Steve is one of the best frontmen in rock! The guy deserves so much respect and attention. Incredible performer, still great vocally, and funny and entertaining as all get out. KIX just might be the best live band out there. They knock it out of the park every time I see them.
I saw kix every time they played at hammer jacks, damn they tore it down and made it a parking lot. Kix are such a great band, very underrated which is too bad because they are one of the greatest live bands
I'm so glad I got to see KIX so many times over the years...including the final show at Merriweather. Every year at M3, they were without a doubt the best band on the bill. Steve is a KILLER front man. No one will ever do the "audience participation" part better than him! Check out just about any live version of Cold Blood and you'll know what I mean.
What blew me away about this band was after me & some friends went down to College Park for a show that was being recorded for what was supposed to have been their "Hot Wire" music video. After the show we went around the back of the arena (Cole Field House) just hoping to get some autographs on the banner one of my friends had airbrushed up for the show. They did sign all sign it, and then the guys (except Steve, who had his wife & kid there and needed to get them home) just sat out there in the rain shooting the shit for a good 20 minutes with a bunch of random teenagers (us). This was at the height of their national popularity, right after "Don't Close Your Eyes" blew up & "Tear Down the Walls" was still getting airplay on MTV (and MTV still played music). Just blew me away that a major band would do something like that.
Use to see KIX at the MT. VIEW!!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!! AND THE CUMBERLAND FAIRGROUNDS, ALMOST EVERY YEAR AT THE COUNTY FAIR!!! LOVE ME SUM KIX!!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Here is a band that needed more credit, when you buy their CD and listen, then see them live they sound just like the CD. Kix is a great band to see live.
They were BIG In Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, ever since 1981, then in 82, we moved to Charlotte NC, and about 2 years later KIX got more popular there too. A band getting big anywhere may come down to just ONE fan, playing just a few minutes of a band for another person.
I started Funny Money with Steve in 1996. I recorded and produced the first 3 FM cds in my living room. I never get credit for keeping KIX alive in those days. my name is not even mentioned in this interview
I'm sure it isn't out of disrespect bro. I mean your not gonna go down a list of people to thank every interview and this one seemed to be pretty small time anyway. I guarantee the guys appreciate what you did. I thank you also
That is the Maryland (Marilyn) accent in perfect form (Steve Whitman). Steve is one the best front mans of Rock period. Grunge killed off the Rock Glam & Hairbands in the early mid 90s. The record labels were idiots and totally mismanaged this band. I am looking forward to seeing KIX in 2021 post-Covid. Glad to see the band is healthy and I wish them all the best!
pisses me off they should have been billionaires and on any show or documentary about the most honest and creative rock and roll. it's so emblematic of the old "you need something to fall back on." they did everything right. better than Motley Crue Ratt or anyone of the era sorry not sorry Nikki Sixx you guys made good and I love you but KIX is musically superior to all of them. did everything right, have the songs to back it up and they still have to work regular jobs once in a while. Steve Whiteman and the rest should be in the Hall of Fame and be worshiped like the Beatles. MD produced the best hard rock band to ever walk Earth
Steve my Uber driver in Dewey Beach Delaware the night you guys played a good bottle and cork I went to see my good friends love seed Mama jump instead greatly mistaken time but my Uber driver loves the real Kix said he wouldn't listen to the new Kik cuz he doesn't think it's going to be the same I said I swear to you and I'm not wasting your money it's your going to thank me and you're never going to see me again by their new CD from a few years ago he said are you honest I said I swear to God you're going to thank me and you're never going to see me again
Kix is massively underrated. They are one of the greatest bands of the 80s. Whiteman was a great frontman, always engaged with the audience. Band always sounded nice and tight. The total package. Kix > Motley Crue to me. At least all the members of Kix could actually play there instruments
Steve I've had in here for this s*** since I was a child like 5 years old in the 70s and I know what rock cells and what rock doesn't sell I should have been a music producer and they are A&R man or something my father is a taxidermist I didn't go that route but I do saying I do play guitar and do you guys got screwed so hard by Atlantic
The guy interviewing is not good. It is Rock your Face off! And then to say you have a favorite song on an album you don't even know the name of! And I think he also said someone's name wrong!
Steve is one of the best frontmen in rock! The guy deserves so much respect and attention. Incredible performer, still great vocally, and funny and entertaining as all get out. KIX just might be the best live band out there. They knock it out of the park every time I see them.
Hard to argue with that. He's like a mixture of Mick Jagger, AC/DC, and Redbull/Vodka. :)
I agree! When I get in tip top shape, his music helps me spend endless hours on the cardio machine!
Nathan Noah you said it dude, always be my favorite live shows.Rock on my friend
agreed !
Exactly!! Been to many concerts but no band ever compares to KIX!! The best.
KIX band is the absolute most underrated band in Rock and roll. So much talent and hard work makes for great rock and roll.
I saw kix every time they played at hammer jacks, damn they tore it down and made it a parking lot. Kix are such a great band, very underrated which is too bad because they are one of the greatest live bands
23nacho23
Saw them at the rabbits foot many yrs ago. Best thing to ever come out of Hagerstown md
Kix not being a massive band is one of the biggest crimes in the history of music
Gotta be in the top 10 most underrated front men in history
Kix are Rockers all the way. I love these guys. They Play Rock and Roll. I’m glad they still tour the country.
Great last concert!

