One of the thing I hate most is when looting it shows value as 15k or 20k, but vendors will buy them only for 1/10th of the price

Maybe you have to go to a certain vendor? Like some Vendors will buy at list price, but others buy for much less?
Also the Commerce skill makes it so you buy cheaper and sell for more, so maybe we all need that.
That’s just the Bethesda way, it’ll cost that much if you try to buy it from them (if you don’t use buy back)
Yeah, that'a the value, not the price. Been like that forever in these games. Basically what it means is that an item is worth that much in the shop if YOU were to buy it there. If you're the one SELLING it, you're getting much, much less. Tbf, that's how business in general works lol. Buy things for a low price and then sell it for a higher price. Kinda makes sense. That said, it wouldn't hurt them to change this to tbe price you'd actually get. I mean who the hell wants to know what the price of an item you found would be in the shop? What does that information do for me?
The math might be stacked and used against the value of the item. Stolen artwork is 15,600. He sells it for 2,340. Assume no Commerce skill. That's 15% of the value. Commerce skill 1 adds 10%, 2 adds 15%, 3 adds 20%, 4 adds 25%. Assumed they stack. So at level 1 that item would sell for 15+10=25%, so 3,900. At level 2 that's 25+15=40%, so 6,240. At level 3 that's 40+20=65%, so 10,140. At level 4 that's 65+25=90%, so 14,040

Having the commerce skill definitely helps as well because you'll be able to sell the contraband for more credits

any of the kill missions are good for contraband, some of them producing 3 or more. The snake guys are really good because their gear has high value ratio, they are a bit painful to fight on very hard, but manageable.

I dont know about other factions but the Free Rangers has a sperate bounty board so you can double up on missions.
Also drop into the pilots chair, go to 'ship' menu, make home ship, register (if you have the credits now, if not doesn't matter can be registered later), upon exiting that screen it will undock from your original ship, point at it and dock with it immediately before it leaves, go back to original ship, make home ship, go to next 'destroy' mission, repeat. Register/sell before you reach the ship cap. Net another 5-6k depending on the ship level per mission.
My man the part that you tell about The Den you saved my cargo big time 😅😅
Do simple weapon upgrades to get more value out of them, and for more expensive guns like AA19 do expensive mods because the money per upgrade scales better.
Crimson theiving missions are fast money. Randomly pick up a smuggle when the price is right too. Over 20k in under 5 minutes. Be sure to save game before picking up smuggle mission to avoid fines.
Hopetown also has a Trade Authority Vendor sitting around a lounge that you can sell contraband to. Found him following the Barret rescue mission and getting side tracked by another mission. Did not get scanned going to the planet.
So the not getting scanned may have either been a part of doing the main mission or a bug where the ship went directly on the planet without the scanning happening.

At 1:19 you run past a mission board on the right. Jump up on the ledge and there is one right there you can go to instead of running to the bar.
Yup this is the one I go to instead of the one in Viewport
Another thing to say is the vault on the floating casino resets every 7 days go back and can loot all containers again ive found 5-10 pieces of contraband in there every time (make sure to set your game to the hardest difficulty before docking to get the best loot)

@giannisiwakeimidis7854 in game lol if you do all the waiting for the venders to restock money every 2 days in game the 7 days go by fast and its easy money sense the spacers in the casino don't respawn just the loot!
i did it once my friend, i slept 7 24 in the wolf system, and i went again and it was empty, did i do something wrong??

@giannisiwakeimidis7854 It may not be exactly 7 days but that's what I've been using to reset it after I saw a reddit post about contraband spawns, I've gotten it to do it every time I've tried, make sure your going off the time in brackets not the main time on the left I've found that that is the actual reset time as the main time is local time for each planet and depending on how close or far it is from its sun it can drastically change how much time passes
you can land on the planet that’s trying to scan you if you have another landing spot to land at besides the main city. i like going to mars and landing at the red devil base before they complete the scan.

