We got a notice from them saying they would raise our rates if we didn’t get a new roof - ours was still in great shape and was supposed to be good for another ten years, but they said too bad. We changed companies, but they still wanted a new roof. We upgraded as demanded, the company had to come out a few times because a baffle they installed was not installed properly & we kept having leaks. So…. We had to pay for a new roof that wasn’t needed, had to FIGHT the company to come out to fix what they did because they kept insisting we didn’t know what we were talking about & had to get a contractor in to prove we were right. We had to pay for the contractor but in the end, the contractor billed the roofer. Our house isn’t that old, but the insurance companies have homeowners over a barrel. Progressive LOST us as customers - for both our home and vehicles. I will get very angry if we are faced with the same problem in a few years. I believe FL should make it tough for those companies to arbitrarily decide everyone must fork out for new roofs - whether needed or not. Our last one was still up to code and was like new but we had to do as told or lose insurance. It’s a scam! J
It’s the cost of living in Florida! That sun isn’t worth the hell that cost of living and insurance companies are putting residents through. I’d sell and move before I’m forced to do anything! Sadly this is just the beginning of Florida soon to be catastrophic problems. Good Luck
And governor signed the bill that makes it nearly impossible to sue the insurance companies in FL, saying it will decrease the rate. Now insurance companies are the only winners, demanding everything new on the house when its not needed only so they can charge you but dont pay you. Really nice
We're building a new house now on the coast and it will have a metal roof along with all the hurricane building codes and be insurance Gold Fortified as this is the best we can do to keep the insurance companies happy. I feel that owners of older homes in this high risk area will find fewer and fewer companies willing to take the risk on their homes. Definitely a shame but this is happening all over and will only get worse with replacement costs for damaged houses being what they are these days, it's a tough situation for sure.
@@Lik3ToSing Honestly I don't know yet but from talking to a few people it is not much difference in noise and we will also have a rubber liner under the metal roof and also insulation board on the underside of roof in the attic so I really don't think it will be an issue. Plus the standing seam roof is beautiful and should last decades, I dont like the metal roofs with the visible screws although they are cheaper. On the standing seam, all the fasteners are hidden and really looks nice and is super strong and also stays cooler and is lighter than asphalt shingles.
That’s the way to do it. Knock on wood. You will be the best client for any carrier. Folks just don’t get it. It is ONLY going to get worse. Our state especially HOWEVER other states are getting to be just as bad with their own weather issues, non-renewals occurring.
Thank you, governor Santos. You're doing a great job for the floridians

Insurance is a scam. When you need it, it takes months or even years.

I don’t think you’re doing anything but delaying the inevitable.
Why is Progressive doing so many TV commercials if they are dropping customers?
non stop commercials, all day and all night long
That's your beautiful capitalism lol
