I wish more people would add into their reactions that despite Light being technically “dead,” he won. Kira still had a cult following, and he became a God of Death himself.
Light didn’t become a god of death. The whole thing of him becoming a shinigami is not canon and it goes against what the author wanted for death note. Quoting the author here "one of the premises of the series was that once a person died, they could never come back to life" "that's why death equals nothingness" i think light becoming a shinigami kinda goes against this. You can find this in the 13th volume called “how to read.”
He did not win..The point of the ending is HE LOST At the end..He lost pathetically..He lost like any other human being After a few years of his death..The world will return to normal..He would be just known as a mass murderer in the future...

With fear, once the person dies...it all backfires...In real life too..fear is never a permanent way to rule. And as for those who admired him like a god, if the admiration was not that high..they will just go "Oh he died? so he was just a normal murderer and not a being of high power afterall" and if the admiration is high like how it was for DELETE guy, their entire worldview just collapses after the realization that they were not god.