If you really want to do that you need to play Avorion 🤣. Anything ship/space station related in terms of building thats 1000% the game you need to check out
the bartender in the red mile will buy contraband as well and if you join the crimson fleet all the vendors in the key will buy it
You can bang out planet surface ship raids quick, sometimes back to back. I just raid the ship quickly before it takes off with me in it killing everyone in sight and then loot the contraband. I recommend either get shielded cargo before then or unlock star systems outside of uc and freestar
In game time on different planets wont count the same as others but you do have a ut time that is shared via the galaxy
Not only you get credits, you also get xp, amazing
So heads up i tried to do this pretty early and when i went to Pormia 3 i got absolutely destroyed by some ships upon arrival.
Shielded cargo only works when it’s in your ships cargo and not in your inventory so place it in your ship
So if we have joined the crimson fleet, can you we dock any ship in space easily that is crimson fleet? Or will that cause us to no longer be a part of the crimson fleet? That space station is too nice to just get rid of access to it. You can sell anything and everything even contraband to all venders of the key.

24 hours rest (the max) is 50 (the 48 you need) universal hours, which resets the vendors.

I usually miss contraband and have to reload to seek it out on pirate ship. However if I switch ships at wolf all items aboard the pirate ship transfer to my other ship and I can sell at the trade authority without spending frustrating minutes seeking contraband. I also pronounce it as aluminum…. 🙄
Also joining the UC and doing there missions gets you loafs of credits , basically every mission you get 10k credits and loads of loot

You have to go to the ship builder. To move parts up and down use up and down on the d-pad. To add parts to your ship move your cursor to empty ground and press A to add parts.
Seems like every "how to get rich quick in a video game" tutorial is the same. The answer is always "steal and kill."

Its not like you found some big mystery... you can earn creds in so many ways. Doesnt it make a little bit of sense like in reality and every other game that tries some form or roleplay and realism that stealing and killing gets you money.. shocking.

Now if only there were a reason to stockpile creds. . .I will check xp/hr on these but so far I haven't found anything that beats just heading to a hostile planet and having a safari. Last night I just sat on a rock while level 40 spiders spawned and got 4-5 shot via snipe for 75 exp a pop.
I would stockpile for some ship building funs. But yeah other than that kinda useless.

@@steve323f Bolivar was excellent for me, very earth-like planet that doubles as a good outpost location. The ice caps up north have no life but the southern hemisphere was great for hunting. It’s super accessible just south of Porrima which most people go to for the Mantis quests.
@@JodouTR I've found a good one too. Schrödinger 3. It's got herbivores for between 25 to 80 xp and foxbats that are sods but you get 50 to 130 xp per kill. 👍
Dude he also sells a jammer on equipment category in ship mods, better chance of not getting succesfully scanned
Yea this. Don’t sleep on the jammer. The one that requires starship design rank 2 reduces detection chance by 50 percent. Between that and a good shielded cargo, the chance of my contraband being detected is down to 10% now. Basically never happens.
So if i got rid of the crimson fleet can i still do the destroy the crimson fleet missons?

as a crimson fleet member, just do crimson fleet missions instead for big money
but, the bounties gained from doing the missions will cut a bit out of your profits
i personally only go for the piracy missions due to their abundance and how easy they are
the smuggling / stealing missions are also good, but tedious
I sided with the crimson fleet idk if this has anything to do with it, but when I do the destroy missions they won’t give me a mission marker pls help
Edit: I failed the mission(press one of the joy sticks) and accepted another mission and it worked
is there anyway to do this as a Crimson fleet pirate? Can i go after UC and Freestart ships from the Cimson Fleet mission boards and still find contraband, or are the pirates the best spawn chance.
Piratee are the only ones to my knowledge who consistently have contraband.

if my ship has both a shielded cargo and a standard one, do the contraband items default to the shielded bay if I just drop them in the hold with everything else?
yea, just put your contraband in there, and you automatically get 50% protection on base skill. Make sure to put it in your ship cargo before leaving and not on yourself or crew. It doesn't work otherwise.
Shielded cargo hold just adds a percentage chance not to find contraband when scanned, it isn't a separate cargo hold. Rank up the deception skill to further increase the odds, however just go to The Den in the Wolf star system. Literally no risk whatsoever. I think this might be an oversight and will be patched.
I wish Starfield was on Unreal Engine 5.

