Thanks to Cato Lauvli catolau@gmail.com for the new intro!
His work is expensive because of the ammount of hot glue spent in each unit.
The twist is that gtu is actuallly draken and is purposefully doing shoddy work to make himself look better
My mind just exploded.
LMAO!
this mod is sponsored by the hot glue manufacturers
quick trick for getting hot glue off: use isopropyl alcohol. For some reason it loosens the bond
"And the LED is... blue" That broke me, I had to pause the video and gasp for breath, I was laughing so hard :-D Like, the guy just failed at every possible part of the project and then putting in a blue LED was just the last idiocy of Drakon's work
95% of the cost to get Drakon to mod a console is just the hot glue alone.
Drakon has the Craftsmanship of a 5 year old.
man im following the channel for so many years and yet i still smile when i see a NEW video by you with Drakon in the title , and yes i made this comment before watching just to show my excitment !
can't believe Drakon is still at it, some one needs to confiscate his glue gun.
He's probably hot glued his door shut.
Im ready to see part 2 of this for sure. My old NES RGB with the Playchoice PPU is still working like a champ. You really do the best mod given that it has had years of service since you did that for me.
Oh you have one of my old mod?!?! If yes email me! I want to do a vid about it, it's prolly not as good as you'd think, pc10 days were my starter days!
I honestly did cleaner mod work the first time I picked up a soldering iron. Love watching this though. Nice ego boost. I just installed my first hidef nes recently and that thing is amazing.
I'm sure you already know this, but alcohol will help break down hot glue almost immediately.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But jesus he's STILL AROUND?!
he's been all over this comments section, too.
Fart @ 3:44.
On another not i thought Drakon had fallen of the face of the earth!?
looking at drakons work reminds me of being in my early to mid teens and having that "cool" neighbor kid on your block that was a couple of years older who would make you false promises of grandeur. you know, that kid who would lie/cheat/steal/do anything in his power just to get you to pay him some cash so he could have money for dime bags of weed. the same kid who youd reluctantly lend things to and if they were ever returned they would be sticky with torn labels. as i look at his work i can almost hear my parents saying "you better not let that neighbor boy touch THIS one because we're not buying you another one..."
Oh dear. Dear oh dear. I mean....I love the guys enthusiasm for retro gaming and modifications. I'm just not sure why he insists on submerging all his work in hot glue.
It's ironic that he adds connectors for making future repairs easier, and yet bathes the board in glue.
I'm sorry for my old work. I almost completely stopped using hot glue years ago. I worked on this console before 2013, he purposely neglects to mention important information like that.
TheDrakon
he did mention he had the console for a year. so it stands to reason that the mod would have been a few years old
That's clearly untrue as the majority of comments people leave is that they think this is current work and that I never learned to improve. He made that information as vague and unclear as possible on purpose because he wants people to think bad things about me since I politely declined to be filmed for his youtube channel. His constant misinformation about me is no accidental mistake, he does this on purpose.
TheDrakon
well I heard him make clear statements. It's not his fault if others don't hear.
And judging by your attempt to gaslight me, I'm guessing you haven't improved much.
I think it's pretty clear that it's very old mod work because it doesn't even have an NESRGB and it also has a PC10 PPU, so no, he's not being vague or doing this on purpose (as in not posting it for fun, he's telling YOU how to improve your work). His first video he posted of your Front Loader NES has him commenting in the beginning that he had been debating for months to even post up the video because of the potential negative attention towards your work and his channel. If you improved your mod work Drakon then great. I also think that if the console works, then fine, great. But one thing's for sure, you definitely haven't changed your attitude at all over all these years and that's another thing you need to improve.
maybe if he didnt use stiff af solid core wires and soldered properly he wouldnt need to glue it all together
and looks like he was using mains powered chinesium soldering iron without any temp control
great video, I can't wait to see drakons next console, I am happy I got my RGB mod done by Retrofixes and not by drakon, also you should make a video of you bringing your PVM back to life.
Wow. Looked like the subject of a bukkake video.
Lmao!
I don't get it. I just learned to solder this year and even I look at drakons work at am just amazed at how badly he does these things
Looks like your PVM's green gun has been getting dimmer and dimmer over the years. Probably a re-cap of the signal section will do what it needs, though if the tube has had many hours on it maybe a light restore of the guns would help too.