These guys SHOULD BE in the rock and roll hall of fame........Seriously !!!!! 45 YEARS OF PURE ROCK !!
Steve whiteman is an awesome lead singer
Kix were so amazing. Show Business was one of the best albums that nobody's ever heard.
Great production on that album! Great tight sound!

Steve Whitman is a class act.

Steve dances like he is 25 year old on stage. The guy kicks ass!!
Rock'n Roll, come to Vancouver BC when you can Steve.
GREAT INTERVIEW - THANK YOU! ; )
I started Funny Money with Steve in 1996. I recorded and produced the first 3 FM cds in my living room. I never get credit for keeping KIX alive in those days. my name is not even mentioned in this interview
Well, I'll thank you. If Wtapped Around You would have been a Kix song it would have been huge
I'm sure it isn't out of disrespect bro. I mean your not gonna go down a list of people to thank every interview and this one seemed to be pretty small time anyway. I guarantee the guys appreciate what you did. I thank you also
man I was just too young to get to the Stardust for a Shooz show

I didn’t know we Marylanders have an accent.??
Oh wait we do it’s hick. That’s what he sounds like a hick.
they always hit the market everrytime
Remember seeing the shooze at the Seagull Inn
Would love to hear a follow-up record to Rock Your Face Off. This band is too good and too tight to remain silent for too long.
Shame about Donnie and the band. Dynamite was a great album, and really should have been much bigger.
I wish that somehow Donnie Purnell would come back, and at the same time, one of the current members would retire LOL!
body talk is a guilty pleasure 4 me
The Shoes then the Generators from what I remember!
Dennis Jones shooz :)
Kix 😎
Steven we do give a giant s*** we wish you never would have left it was very upsetting
Why do they interview Rock stars in the most noises locations?
There's almost no quiet places inside during interview times depending on the venue.
pisses me off they should have been billionaires and on any show or documentary about the most honest and creative rock and roll. it's so emblematic of the old "you need something to fall back on." they did everything right. better than Motley Crue Ratt or anyone of the era sorry not sorry Nikki Sixx you guys made good and I love you but KIX is musically superior to all of them. did everything right, have the songs to back it up and they still have to work regular jobs once in a while. No they were not that great.
THE SHOOZE, THE STARDUST- Waldorf, MD. 1978 and Beyond!! 1Bad Ass Band!!!

I was wondering why their 2014 album was garbage compared to their early stuff. Hadn't realized Purnell was gone.
You're statement is ridiculous. That album was a solid rock album. I watched them live this past Saturday night, and the band has never been better!
Nothin better than the Shooz at Mountain View on a Saturday night.
Steve I've had in here for this s*** since I was a child like 5 years old in the 70s and I know what rock cells and what rock doesn't sell I should have been a music producer and they are A&R man or something my father is a taxidermist I didn't go that route but I do saying I do play guitar and do you guys got screwed so hard by Atlantic

maybe you should become a music interviewer since you're so good at giving your input ;)
Was Donnie the old bald guy 🤷🏻♀️
Ha, yes
No...he was the cute one.
I don't know what the circumstances were. Seems like he was stabbed in the back. Anyways I hope he 's doing ok.