Sounds like fun but requires being a decent pilot, which I am not....LOL! Can you make a video on how to get good at piloting? Not sure if I should lower my sensitivity or what but I seem to bounce all over the place and just end up getting disoriented and then, blown up. And I have not survived long enough in a fight to even explore trying to target engines or allocate power on the fly.
if i have 2 non shield cargo and 1 shielded cargo, will my contraband automatically be stored in the shielded one?
No it works more compliacted. It only gives you a chance to shield the amount that is less than the shielded cargo. If you go above, the chance is pretty low
It's a 50 percent chance but can increase with the proper skill investment.
Even with shielded cargo. Simply reload if you feel the need to if they find it on your ship. One reload is sometimes all it takes
Get a ship with a pharmacist lab and make Aurora in every city port then go sell it to trade authority. I’ve made thousands.

@@thisme3138 you can go to neon and work for yannick who owns the liquor store. He gets you a job at xenofresh as long as you have his back! And you make Aurora there for the club. That’s where you can get the recipe also make 5k every 24 hours doing that
In order to get the recipe there is a side quest you need to finish a few times to learn the recipe and steal resources
How do you do this if you're with the fleet
I REALLY wish there was a perk for craft/sell from your storage at the lodge! Like COME on Bethesda! We can craft/sell from aaaaalll the way back at your ship, but you can't from right in the basement (if you are at the research machines).
Even if they just made it so it was a perk you had to get, it would be soo great. I have Soo much research stuff but I don't know what's worth keeping now, what might be worth later, or anything else.
Only things under "Materials" is useful. Anything under "misc" can be dropped / vendored

Judging by the ship in your video, new players such as myself are not able to get this shielded cargo thing yet? My character has the stock Frontier and I cannot find an option for the shielded cargo thing.

Working on the deception skill because even with shielded cargo and scanner on ship, my character still can't evade? Check.

In Starfield, You can also get shielded cargo modules from the Crimson Fleet HQ, The Key, but only if The Key is still under Pirate Control... if its not go to the Red Mile
Edit: Contraband is also available on Spacer Ships and maybe the Elptic
Now if only vendors carried enough cash...

On New Atlantis the Trade Authority resets after 24 hours maybe 25.
Every vendor resets after 48 hours, but on the Universal Time, not local.
Depending on where you sleep / wait, it will change.
What About sellin also ships?
Not worth it. Very low profit since you have to register the ship before you can sell it

one problem. 99% of us we cant dock, even crimson pirate ships, even with max piloting skill, from space, just never lets us
You have to use the targeting skill and use em weapons on their Shields, engine, and gravdrive. It helps to bring their Shields down before you enter targeting mode because I've had that issue before where I couldn't dock with any ships
The den isn’t showing up for me and I’m 15 hours in.
Don't get me wrong, the guide has a lot of useful info in it, that being said, if you're simply trying to game the system through save scumming and removing all risk then you might as well open up the console and gift yourself the credits. saves you way more time and effort that you can instead put towards the story or narratives. IMO it's more fun to RP as a true smuggler and roll the dice on jammers. for those console peasants unable to access console commands, well, my heart goes out to ya but also dafuq you thinkin' of buying a Bethesda game on console?!!
Is it possible to also take over the pirate ship and sell it?
Yes, but you have to pay to register the ship before you can sell it. There's not a lot of profit when you do that, maybe a few thousand, on most ships since the Commerce skill doesn't count for ships.