Can you fix laptops? I meant to hit the like button on this video but the directions were unclear and ended up getting hot glue on the screen and now it won't come off.
sanyr80 same now have hot glue all.over my face
ouch
brooke robertson
Not saying much but this is considerably better than his "mods" from a few years back. Still well below par to provide a "mod service" with this level of quality though.
Uhm thanks? I worked on this console before 2013. He wants to create the impression that this is somehow current work so he purposely neglected to mention that.
I almost completely stopped using glue years ago, with the exception of maybe putting a dab on a ground plate or some place where it would be very easy to remove, away from solder joints, just to secure wires.
He actually mentioned that its old work and he even said "i would love to see my old work its probably shit as well" or something along those lines.
Yeah that's why he's made zero videos about his old work, because he really wants to do that.
The only comment I saw him say about the age of it is that he's had the console for one year.
Are we ever going to see the frontloader from the end of this video? I really want to know what the switches, knobs, and db9 connector are for.
Moral of the story, don't let Drakon do any mod work on your consoles.
This is disgusting. This guy shouldn't be modding anything if he is just going to fucking hot glue everything. (I mean Drakon btw not us just to be clear).
I don't disagree that the work is shoddy (bloody hell even my work is better than that and I'm an incompetent when it comes to electronics), but hot snot isn't in and of itself a bad thing; anything that provides extra strength to fragile soldering is OK by me.I'd rather that than shoddy work with no resilience.
I'm 50/50 with Drakon. If the outside casing looks good and it works fine then whatever I guess. It's the outrageous prices he charges, his cockiness, and his more horrid looking consoles that he's done that I really hate. But also, if something does go wrong in his consoles, then they'd be almost impossible to fix with all of the hot glue mess.
Thanks. I'm unsure where you got the idea that I'm currently cocky. I improved my work immensely going back as far as 2013 making it much easier to undo, this was always my goal. The prices I charged before was because other work pays better for less work (even if I were doing this console work properly) so I had to be realistic about asking for enough money.
You have to do mods and electronics stuff to develop the skills involved in such work, so naturally if a person is doing something on a small scale naturally their earlier results will be more rough than what they will produce after they have learned from past projects.
I can't speak to the actual situation but I for one think that work I just saw if it all functioned perfectly fine was at least adequate and the quality of the construction/work should be really only influence the price. Maybe show pictures of the inside of the console is a lesson to learn but not terrible.
You don't practice on customers machines. If I were to give back computers I worked like that I'd be fired.
I really wouldn't be surprised if Drakon is just selling these mods without someone commissioning him for it.
To be honest it does not look too bad. Granted it is a mess and a bit damaged but it all works and seems decent enough yet.
I saw you post something about Drakon again, must watch, sleep not that important.
---------
Not disappointed, he still loves pushing his splooge all over the place. Seriously, why the hell is this guy obsessed with hot glue so much?
I almost bought a console on ebay a while back that looked identical to the one you showed at the very end. Now i'm glad I didn't.
Was it back in January? I've seen one just like it too.
Man I love these type of videos
The thing that gets me, is how back in the day he had built up some kind of reputation...and had these high prices, and a waiting list, for God's sake. I don't know how he pulled that off.
I'm assuming your first Drakon vid put that to a stop. That was a very memorable vid.
I didn't have much of a waiting list, if any at all. Part of the reason why I raised my price was to slow down the amount of work I had because I felt bad about the quality of my work and I wanted to do less of it until I had time to sit down and improve.
Tim Worthington mentioned Drakon's footage for some of his RGB mod kits on his website. I really don't think it's a wise idea to ever use Drakon's name positively, especially since Tim's the guy responsible for some of the only/best RGB modding hardware currently available.
Can't wait for the next one, these videos are why I subscribed!
It might look like the aftermath of a bukkake party, but it's still better than my mod work lmao.
MmmMMMMmmmm, dat YELLOWING!
Drakon, got anything you wanna tell us??
use some isopropyl to get the glue off
"Bad Drakon Mods" is quickly becoming my favorite video genre on UA-cam.
Oh my god, that wad of hot glue, wires, and capacitors.
11:36 - No! 🙈
Haha nice ending :) waiting for the frontloader video :D
What's this guy's deal with hot glue?
im proud to say, that my mods look NOTHING like this, but thanks for showing us this for the laughs
If there's ever a shortage of hot glue then we know why!
Fix your goddamn monitor, GameTechUS!
"Make em hot and pull em off" is my new catchphrase
I have to say, after watching the drakon dissection videos multiple times (mostly out of boredom and fascination) this one actually looks good, especially compared to the first frontloader.
