myself and my standards to others and thats just something that was taught in a way from oast experience. Allowing myself to have more of a self creative outlook is the main aim for this year.

Happy New Year Chris. I’ve dabbled but given up on social media other than posting the odd picture on my home towns Facebook page. Photography for me is a very personal, solo pursuit and I prefer it that way. Everything from going out, thinking about the subject and composition, taking the shot, editing and printing is all my own work. I refuse to even use someone else’s presets. I don’t think my pictures are particularly good but they’re mine and that gives me more pleasure. My inspiration comes from a handful of photographers like yourself, Greg at Distant Media, Ian Worth and Henry Turner. I find the “Mega Channels” are a million miles from where I would ever want to be. Thanks for another great video.

Happy New Year Alan! Wishing you all the best for 2025! I totally agree, photography is a very personal pursuit and we all want different things for our photography from casual snaps to creating a professional portfolio. I think that’s often the challenge of social media and why it’s so important to be somewhat curated in our consumption.
I’m very happy to be in such fine company there! Some great channels that I follow myself! Thanks for the continued support my friend! 🙏🏻

Perceptive content, Chris. IMO, social media “legitimate” value is declining rapidly and tainted by commercial garbage. Pre-social media, we had great camera clubs where like-minded folks could benefit and enjoy their photographic content. At least in the US camera clubs have faded. Good advice about “peer friendships”. (Was that your neighbor Scott Edwards in the vid?)
Posts on YT, etc. are not “vetted” for author credentials. Anyone can pose as a guru and offer “secrets” to “success” and “magic” practices to become super. Folks want easy answers.
    Cheers!

Thanks Paul, Happy New Year! I definitely understand where you're coming from, I've had similar feelings. I've been trying to redefine or at least adopt a more considered approach to social media to make it a little more enjoyable, both as a creator and as a consumer. There are still camera clubs over here, there are quite a few in North Wales and potentially joining one is something i'm considering for this year as you can't beat that 'in-person' interaction.
It was indeed! My friendship with Scott came about via UA-cam and Social Media so it seemed fitting!

I just use these platforms like an encyclopedia for all the images I've taken. Not a place I would rely on for business purposes. If I get a bit of attention all well and good. Platforms are like minefields so much content nothing like making a few prints at the end of the day

That’s a great use for social media, it’s nice being able to see your work in a chronological way - it acts almost as a diary! 👌🏻 I think everyone has their own motivations when it comes to social media but my aim with this video was just to share the things that have worked for me! It’s so valuable that you’ve shared your experience and how you use social media because no doubt that’ll be valuable for people to read! It’s all about sharing ideas for those who struggle with the noise of social media! Thanks for taking the time 🙏🏻☺️
