SAMOAN TALE BEHIND THIS SONG :
Two brothers (Tulifau & Tulouena) were contending for the love of a young woman and in this contest the younger brother Tulouena won the lady's hand. This did not go well with the elder brother Tulifau ,so he conspired to have his brother killed so that he could take his wife. He invited his younger brother to go fishing with him but he was plotting all along to kill Tulouena during the Trip.
As the younger bother ,Tulouena felt it was his obligation to obey his brother even if he had qualms about the proposal. His wife had no doubts,whatsoever.She knew that the older brother was jealous and she feared for her husband's life.
She told Tulouena that if the waves turned white when they reach shore, then she would know that he was alive. If red, then she knew he was dead. Her fears were subsequently justified. The older brother did kill Tulouena and the waves did turn RED.