If I had to tell him something while bashing him over the head though it would be to get thinner wire. Jesus christ not everything needs to be done with 20 gauge hookup cable. They're not going to move, especially after a dousing of hot glue so enameled copper or kynar wire would likely be fine for the signal wires.
Thank you very much. I worked on this system before 2013. He purposely neglected to mention how dated this example is because he wants to falsely make it look like this example is current. I started using thinner wire and almost completely stopped using hot glue years ago, with the exception of small dabs away from solder joints in places that are very easy to remove it later.
TheDrakon Even a little "dabs" of hot glue to me seems not only possibly damaging to the console's plastic/PCB, but is nothing i would want in any of my consoles... Could you imagine how much a business like microsoft would get grilled if they even used an inch of glue for repairs? Whether you learned or not isn't the question. Because of your mistakes some people had bad mod work and even had non-working consoles or parts of the A/V not properly work. Thats why people don't trust you. If you would of used non-conductive materials and do better soldering, you might of not had this reputation. Instead of attacking people for simply having an opinion on mod work, why don't you just start fresh? Get a new name reputation and use the proper tools for modding (that is if you even want to do modding anymore). Because with these videos... I wish you loads of luck getting people. Thats my opinion on this, thanks for reading.
Actually... Sega used dabs of glue inside of every 32x system to secure wires connecting the two pcbs together.
I'm not microsoft, I'm a hobbyist who was hounded by people to work on their consoles until I very reluctantly started doing it after warning my early customers about the bad quality of my work.
So far there's only been one system I worked on where it was claimed that it showed up non-working, even though I posted a video of it working perfectly fine before mailing it out. Many customers claimed their systems weren't working when the actual problem wasn't the system but their cables or their setup. That's why back in the day I started making videos showing their consoles working before mailing them out.
Any customer who had the modesty to consider something about their setup was the cause of their issue I would happily troubleshoot the issue with them over the internet and I managed to fix every single one who was willing to work with me that way.
I don't want to do this work any more, I've been saying that for years. I politely asked him to take down the old videos because of the harassment I receive because of his videos about me. He asked me to be filmed for his youtube channel. Because I politely declined to be filmed for his channel he made and posted this video.
No, the hot glue itself doesn't damage anything. It's just a hinderance when you need to do further repairs, which let's face it, these things are getting precious now but they aren't made to last 40 years, and putting more things on top that also might fail eventually doesn't help either.
As to electronics, isopropanol is guaranteed not to damage PCB, electronic components or soldered down connectors, but it releases hot glue, so yeah, that's what you do if you have to get rid of it. It'll still probably clamp around cable bundles, so the mod would be ruined when using so much glue, but with a tiny amount, that would be fine. Though isopropanol isn't guaranteed to leave enclosure plastics unscathed, so there's that, but there usually isn't visible damage except on paints or stickers.
I think the modified parts should be as open as feasible for inspection and troubleshooting, so there's where hot glue just makes the worst impression, it just always seems to hide more nastiness, like slowly corrosive flux not being cleaned up, terrible solder joints, lifted pads that haven't been replaced and epoxied back on, those kinds of things.
But Bing Talks, if you want modification work specifically done to factory standards... well that's just not going to happen, you can't apply engineering and production standards that are intended to produce millions of items, to one-offs.
I totally agree with you. At the time I built these I was a complete beginner and at the time I thought these would be the best upgrades and nothing better would ever come out. I've undone a lot of my old work and I learned years ago to do better work that's less destructive and easier to undo.
Once again. A perfect chance to have spooky horror music playing and a Jason Mask. All for the terror to seeing a Drakon Creation of Horror. Though I get this is a serious channel...yeah.
Really like your new intro.
Drakon king of hot glue.
He should start using epoxy
Whoa. I don't even know what to say about this.
Shhhh! Don't give him any ideas!
sxpv why not just freeze it in Carbonite?
First I was getting flashes of Raiders of the Lost Ark when they opened the ark. Then when I saw the gashes on the pcb suddenly the drill sergant from Full Metal was going "what is that, wtf is that". Never have I seen such a massive failure in worksmanship. Good to see that the guy who made these mods shaped up
Haven't even watched video yet(ad is running) my first words where "what the fuck is that!?" When I was the thumbnail... can't wait to see this one.
Tips:
1. That hot glue gun either isn't heating up hot enough or the guy is trying to flow too much hot glue through it cooling the nozzle down.