Yes, you get fined. So not really worth it then.
Yeah....I did a bunch of bounties, now my bounty with the crimson fleet is upwards of $200,000. So I can't proceed with the undercover quest line till I make an insane amount of money
Just look for ones to fight other factions like Eclipse. Harder to find, harder to do, but still possibility of contraband

I must be doing something wrong. I replaced all my cargo containers with shielded ones but i still get caught
Have to make sure the cargo is in the cargo hold not your inventory
It's a % chance to get past the scans not a guaranteed thing plus the contraband has to be lower mass than the mass space in the hold.
My biggest problem with this game is the XP. It is so horribly slow, which is why I ended up downloading a multiplier mod for it. At first I was reluctant because it felt like cheating in my mind, but then I ended up doing it anyway I set it to 5x, which I felt would probably be too much but honest to god, it feels normal now. It's clear they didn't want people to be max level in one playthrough for this game. Probably due to NG+, but I want to reach max level and then go into NG+ at a higher difficulty and max level
Sounds like your "biggest problem" with this this game is you cant earn your experience your way through the game. Better add 1 million xp for my character so I feel like I know what Im doing lol before I even try the base questline lmao 😂

I just found the XP too slow so I downloaded something to speed it up - not "add 1 million XP for my character". Wtf does it matter to you? It's a singleplayer game and this makes it more enjoyable to me. Stop being a fucking elitist over something as trivial as an XP boosting mod. It's not like I use god mode. This just gives me more joy in the game I bought for €100. Sue me 😂
@@chasem8898 Just Google for "Starfield XP multiplier Nexus". It'll probably be the first result. Just follow the instructions and you're set. While you're at it, if you're on an NVIDIA card, download the DLSS mod by PureDark too. Makes the game look 10x better and in most cases, it increases the FPS you're getting too (depending on your specs). If not, it will atleast look way cleaner, like I said. Good luck 👍🏻
You can get XP through normal means if you know what you're doing. Simply setup some mining outposts for specific materials to make a certain part/material. We are talking MANY levels within a couple hours and dang near can max it in about 5 to 6 hours if your devoted enough. As to which part you can do the magnets it gives a TON of XP and technically creds to just remember you can't take the creds to NG+ so you can stop selling at 500kish. I'm not taking all the fun out of it though so give that a try if you wanna do it without mods. I don't get wanting to be max level in a matter of a few days but it's a option if you want it.

@@mrthaimasterfor real. I am upset there's no ammo crafting skill. I'd dump points into that so fast. But I never buy ammo, I scrounge off npcs for it and carry 5 guns with different ammo types.

The sell values make no sense. Even if you add the Commerce skill, you only get 25% extra at max level. 25% of that 2 or 3k per item is like an extra 500 credits or so. But the "value" is some 16k when you look at the item. It's useless.

Way I look at it, value is like the MSRP, and we're the wholesaler/middleman 😅

you need the targeting perk and when you're locked on you can choose which segment of the ship to target
@@job_97don't forget, you need the engines to be fully grayed out before you can dock. People forget that step
Let's be honest, if you "Forget" you have Contraband on you, it's not going to be in your Ship Inventory!

You probably have a UC bounty you need to clear. You need to go to a self service bounty kiosk in freestar collective to clear it. Might be able to find one at the bar in Akila city
Because you have a bounty that happened to me last night. Drop your contraband in the den and handle your bounty and itll all still be on the floor when you get back
too bad there's not really anything cool to buy.
New ship mods, new weapons and armor sets, resources to fund base building, buy more ammo, buy homes, theres literally many reasons to have a lot of money.
@@BigBlackGlock GOOD weapons and armor aren't really sold from what I've seen, you're better off looting them off enemies. Resources for base building? brother I bought the entire store and still couldn't properly furnish my house. ships are just uh, well kind of meh. Somehow in the space exploration game I find I have the least amount of fun on my ship. My opinion of course

You forgot some of us are choosing to side with the crimson fleet so this is a way to get robbed of all your money everytime you board the Key
My games bugged the ship vendor in jemison and akila never reset so I can’t sell more ships :/
These trade authority dudes buy the contraband for like 1/10th the price, hardly a fast way to make considerable moeny.
I just did a quest where I bought something to save some people because I’m a good guy and now I’m broke af, please donate some credits it’s for a good cause 😣