2. Hot glue can be removed by rubbing alcohol.
3. If your solder joints are not holding it could be any number of things. I strongly recommend going over some how-to-solder videos here on youtube and INVESTING in very good solder(this is business your customers deserve the good solder!).
4. Hot glue is great for amateur projects and quick fixes if you're serious use GE Silicone II AND IT BETTER BE ONLY DOTS! There's no reason to make lakes and rivers. ( www.amazon.com/GE-Silicone-10-1-Ounce-Cartridge-GE5000/dp/B0000CBJ7W ) this is pro stuff so don't fuck around with it, respect the tool.
5. You only really use glue in equipment that will be under constant vibration, this is so the glue is transferring vibration forces between the component and the board and not the solder joint. Vibration dampening is not appropriate for a solid state game console! This ties in with 3 but you need to do better solder joints and not use glue. If Your solder joints are so weak that they pop off in shipping then the glue won't matter some time in the future through thermal changing size the joints will probably pop off on their own no matter how much glue you put on them.
Even his work is better now, this is still informative about what not to do. Splooging all over a piece of kit that you then sell to someone is kinda sick.
...and those scalpel scratches. Wow.
Oh Lord here we go. Still in the intro 😎😎(^_-)👊👊👊
The soldering at 18:18 makes me think he was suffering a seizure.
o.0 cannot wait for the 3rd console in the drakon series!! or would it be the 4th? anyway can already see misaligned holes... besides entertainment value, hopefully this shows modders what not to do!! me personally i would love to open up some of my earlier consoles. How is drakons latest work? does he learn? or have his head up his arse?
is the black sh!t over the multiout to cover up the hot glue jiz>? guess i need to wait....
These videos are a guilty pleasure ;)
The expletives Voultar would say if he seen that would be legendary lol
looks much better than his previous debacles but still has some work. At least he's improved a bit.
The console in this video is pre-2013, it looks like one of the very first systems I ever worked on. He purposely neglects to mention this.
You should contact the hot glue manufacturing companies and tell them to rename it Hot Snot!
well looks better than his other work there is that and he still loves the hot glue tho, still wouldn't want him anywhere near any of my consoles.
I don't have much of an interest in the NES or modding them, but enjoy watching these videos for some reason.
I'm gonna buy hot glue stocks. I know it'll always have value singlehandedly thanks to Drakon
What happened between gametech and Drakon. Just the poor quality or something more?
I don't think it's anything personal. If you check out his older videos there was one that he did where a customer had sent him a console to repair after he had Drakon do an RGB mod on it. I believe he mentioned that was his first time seeing Drakon's work.
Hi. Years ago every time I posted that I came up with something new, gametechus would send me a private message asking me to give him my work for free, which I did for quite some time. I eventually worked with a friend and came up with a clock divider circuit for the nes. Like clockwork gametechus sent me a private message asking me to hand over the schematic of my work to him for free.
This time, I politely declined to just hand it over to him. Instead I gave him the same information I was given that I used to make the circuit. Because I didn't give gametechus my work for free, he made those first videos about my work.
Recently I politely asked him if he could take those old videos down or edit out the parts where he mentions me because of harassment I receive on youtube. Gametechus asked me to be filmed on his youtube channel. Since I have no interest in doing this work again and I want to move away from this community peacefully, I politely declined. Because I declined to be filmed for his youtube channel, gametechus made this video.
This is what gametechus does when people politely decline to let him use them or their work for his own personal gain.
Hi, it's very personal. He made those first videos because he asked for me to give him my work for free and I politely declined. He made this video because he asked me to be filmed for his youtube channel and I politely declined.
This is what gametechus does when people politely decline to let him use them or their work for his own personal gain.
He keeps these poor examples of my work sitting around on purpose so he can make and post these videos whenever I try posting the truth about what really happened.
Drakon is infamous in the modding community for shoddy work, high prices in relation to the workmanship and completely necessary amounts of hot glue. Drakons attitude to anyone who criticises his 'work' has caused him to be ostracised from the community. So it's not GametechUS in particular, but it sure sucks to be sent a console to be 'fixed' and find that some idiot has spunked hot glue all over it.
Every time a person directly sent me constructive criticism I was very appreciative. The problem is that 98% of the time I'd only receive criticism with no explanation on how to actually do the work properly.
I've fixed many consoles that were damaged by other modders. I didn't complain about it publicly, I just nicely let them know what they did wrong and how to instead do it right when I was able to contact the person.
"that just looks like a crazy person did that"
Lol! When I saw the title I'm thinking, " Oh no, hasn't this Drakon guy learned?" My goodness......
Yes I learned and stopped doing work like this back in 2013. I worked on this system before 2013. He purposely neglected to mention this because he wants to create a false impression of me.
TheDrakon
he did say it was an old mod.
And even said he heard you stopped using hot glue since then.
So you either didn't watch the video and lying. or just lying.
He's purposely making the age of this as vague and unclear as possible. realevostevo thinks I never learned to improve because of this video. gametechus does this on purpose because he wants viewers to think this is current and that I never learned or improved.
the drakon mods is what first got me to your channel
The guy can't solder lol 😂
Moar Hot Snot!
I think framing the dirty one and a drakon console is a good idea, because it's your idea to do it, and you'd like to do it
WTF, man!? This Drakon guy, geez .... I've seen crappy soldering work from a newbie during their first couple of hours, but near the end of a 4 hour session, they have improved so much that it only begs the question; what in the heck is wrong with you Drakon? Are you using a pencil torch for "soldering". I am not sorry yo, this is sad. Everyone out here, even with little to no experience, just by understanding the proper techniques of soldering you will become proficient eventually. I don't know what to even think of this. Damn.
I find these funny but how do you get a hold of this guys work so much? Just people wanting their shit to work right and they find you or is there some forum both you guys frequent or something? Pretty new to the channel so I don't know the entire backstory to this guy and his work yet. XD
Back in the day I became popular so I worked on many consoles years ago. Only one console I worked on was ever reported as not working properly, even though I had made a video of it working just fine before mailing it out.
YUSS SLAAYY THE TALES LIVE ON!
OMG that multi-out who taught this guy how to solder and why are the wires not hook around the lees of the multi-out.
Drakon sure loves hot glue!
drakon loves hot glue, rumor has it hes marrying it very shortly
Wow its really weird that i just went back yesterday to look at your other Drakon videos .
Why doesn't he just use Kapton tape?
Hi, I started using good quality electrical tape years ago because over time kapton tape degrades and comes right off.
hey dude, if you have time on your hands between hi def shipments and your going through back listed work, im keen to see a follow up on those sharp nes tv's you were looking to rgb mod. especially rgb modding the crt itself
LOL hot glue as always
it also looks like the external shell could stand a round of retrobrite?
27:22 I've seen one just like that sold on ebay back in late January or early February I think and warned people about it on nintendoage. Although it had a whole bunch of hot glue around the multi-out.
Let me know if you see some that might be from him i'll keep doing these vids as long as I get the consoles to show off, it's just too much fun to see the insides!
I'd really appreciate if you'd please stop making these videos as they inspire people to harass me.
when you flipped the main board over I almost shit myself. all that glue, and those scratched traces.... wtf!
Luckily, the owner of Super Famicom Play Station didn't find you to repair the console.
You did the dirty mod very well.
hot snot city , or man milk ????? haha
Dude, do you still repair work? Theres a job im not sure I can do myself, its replacing a DSi cartridge slot. What would you charge for that if you still do repairs, please let me know!
Doctor Drakon sure gets around. I heard he used to be Drew, and then he turned blue...
gotta love those molex conectors
nice work bro , from brazil !
hey what cartridge did you use for this video when trying to use a reg nes and not the one that came with it
that cliffhanger...
New intro is WAY better
looks like spiderman jizzed all over it @ 4:45
All the hot glue is going to make future repairs more difficult, it can be peeled off flat surfaces easily but you risk damaging components.
You can degrade the hot glue with alcohol so it gets off way easier and is less likely to damage the components. I think it was Lord Voultar who showed it in one of his videos.
So is he covering up shitty soldering by then "reinforcing" his joints with glue?
are we ever going to get to see the console at the end of the video?
What's the best way to replace those pads as far as procuring replacement pads?
He is probably getting to screws from the RF shield of front loaders.
He better leaving the security screws in so customer can’t see the mod work lol.
I saw this video title, and was disgusted already. I am hoping he never gets his hands on High-def NES kits. I can think of thousands of ways for him to muck that up.
That looked not so bad compared to some of the other's previously shown. That said for the asking price of his mod work it could and SHOULD look better than that. On the flip side I have seen far worse wire management options than hot glue.
Thanks, but I worked on this system before 2013. He purposely doesn't mention that these examples are extremely dated.
